Stack with this deal and save another $25 bringing the price down to $298 after cashback.

    • also AMEX $50 with $300 back! it should still be runnning at HN

      • I have Amex, how to get that?

        • Registeration for this offer is completed. A bit late

got the 700D TLK from DSE, probably better than this one

    • What price?

      • $299 after $100 cashback - the DSE clearance price

        • If you don't want your 700d PM me. lol

  • So cheaper than Dick? Does that make it $248 with Amex

    • Without Clearance price of Dick, yet it is cheaper.
I dont think Amex offer is still going on. Check before you buy. If Amex is on, I think $248 is good deal

  • Looks like Amex not going any more. Still not bad though.

    • I don't think you can register for it any more, but it is still valid. It expires on 21/12/2015.

"Register by saving the offer to Card and spend $300 or more, in one or more transactions, online or in-store at Harvey Norman by 21/12/15 to receive one $50 credit. Limited to the first 5,000 Cards to register. Exclusions apply"

    Why not 100d?

  • What is the consensus on the performance of this for a beginner? Not an avid photographer by any stretch so a beginners SLR is all I am looking for.

Mixed views on the net and some camera sites have allegiances to one brand over another so thought I would ask the masses on one of the only places you can trust for an honest answer.

I have been using Nikon D3000 (Beginner camera) for 5 years now.I think Canon and Nikon both are well known and good brands. One of my freind use Canon and he likes it more than Nikon just because He never used Nikon. I only want to buy Nikon because I never used Canon. It is really up to you.
I believe the key factor in photography is skills and different kind of lenses (bloody expensive lenses):)

      • Thanks. I don't suspect I would use half the features of a camera that provides more. I am very much a point and shoot person (as is the wife) but we want something that provides a good quality image.

From what I have seen this would facilitate that.

Get a good P&S if you can, sounds better for you.

As far as Canon or Nikon go try them both out and see what feels better, I got canon cos I love the lenses and at the time they had the better camera for my needs

  • $299 12 months ago,, emmmm

  • I'm planning a trip to Antarctica. Planning on taking a P&S but also thinking on getting a DSLR as well. That said know sweet FA about them. I've read it's ideal to take a standard, zoom and wide angle lens. (16-35,25-104,70-200).

Anyone out there know if a DSLR noob can learn this stuff pretty quick (I'm tech savvy if that helps), and if this specific camera has those lens options or near enough.

    Cheers.

lol i'd figure if you can afford to go to Antarctica, you can afford better than a 1200d kit. If you're after just some snapshots, it'll probably do (really take in all cold/wet weather gear precautions), but a decent weather sealed combo would have a higher chance of surviving in that kind of climate. Top of the line gear does still seize up as well if the weather is bad enough, but should fare better than entry level stuff.

      • Been researching all night. Pretty much all the cruise lines have a section which is "so you're going to Antarctica, here's what camera(s) to bring". As for wet weather, they mostly seem to recommend ziplock bags oddly enough!

Regardless, I think I've settled on a camera. I'm looking at the Canon 700D with the 18-55 and 55-250 lens kit along with polarizing lenses for both. From what I've been reading the polarizing lenses really help cut down on the reflection off the ice / water and help make those blues really pop.

As for the affording to go, I've got terminal cancer and I had my life insurance pay out so this is my bucket list holiday for myself and my mother.

Good on you azshade, I hope that you have a great trip. I'm sure that it will be a great experience. All the best with the battle ahead of you

        • AND…. changed my mind!

So I've bought a camera. Ended up getting a Pentax K-50, which is weather sealed and cold rated (actually about on par to the conditions we're expecting so, that's good).

I got two weather sealed lenses with it too. An 18-55 kit lens and a 55-300 so that ticked my zoom range which is what they were recommending.

And all this can be yours for ~$700US delivered from B&H Photo Video. Which even with the GST Tourist rebate it was still cheaper to buy it from the USA.
