  • Good deal if you want to buy in Australia and get the local warranty etc. For those who wish to order from overseas you can get this from Singapore for around $700 incl. postage.

Also, this is a great unit :)

  • So how is this a good deal if you can get this for $420 cheaper posted? 'Bargains' like this is turning the site into advertisement central.

    • +2

I would argue that having a local warranty is valued by a lot of people.

      • No international warranty from Denon? I would argue that a lot of people would take $420 savings, especially as you can almost buy a replacement unit for the money saved.

        • +1

If someone wanted it in the next day or so, with an Australian warranty - then it is a good deal, even a bargain according to Australian prices. AFAIK Denon do not have an international warranty (that covers AVRs anyway).

If I were to buy it I would buy it from Singapore for around $700. But many people don't wish to do that.. and this deal would be for them.

        • +1

Gray imports rarely have local warranties, which means if something is to break on the unit you have to deal completely with the originating countries warranty services - language barriers and all.

For some people, the extra spent is worth it, especially for an item that should last 3 years easily.

    • +2

      My thoughts exactly.
This site is becoming a feeding ground for advertisements as opposed to TRUE bargains.
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22306.
Not a bargain by any means.
$100+$10 postage for an item that I can get the 1.5TB version at my local store for $150.
Supposed to be OZ BARGAINS. It's not called "Slightly cheaper than the already rip off prices".
      End rage.

      • +3

I totally agree with you about this site having a lot of items which are not TRUE bargains.

However, I do think it's wrong to compare a grey import from Singapore to a local product.

If this product was available for $999 locally, well obviously $1120 wouldn't be a bargain.

One of the cheapest I have seen in Australia is $1298 here: http://www.eeonline.com.au/p/667571/denon-avr-1910-home-thea…

        • Yeah I wasn't actually insinuating that this item isn't a bargain.
It isn't in my opinion just because of the fact you can get a 5.1 for $80.
But still, I was more replying to fungi79.
Just bothers me coming to this site to read up about the latest bargains and 80% of them are still overpriced.. Only slightly cheaper.
I still remember one for Nike shoes for $150 brought down from $175.
          Advertising at its full extent.

          • @[Deactivated]: I share your views, and you can see my comments in other threads where I say 'the advertisement may as well be, ‘Come in and shop at prices similar to those of our competitors.. maybe even a few dollars more expensive.’ @ http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22102

I am sick of deals that are not bargains. At least we are able to bring some of them down to earth ;)

If there is a reputable store in Australia that sells it for less than $1120 (and not from imported stock) by all means let's look at it and then we can review if this is an Australian bargain :)

      • Agree with you completely.
        and this is dealers fault.
but we as a community are responsible for voting neg on them.
bargains are bargains, not slightly cheaper.

      • get your facts right, 500gb is 2.5inch while your 1.5tb is 3.5 inch. I'd like to see a 1.5tb 2.5inch for 150, tell me where and i will be there in a heartbeat.

    • +1

Voting negative - yet no links to where it's cheaper? Doesn't seem fair or in the spirit…

      • -1

        Glen, I just don't consider a 15% discount a bargain.
If we go this path, we might as well call the site www.slightlycheaper.com.au

        • $178 (+ you save more as eeonline charges for shipping) isn't enough for you?

It will be over $200 saving once you include shipping.

You should retract your vote unless you provide us with proof of Australian stock being sold at THIS level or cheaper.

          • @bohn: no, it's not good enough for me.
there are comparable units for similar price.
I paid a Pioneer VSX-1018 $900 at JB. just by negotiating.

I can see various issues here.

            1) the fact that if we let dealers come here and get free advertising on not such great deals, we'll be full of these in no time.

            2) Personally, I think electronics are extremely overpriced in Australia, compared to other countries (USA)
This is the reason why we get these prices in Australia. people will happily pony up and pay these overprices, because it's cheaper than the other overpriced store.

            3) my personal opinion is ozbargain should be a haven from these semi deals and post only useful "real" bargains.

            • +2

@elcheapoinoz: You can't say because you bought a Pioneer for $900 that it makes a Denon priced at $1120 a bad deal.

Electronics are overpriced in this country - but it doesn't mean that this isn't cheaper than other places in Australia (and has a local warranty!).

You keep ignoring my request to provide links to deals to prove that this is not a bargain. Where are they?

              Mod Edit: Removed personal attack.

              • @bohn: keep the tone down mate. and don't boss me around.
i dont see this being a good deal, and I'm in my right to do so.

                • +1

@elcheapoinoz: So even though it saves over $200 from the nearest other shop.. it isn't a good deal.. because.. you bought a Pioneer for $900 ;)

Maybe a real objection will be raised shortly ;)

  • +2

you can pick up the pretty-much-equivalent denon 890 from harvey norman for under $1000 (although you have to get the right salesperson, but it's do-able).

the 1910 is pretty much identical (lacks about 3 features that 99% of the population wouldn't use) - the model designation is so high-end av stores can poo-poo the harvey norman version and tout that they're so much better and why would you ever spend less than $10,000 on a clock radio…

  • Maybe Bohn and I have a different definition of what a bargain is. I just can't get excited about a 15% discount. You can probably get the same price from JIBI, HN and the like if you play them off each other and you don't have the hassles of dealing with an online retailer.

