Don't know when it ends, probably soon. It was a part of a black Friday deal from last Friday.

I just purchased one in LA, it works fine.

Might want to read the comments here before purchasing:

Consider both ChicagoVPS and LowEndBox are both owned by ColoCrossing and they are still getting bad reviews. This is how bad these guys are.

    4GB RAM, that's generous!

I assume it's shared and not dedicated? I foresee the server hitting the swap file a lot when inevitably oversold…

ChicagoVPS have a horrid reputation. If you're looking for a VPS for some quick dev work you're better off just starting a per hour billing VPS like Vultr in Sydney.

    • The only reason that ChicagoVPS has a horrid reputation is that they are horrid. Just regular horrid, not "home server over flaky ADSL" horrid. They are keeping my powerful toy server online 23.9/7 for just $20/year so I am not complaining. It usually only breaks when I foolishly try to use their broken maintenance utilities. So hey, they do have at least one happy customer :D :D :D.

Went with ChicagoVPS a few months ago just to give it a try. Literally an experiment to see if they were as bad as everyone said.

    They were.

    End of my review.

Review was good. 10/10. Would read again.

  • So you can run your own VPN server? I wonder what the speed would be like?

    • +1

Pretty poor and speeds fluctuate like a backside after KFC.
Would at least recommend running a VPN over VPS from the west cost of America for okay-ish speeds.

  • ChicagoVPS, came for the price, regrettably stayed for the price, lost all my data for the price.

  • Stay clear, I have had 43% uptime in the last year!

I created an account to say this: stay away from ChicagoVPS. Like the others have already commented, they are terrible.

Also, stay away from sister companies BlueVM and HudsonValleyHost. Bad service, bad support, a complete waste of time the lot of them.

  • any recommendation for good VPS provider?

    • I'm gathering you want a balance in price and quality?

      https://www.binarylane.com.au/pricing
      or
      https://www.ramnode.com/vps.php
      or
      https://www.vultr.com/

Yes, I've been a naughty whore with VPSs and have used these three (and many others). Used them good. Everyone out there has their ups and downs, but the above three are about as good as you can get for the price.

Or you can go a step up and look a dedicated servers. Some can be cheaper than you think. We use online.net (located in France) for our worksites and they've been great. Full quad core server, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD, 1Gbit speeds, unlimited bandwidth for 30 euro. We added a CDN for our video streaming to offset the distance. And you can setup multiple VPSs on em which will still be faster than other VPSs you'd rent.
