  • Coles lightin it up this week!

  • Anyone else think the white bits (ie, milk bottles, "cream" in strawberries and cream) in these Coles jelly lollies tastes weird?

    • That's coz they're 'natural'. I don't know what the white bits have been flavoured from, but I like it!

      • +1

Not really.. The difference between natural and most non-natural flavours is the source of the chemicals used. Natural flavours use chemicals extracted from plants/animals, Nature Identical Flavours (the vast majority of non-natural flavours, very few people use artificial flavours now) use exactly the same chemicals as in Natural Flavours, but they're manufactured in an industrial process rather than extracted from a plant.
I used to work for a Flavour manufacturer… and currently work for a confectionery manufacturer (including jellies).

The real reason for the "funny" taste would be the flavour they've used.. I haven't had any aerated Coles jellies yet (but will try some with this sale) so I can't comment further on why there might be a "funny" taste.

EDIT, just noticed that these are "No Artificial Colours or Flavours", I'm not even sure that this statement is legal to make in Asutralia! Pretty much everything uses Nature Identical (ie not artificial) flavour these days, so this isn't much of a statement!

  • Is this at all Coles? When's the expiry date? How long are they on special for?

    • All Coles, mine expire in September or later

  • Are these like Haribo? I love Haribo (German candy IIRC).

    • You can get Haribo readily in Aldi

      • Yeah I realise that but I was wondering if these were like haribo because they seemed cheaper :)

  • Coles party mix is quite tasty - great deal

    • i agree for $1 you can't got wrong!

    • The Party mix isn't included in this though.

There's a few things that aren't, like this icecream cones but most of the good stuff is :)

      • I have a docket that clearly shows the Coles Party Mix 450g packs - 2 for $2, save $5.98. I have seen this same deal at all Coles I've visited.

      • McLarenMercedes is right, there are other stuff that are 2 for $2 and I believe I did see the party mix for that price. Maybe you were just unlucky at yours and they had all been snapped up.

I can see why they are selling off this stuff though, I wouldn't pay $1.89, but 50c is ok. They do taste a bit different but fine, and I think it's because they are formulated to German tastes.

  • Grabbed 4, thanks for the heads up.

I wasn't sure which varieties were covered by the offer so I only picked the ones with the 4 for $2 tag. I had about 6 or 7 choices though.

  • Hmmm.. dropped by coles here in brisbane.
Didn't see any specials for the lollies.

Were they tagged for specials?? Or is this a phantom offer that only appears at check-out?

    • yep tagged, maybe the store staff didn't get around to putting the tickets up, but the deal is definitely Australia-wide. Unless of course they're already sold out……..

Update: Some stores have removed all tickets at it was extremely confusing for staff and customers as only selected varieties are on special. If you pick up the correct ones, they will still scan at 4 for $2.
