Slightly cheaper than Jim's & 1st Choice… is it just me or have champagne prices plummeted in recent years?

      • -1

It's said due to EU weak economy

        • -1

It's also because places like Dan Murphy's and others buy thousands of pallets of it and have it sitting in warehouses for years. The stuff on shelves is usually not current vintage stock sadly. It can be up to four years old. You get what you pay for sadly

          @Danswineden:
Dan Murpheys negotiate the best prices because they buy huge volume and move it quickly, they'll also at times make low to no profit on some items to get customers in the door (loss leaders).
What you're saying doesn't explain why they always have the latest packaging and vintages. Not to mention the logistics of holding that amount of stock for years at a time would cost a fortune meaning that they would be more expensive.

No idea why you're making this up, oh wait it's because you're trying to insult the competition.

        • @Danswineden: in the wine world, the "latest model" isn't necessarily a good thing. lol

    • Normal price is about $56(?(I will double check this for you tomorrow if you like)). Great deal for delivery only!

used to be about $80 only a few years ago. it dropped in line with the stronger AUD, but hasn't gone back up now that the AUD has dropped again, which is really surprising. i guess the wholesaler imported a shitload of it while the currency was good, i didn't think we'd see it under $50 again for a good few years.

With Moet I'd highly recommend if you can justify the additional $23.15 to give the Grand Vintage 06 a go. ($68 with a dans free membership)
Great drop and well worth the extra in my opinion.

I'm going to stick with my J.P Chenet ICE and Sieur d'Arques Grande Cuvée 1531 de Aimery. Nice French sparklings on a budget :)

    • Thanks for the heads up for the Sieur D'Arques, that looks like a winner at that price and given the review scores!

      Any other sparkling bargains?

Cave de Lugny Cremant Blanc de Blancs NV 750mL

This is excellent value. I know quite a few sparkling drinkers that I have given this too and they really liked it, and after I told them the price they were shocked at the value.

It is actually cheaper now than when I stocked up 3 months ago. Go grab a bottle and try it with an open mind and be damned if you don't think it is incredible value ;)

I agree with the Sieur D'Arques recommendation and for another reasonably priced French sparkling, I highly recommend Saint-Hilaire Blanquette de Limoux Brut - readily available at Dan's as well.

Yes! The Hilaire is also beautiful!

    • I tried the Chenet ICE at work today (again) and the citrusy, refreshing taste made me buy a bottle. Ask a team member if you can try some, they might say yes.

  • Good price for the black and yellow Scotty :)

Chandon Brut is at $17.50 per bottle too

Ordinarily I would try and stock up from Winemarket - but there have been no decent vouchers lately.

  • Thanks OP got 2

Read recently that Australia is in the top 10 for champagne sales - a bit surprising given that there are less than 24m people here

A sign of our relative national prosperity
