First post people - wanted to give back to the many who have contributed to this awesome sharing site.

For people for are looking for the first 2TB HDD to drop below AUD$200…the recently released Samsung 2TB EcoGreen drives are perfect for NAS, large secondary HDD, or for media players/tanks. Been waiting ages for 1.5TB drives to drop, but took the plunge and went with the extra 500GB's for not a big difference in $/GB.

Personally bought ~6 samsung hdd's of various types and they are rock solid.

  • Fantastic, this beats the best price online by about $11. I was about to buy 4 anyway (for a NAS) so this is great timing!

I have the Samsung 1TB in my home PC at the moment, and it's very quiet, low power, and hasn't skipped a beat. Really great drives. These F3EG (F3 Eco-Green) drives have literally only been in Australia for a week.

    Highly recommended.

Funny, it used to be that the highest capacity drives gives the worse value per gb…seems like now all 1TB/1.5TB/2TB drives are approaching parity (0.95c/0.92c/0.98c p/gb - $95 Samsung 1 TB from MSY, $139 1.5TB Seagate/WD's from MSY, and this $197 2TB drive)

    • I guess you meant:
      (0.095c/0.092c/0.098c p/GB - $95 Samsung 1 TB from MSY, $139 1.5TB Seagate/WD’s from MSY, and this $197 2TB drive)

      • Very cheap per GB but it still can't beat buying a spindle of 100 Imation 4.7GB DVD-R for $3.65.
        0.00776c per GB.

        • A spindle of 100 disks for $3.65? Post that deal up!

  • I'm also using a Samsung drive and it's fairly quiet (though I wish it was quieter).

    • Give it a few weeks; it will become silent :P (Joking)

  • This is a 5400rpm drive, just so you all know (not that that's a bad thing):

    • In 2TB, Samsung only do Eco 5400RPM drives ATM (in OZ anyway)

Cheapest 7200RPM drive comes from Hitachi, with Seagate ans Western Digital close behind.

Most PC builders rave about the 1TB Spinpoint F3 7200RPM drive:
      http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/productmodel.do?g…
Its read/write is close to most SSD's.
Only feature it lacks is response times.

      I'll wait till the 2GB F3's are 7200RPM

Megaware is the store I use most for buying my computer gear. They are located in Alexandria in Sydney for anyone wanting to pickup. Usually have competitive pricing and friendly service from what I've experienced - can't comment on postage orders though…

  • Another recommendation from me regarding Megaware. They are very good and reliable. When they said the product ready for pick up, it is ready to be picked up.
You can order the product online as well, no more queue in MSY and to be told that the product is not available…

  • ++ to the 1TB Spinpoint F3 7200RPM I picked one up a week ago my windows 7 logon times till the system was responsive went from several minutes on (an old 80Gb maxtor) to 4 seconds.. I..Kid..you..not. And they are only a few more dollars than most 1Tb drives. Buy 2 and RAID them together..cheaper than this offer.
