    • Checked, or asked? Most of the clearance items aren't actually advertised in store.

      • +1

I asked, 2x rep said prices as marked (Teevee and Samsung phone)

        • +5

There's your problem - they'll tell you one thing but the item will scan at the lower price. Even if it doesn't, you can just say you changed your mind.

      • You sure seem interested in the negs TA

  • +1

Nothing left for ps4, including gaming accessories like dual shock controller is still normal price. hope 1tb version will get a discount in the next few days.

  • DSE Maddington, supposedly people lined up first thing 9am and grabbed all the apple stuff. Heaps of GoPro mounts left, few PS4/PS3/ONE/PC games left, quite a few printers, laptops as well. Didn't ask about TVs as not interested. I've got a photo of the laptop and printer clearance tags which ill try uploading in a bit.

  • LG 32LN5400 32
    40 Bucks

  • Has anyone tried stores in Canberra? I went into the Belconnen store and was told there was no sale and they havent been told. Kind of dodgy i think

    • Went to Civic at lunch. Checked an ipad air 32GB, but was $556.

All the DSLR's apparently sold yesterday. Only a D3200 with parts missing left.

There were still some XBOX 360, XBOX One and playstation games on sale.

      Didn't look at the TV's

Asked if any of the phones were on sale and was told none were.

    • +2

Went to Woden at lunch. Full of guys on their phones looking at the postimg.com links in the main post, checking model numbers as prices were not marked.

Very small selection of TVs. Had JVC and DSE brands available, all decent brands were sold. Didn't check anything else but the staff seemed keen to help and give out prices when asked.

      • haha yeah I saw so many ozbargainers with their phone out looking shifty.

    • Checked Civic store. Same response as timoth.
Staff said they might add few things in afternoon may be laptops

    • Thanks ppls. Belconnen is holding out for sure. Quite annoying

  • I'm confused so should all TV's they have in stock be on special or only the ex display ones and others listed?

    • +3

it looked like just display ones and 'manager & catalogue specials'….no discount on top

    • +1

This seems to be what's making people mad. I spoke to a store manager who was enthusiastic about the sale.

The ex display models are on sale at the stupid cheap prices plus anymore they want to sell AT THE STORES DISCRETION. They are only told about what is going to be on sale and at what prices THAT MORNING. So everyone getting mad that they don't know prices/stock is an idiot because they probably don't at 9am! Just be polite and ask about them.

      • +3

what happens if we show them that list? I'm suspecting some of the stores are keeping stock for themselves and mates

        • I can assure you that stock would be gone within an hour of the store opening. Those lists you are looking at are for DISPLAY MODELS with VERY LIMITED STOCK.

    • +1

Ex Displays and clearance have massive reductions, the rest have minor reductions.

      • Must admit this has been a great marketing ploy to get people into their stories instead of going to JB Hifi first.

I guess this is a good deal for people that doesn't mind stuff that's been abused by random people playing during their lunch breaks.

  • +1

thanks op managed to pick up 2 x jvc 40" tv's for $149 each. pic quality looked ok. was looking for 2 x 40" for the new house. rojomojo i think we may have been in the same store this morn. i was after a smaller 32 or 21.5 inch for the garage but they didnt have any.

    • Yep, i wanted the 40" you got :)
Oh well never mind, at least you persisted and got the deal, well done.
USB movie playback support is very good at least, better than my WDTV, far more format support.

      • Sorry mate Was going through everything, would have liked another tv but in the end i think the sales guy was getting a bit frustrated. Good of him to print the price list though.

        • Yes, shame they didn't have some Samsungs, Sonys or even LG on sale :(

  • +2

Lady brodened 4 Harmony Ultimates. Found it quite funny.

  • Anyone manage to get any bargains on small kitchen appliances?

  • Top Ryde, Rhodes… No good deal.
Only manager specials nd prices as marked.

  • +1

Popped into DS Bourke St, and the Emporium one. Nothing left. I asked one of the staff in Emporium about the DSLR Camera's. He said they were all gone yesterday. Camera's that were retailing for $900 were sold for $100!

  • Anyone if you find that Canon 18-200 zoom kit for $199, I'll give you $240 for it, exchange money for kit in Sydney CBD, PM me…

  • I think it depends on store to store. or They are all advised of final clearence price but tell customer somehting else so let them bargain.

Went to chatswood NSW Nikon D3300 ex demo was offering me $699.
cannon EOS550 was offering me $550 (a 4 year old camera and this much price).