Perhaps there should be a new ozbargain rule, you're only allowed to post if your goods are more than 25% cheaper than the closest price :)

    • +1

15% on an item of this value is a good saving indeed.

Don't think the eeonline includes shipping.. so you'd save even more.

  • I completely disagree. This kind of discount is expected if you do your homework and barter a bit. A friend of mine got 400 off a 2700 TV not long ago and he's the most thinned skined person I know. I regularly get 15% off by shopping around.

So 15% off a piece of HIFI equipment is a BIG yawn.

    • Other people sell it for $1399.

      $1399 - http://www.carltonaudiovisual.com.au/?q=node/view/1167
      $1399 - http://www.usaudiovisual.com.au/Denon1910.htm

There is no '25%' rule yet - and a saving of over $200 from a cheaper shop (once you take into account shipping) is a good discount nonetheless. Provide us with some links to better deals pls. No need to mention harddisks or big screen TVs. Show us this product elsewhere.

      • +1

$1399 is the rrp for this - as other people have said, this price is probably achieveable in a bricks and mortar store. you wouldn't buy from carlton av without bargaining.

but at least this gives people an indicative price of what they should be able to get, at a minimum. so if you pay more than this, you're a silly monkey!

    • Ah yes. I forgot, advertisements would never advertise bargains, now would they? ;)

  • +2

Decent deal. I suspect half the people voting negative are voting purely on price alone, and have not even researched this particular product.

    • Hi atlas.
The reason I've voted negative, It's because the RRP of this unit is $1399
I dont think a difference of $279 to the RRP (specially in a big price item like this) is bargain enough to be posted here.
Also, there are other similar receivers for less or same price.
yes, it is cheaper than the rest, a bargain? I personally dont think so.
      but I respect everyone's opinion.

      • agreed, I purchased the 590 (little brother of this one) for $300 less than it's RRP which is already much lower than this one.

This price is at best a guide on what you should be able to barter down to everywhere.

  • +1

I come on here and want to see BARGAINS, not ADVERTISING.

+1 to the comment above "there are other similar receivers for same or less"
We want, "I gotta have it now at that price" deals, not "yeah thats a good price"

Take your advertising somewhere else or advertise it at a MUCH better price.

    Neg vote from me.

    • +1

      LOL.

Different receivers produce different sound with the same speakers. Some people 'really' want a Denon receiver for their setup. They don't always want a cheaper Pioneer.

What you are saying is quite ridiculous, like the other poster, that just because there are receivers cheaper than this one - that this one is a rip off. Show me cheaper Denon 1910's?

      • i don't think anyone is saying this is a rip-off - it's just not a bargain.

i think the point is that if we're happy with submissions like this, then i may as well post all the deals you can see here:

        http://www.rio.com.au/range.aspx?id=7&cat=3

eg the yamaha v3900 for $1000 off the rrp (actually, that is a bargain!).

        • +1

If OzBargain want to bring in a rule that says '25%' is the min. for a bargain then I would vote this down.

          If.

      • +1

Its not a rip off, its a "good" price, not a bargain.

I do know the difference between brands can be considerable, and I take nothing
away from this very well rated unit.

It is a fair point to say that if you were in the market for this unit, then you would be hard pressed to find a better price, but you can get close.

Ozbargain, and us making an active forum discussion like this is exactly what these reps want.

Ads like this would not rate in the google pages unless they pay for advertising, but with this advertising, they get page 1 google results. Makes perfect business sense, but also makes a useless "bargain" site if its all "good prices"

  • this is just bad advertising

    give us real bargains

  • Actually.
    I just double checked
    The pioneer 1018 I bought was $720 not $900.
PS: yes the denon is a better unit, is it $400 better, not sure.
This is only my example, I'm not trying to justify my purchase, just posting it to add another similar unit for comparison.

  • more info on the product.
sorry, can't help coming back to this page :-/
    http://www.cnet.com.au/denon-avr-1910-339298754.htm?omnRef=h…

Bad: Relatively expensive • Competing AV receivers sound better • No graphical user interface • Annoying back-panel design • Lousy remote

  • Makes perfect business sense:

It appears on page 1 for FREE !!! YAY YAY for the business

    http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Denon+AVR-1910+best+price+australia

    • Lol that link is cool.

      Haven't seen that before.

  • I have often critcised posters on OzBargain for putting 'bargains' that are available at the same price elsewhere.

There is a lot of talk around saying that saving over $200 on this item is not a big enough discount to classify it a bargain (or perhaps that 25% should be the min.)

I would welcome the admin to set out what constitutes a bargain. This would save a lot of irritating threads and useless discussions (and to avoid advertisers getting Page 1 google results when not deserved etc.)

    • I would welcome the admin to set out what constitutes a bargain.

You'll see most bargains posted don't have the problem of heated discussion. OzBargain is a site where users share and contribute, and having admins setting out a definite guide would be against the site's initial intend.

I'll say just take a step back when the flame war begins.

  • There is an existing discussion here in the forum: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/20970#comment-158209 if you don't want to contribute to this advertiser's google rating.

  • I'm not going to comment whether this is a bargain or not.

But I'm voting negative purely because all 3 of these posts should have been combined into 1 - and each of the sale items listed in that post.
