  • How does this plan compared with other unlimited plans. Anyone knows a good site for isp nbn comparison ?

    • I am very happy with TPG. Tried Optus some time last year and the speed in peak hours is pathetic

Don't bother. You'll just get horrid congestion during times you want to use the internet, and get great speeds at 3am.

    • Yep, agree. I moved house and have to sign up cable as ADSL is too far from the exchange, during peak time, the speed is super slow. Off peak is great 30/1.6. Don't forget to setup MTU=1487. I have been using TPG ADSL2+ for years, decent constant speed.

    • I'm on cable and was getting 1.04 mbps at 8pm but at 2 am I was on 77.98mbps lol so crap

    • Same here, I've got the similar unlimited calls phone/mobile and internet (minus tv). It's SUPER slow peak, MAX speed I have ever seen off peak is 3MB/s.

peak is so slow I can not watch youtube in SD. I have to use a downloader to download and watch offline.

We also get frequent drop outs on the phone. I think it's because the phone is now VOIP instead of the 'standard' phone connection. VOIP from what I know make internet calls so if internet is slow or unavailable it drops out. Is this correct?

And if there's a blackout, no phone. I've had to purchase a UPS to fix this problem.

I wish I had known about the VOIP thing, I prefer to have a traditional phone line.

I dont know how other providers are, but from my experience only thing i can tell you when it comes to optus and my "big" home phpne bundle is that its catastrophical. Every single day after 3pm till 1am speed drops to 3~5mbps and my cable Internet plan is 30mbps. Technicians came few times, only one did some work but it didn't help much. So i have a faulty service and they want me to pay $90 for that, im sorry that i haven't recorded my conversations with optus as its seriously funny. Optus wants me to understand that there is an issu, to tolerate the conjunction and understand its there, pay my full bill on time and just let it roll like that, oh and the promises, never ending promises of equipment upgrade in my neighborhood that will take place in a very near but far away future…Ummmm no.

    • Great info. Thanks. Now back to my research for any Fetch TV isp to replace foxtel.

Optus internet is beyond a joke, peak times see your speeds crawl to a stand still most days.

There are exceptions depending on where you live, I'd recommend browsing through the forums over at whirlpool to check first: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/15

    • Yes. That broadband choice/isp choice site is gone and looks like needing to research a dozen isp one by one.

      • There really is no option. You have Telstra, and then you can gamble on TPG/iinet. That's about it.

  • I got lied to and subsequently forced them to give me the 100Mbps speed back at no extra charge.
So I pay $90 month for unlimited internet (I could have unlimited calls, but who has a landline for home nowadays when you can get unlimited calls on your mobile)

  • its the same price forcable not just adsl.
is their cable ad bad as adsl.
i had problems in the past with adsl and crap copper lines etc.
im guessing that being unlimited it attracts the pirates and video streamers which clogs up an underesourced network.
i remember having unlimited tpg adsl a while back and it was impossible for call of duty due to dropouts.

    • I'm on cable and yes, for me it's quite bad, just luck of the draw as to how slow it will be when I get home from work.

    • I have Optus Cable & it's fine. I switched from Telstra cable 12mths ago & Optus was actually a tad quicker (did sid-eby-side speed tests over 3 days). It depends on your suburb. I taken Whirlpool with a grain of salt (unless you live in the same suburb as the poster) as you only hear from people complaining.

But in school holidays it will slow down.

You don't get entertainment bundle on big bundle. You get the basic channels only.

  • its cheap - u get what u pay for - maybe less

  • Hi

Can anyone tell me is it worth going for a DSL connection?
I checked online and it says my address can only get DSL? What does this mean? Does it have better speed?
At the moment i have telstra landline and dodo internet with good speed

  • Op should add 24 months contract.

  • Note Optus has copied Telstra in charging 35c/13xx call, so it's not really unlimited phone calls.
Given how many companies & Govt agencies only advertise 13xx numbers expect another $5-10/mth on your bill.

  • Agree with a lot of the other comments here, get about 10mbps in the day time, night time/peak time is terrible at 1.5mbps .This only started happening when optus started offering netflix. Speeds used to be consistent day and night but for the last 6-7 months its been terrible at night 7 days a week.
