there was stock in clearance for $20 i think you picked up from there, its not scan error.

    • Not sure if it was clearance stock - big pile of these with $98 posted all over them near the sporting section

You stole my time reading your dumb comment.. thief.

    • your logic is flawed, prove they knew the price? Who sets the price, the seller or the buyer?

    • Shrug - if it was a mom&pop store I would have said something. The staff didn't bat an eyelid.

It's been a long time since business law studies, but I believe that the 'offer to treat' is made when you bring the item to the counter. It is there that the store can accept your 'offer' to purchase the item at the ticketed price.

Once payment (consideration) is made, the engagement becomes a contract, and you can legally take the item out of the store.

      I could be wrong though…

  • what is the amex discount please?

  • Used additional AMEX discount ($10)

    How?

  • You sure it is Amex discount and not Woolworths reward?
(Targeted offer $10 off at Big W)

Amex wouldn't show up on receipt normally. WW rewards would.

    • Quite possible - Wife did the checkout.. just assumed it was due to her using the AMEX

      • I got a 10 dollars off to use by the 13th from bigw but I had to activate it and use my card. Plan to use it today.

    Price error =/= bargain

Likely pricing error, and someone mistook it as the pool cover, which is $20
Don't think this happened to the other stores…

If it was a scanning error, then they've fixed it. Have just been to Big W Karrinyup and tried two different boxes, both scanned at $98. Saw a couple of other boxes abandoned near price checkpoints, so obviously other OzBargainers checking it out as well. Wasted trip unfortunately :( .

  • Right place, right time ;)

    • Seems so. Wonder if the OP used a self-service checkout or staffed one. There was a large barcode sticker (obviously a shipping one) on the side of one of the boxes I checked - when I scanned it, it said "pricing information not available, see service desk" so if a checkout operator scanned that (which is possible, as it's MUCH larger than the actual barcode sticker towards the bottom of the box) and they looked for the price on the system, then they may have picked the wrong Driclad product and charged them for the pool cover instead? If so - or a similar situation at the self checkout where a staff member had to look the item up if it didn't scan properly - then it would seem it's a pricing error by the staff member rather than a scanning error.

      • There appeared to be two different types of packaging for this product - as it was a gift, we grabbed the one that had the most intact box/plastic wrap.
There was only one barcode on the box (printed label says BIG W BESTWAY 140 SPORT-AQUATIC KEYCODE:8407525 12" x 30" Fast Set Pool Set/57112 carton 300 of 620)

        • Yes, that was the same as the larger label on one of the boxes I tried up which came up with the "pricing information unavailable" message at the price checkpoint, so maybe it scanned differently at the checkout. On both boxes there was also another much smaller barcode on one of the sides near the bottom of the box, without any of that additional info on it, and scanning that brings up the $98 price.

Just be careful. Inflatable pools greater than 300mm in height require both fencing and registration (in nsw, probably other states too) so this $20 could lead to a much larger fine.

    • Such a nanny state we live in…… Laws gone crazy

A temp pool to offset some of the heat, for kiddies to splash in and they want fences and gates…….

THing is they have filters so they can be left up indefinitely = drowning danger.

a death a year in portable pools - that's not crazy laws, that's just helping the stupid, dumb or just plain unlucky. Mine goes up, kids play and I don't leave the area - then we flood the back lawn and the risk is gone!

  • None in Browns Plains QLD or surrounding area.

  • Anyone bought more than 1 that wants to sell it to me? Would pay for postage plus a little extra for your effort. PM me.

  • scanned full price in pakenham VIC

  • Tried in Mt. Ommaney showing $98. I think they updated the system.
