Broden much? Buying 17 of one item

    • +2

      That's the first receipt :)
      But there was heaps left

      • I'm curious to what you would need so many of them for?

"There was heaps left" is a weird motivation to have.

    • what do you do with so many of them? christmas gift?

      • Soon eBay will be flooded with colorful 32GB 'USB 3.0' sticks.

Most eBay/Gumtree buyers won't be able to tell they received a cheap usb 2 stick from Dick.

  • I was at DJs chadstone last night and I saw the tower thing for usbs but I'm pretty sure all the cheap ones were gone.

    • +1

The cheap ones are cleared by doggy ebay/gumtree sellers. They are now busy putting a 'USB 3.0' label on individual sticks. We will soon see the listings.

      • Might get bashed for this but what's the difference between 2.0 and 3.0?

        • +9

          1

          @covert:
          1.0?

        • @tesse112:

          1==1.0

        • @covert:

          1 ≈ 1.0

        • +1

          @covert:

          1 != 1.0

1 is a whole number whereas 1.0 signifies an approximation, so the real value can be 0.99999 or 1.00001

          :)

On these cheap things, probably stuff all.

I'll be nice and give you a proper answer

When comparing 2.0 and 3.0 there are a few major differences. First the transfer rates: USB 2.0 offers transfer rates of 480 Mbps and USB 3.0 offers transfer rates of 4.8 Gbps - that's 10 times faster. Note that the transfer speeds also depend on the device in use in addition to the bus type and USB ports and cables.

          http://www.usr.com/en/education/usb-30-peripherals/

If your PC or Laptop doesn't have a USB 3 port it makes no difference to you!

        • +11

Serious answer coz im a nice guy:
Theyre just faster, IF you plug them into a usb 3.0 port.
If you have a laptop with the blue USB ports they are probably USB3.0, then you can take advantage of the faster speeds of a USB3.0 device.

For example my cheap USB 2.0 thumbdrives usually transfer files at 2-10 MB/s
my cheap usb 3.0 thumbdrives transfer at 10-20 MB/s
my expensive usb 3.0 thumbdrive is around 50 MB/s
and a standard usb 3.0 portable hard drive will be around 100MB/s

makes a big difference when transferring movies and large files ;)

edit: firey beat me to it. That's what I get for being nice.

@Riczter: The USB ports on my M14X are 3.0 and they are NOT blue.

        • @andydew: PLOT TWIST!

        • @didit7: Which is why 2+2 can equal 5.

        • @attfiecz2: also the USB drive on the computer supports a higher voltage usb 2 is 500ma USB 3 runs at 1amp

        • @covert: Difference between 2 and 3 is 1 LMAO HITLERIOUS

  • Now to fill them all up - that's half a Terabyte you've got there… Assuming these are awesome and you get a whole 3Mbps write speeds, that'll only take about 3 weeks straight. Good luck with that.

  • Anyone know if this price is available at actual dick smith stores?

  • wow nice

  • +1

At Kotara DJs, $3 for 8gb, 3x8gb for $8. Emtec 32gb USB 3.0 for $10. Even though a good deal, not as good as OP Chadstone.

    • no luck showing the receipt and pricematching?

      • +1

        Tried at Hornsby. $10

they would not price match..these markdowns are apparently at managers discretion at the store. :/

        • Between the recent DS/DJ and JB deals and difference in prices between stores, I'm officially finished Xmas shopping… Excluding online… And excluding when next ridiculous bargain comes up. Gotta stop refreshing ozbargain like smoko breaks, cutting back to twice a day lol.

  • anyone know if this is instore DSE?

    • called up my local DSE store, they are doing the 3 pack of 8gb for $10

  • DJ's Melb City has 3 packs of 8gb sticks for $3. Few left.

    • Is it the same packaging as the Op's ones. Went to my local and they only have them in new packaging which is not on sale

      • No was not DSE branded but the EMTEC brand. Sure they are slow but for $1/disk its great.

  • Can these be bought online??

  • +2

Just bought 2 x 16GB SanDisk "Cruzer Switch" flash drives from DJ's Perth City for $2 each :)

    • Just got a whole bunch of the $3 for 3x8gb ones in Perth too, still about 20 packs left

  • Stock still left at Highpoint VIC. They even had 2TB Seagate Desktop USB 3.0 drives for $25 unfortunately all sold out…

    • Wtf… wow

  • Sydney DJ at Market St. had before lunch today 8GB EMTEC 3 packs for $3 and Dick Smith 32GB for $10 and 64GB for $20.

  • I went in local Dicksmith store other it Total mess A Total mess not a thing priced. I ask for stock gun to check prices they said no. Guy got the shit with ask him scan stuff.

  • I got told that there was 2 people went into David Jones Garden City QLD yesterday, 1 bought 40 of the flashdrive and other bought the rest for charity. So there none for me while i was there :(

  • Merged from Emtec 3x 8GB USB for $3, Power Bank for $15 @ David Jones

8GB USB sticks at Dick Smith inside David Jones

    1 x 8GB = $1
    3 x 8GB = $3

Also got a power bank for $15

No more inside David Jones Elizabeth St (Sydney)
Heaps left in DJ Bondi Junction

    • They were selling these individually for $2 at DSE Bankstown two weeks ago. They had a lolly jar full of them in front of the counter

    • Yeah, this has been going on for about a week.

Same as this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/224797 but its been marked expired.

    • Much better and cheaper options for power banks out there

    • i went into dj's adelaide central today and bought 3 3-packs. about 75 left at that stage and about the same of the singles. While xmas shopping i thought i should get some more and slip them in with all the gifts considering they're so cheap so i went back in about 4pm, in the mean time a guy had bought every single one they had. Asshole.

One of the staff members found me a couple that were floating around in other parts of the section and we had a good chat about the sales.

Mad props to the DJ's Adelaide central. They were all top blokes.