    • I think the D3300's aren't part of the clearance. Saw two at two different DS's and they both scanned as $699.

  • +2

DSE Vic Gardens had nothing worth while

  • +2

Scored Sony Action cam for $39 with free $10 DSE Voucher, Nikon S9900 $147 after $50 cash back, Canon IXUS 150 $23.10.

    • Which Sony model and is there a possibility to upload invoice

  • +3

    I snaffled a 32" LG LED for $39.70 and a 32" Samsung LED for $89.70.
And a couple of Panasonic 3D Smart Bluray players for $41.70 ea. Christmas for the kids sorted. Thanks OzB!

  • anyone want to sell me a cheap ps4 controller if you picked one up :)

    • They seem to be in the exclusions list still from what I've read so far :p

  • Found a Panasonic tv on clearance for $550 but it's only 40"

  • Anyone seen a cheap XB1 controller floating around SA stores? Or an XB1 steering wheel?

  • what happens as an alternative if you just grab an item and then get it scanned? Surely then it has to scan at the right price, or can the local store's adjust prices on their system?

  • If you are looking in the comments for a deal, you're already too late. By the time you get to the store its going to be gone anyway.

    • I think it depends on when stores are updating their prices and or marking items…

  • +1

Tough luck! Was going to pick up the LG 55" UHD for $599. I believe an other Ozbargainer was lucky to pick up the last one at glen waverly 30 seconds before me

  • I just ducked out to East Gardens so I didn't feel left out.

Everything seems wiped out. I just bought like $30 worth of Kaiser mounts for my Cuz and I.

All $1 except for the floatie handle which was $5. They did have J, flat and tripod mounts for like $4-6 which I didn't bother with. Seemed that GoPro accessories were still full price. The clampy bendy thing was still $90 or something silly like that.

I now feel part of it :)

No cameras and no TVs it seemed, sales guy said someone came through and bought it all up.

    • walked in to the shop around 10 this morning, nothing much left, no camera, action camera,tv,gaming consoles.

  • LG 55" UHD 3D TV - $599 ….. 8-O

(Of course with a 'SOLD' sign on it)

  • Picked up lg 65" 65ub980t for $1072 from david jones bourke st.. Hopefully i get the david jones amex credit too
Also got the sony 65" 9000b for 1320

    • Nice on jtesh - went there this morning but only to ask about camera's.. What are you going to do with 2 tv's?

      • +1

Hey thanks got one for me and one for a friend..

    • I'm guessing this means there are no super cheap TVs there then :(

      • nope. someone picked a 48" SAMSUNG UHD for 390 i think.

  • Any DS staff that do this and deliberately try and profit should get the sack. This would not be tolerated at a lot of other retailers.

Guys, sorry but this needs to be said.

I've received a PM from an employee of Dick Smith. He was upset, and totally unbelieving of the treatment he's been receiving in-store and on the phone by people claiming to have seen this post. Yes OzBargainers! He's been verbally abused, shown no respect, and threatened because apparently it's his fault they have no stock of product. These are real human beings - like you and I. They may not have a job soon - think of that. And this kid is 17 years old. I'm ashamed!

    • Yup stop abusing them. I walked out of store and said thanks to the staff. It is clearance stock and they may not have them.

    • I was at Glen Waverly some time ago, the staff were friendly. But they wouldnt go further to check on the stock and prices when I pressed further. I also ran into a staff member from an other store who was here to pick up some stuff for himself. But I didnt see any point in getting into an argument and waste my time if they dont have stuff really or not willing to help . Just hard luck. Happy to walk away.

    • +4

Agreed. I guess some people can't accept the fact they missed out - not everyone is going to get a bargain. If you do congratulations, but if Dick Smith does go under these people are potentially out of work for the holiday season so at least be nice.

      • +1

My local DSE got a new employee this morning.

    • Yeah you have to ask nicely and ask them to check their system.

Otherwise they will just tell you to check the price labelled.

They also let me refunded what I have paid by CC and repaid by 10% off gift card.

    • +2

Absolutely disgusting! Not surprised though have seen some questionable behavior from ozbarginers, like asking staff to scan the same item multiple times….

    • agree there was this d**head of a corporate guy at Rundle Mall DSE getting aggressive with the staff because they couldnt find the display box of the camera.

      • you should have given him a couple of 'Cut Lunches'

    • +1

      +1 this.
The staff in the store were practically in tears.
Head office is handling the whole process very poorly and not giving any lead time for staff to get ready.

There were people in store literally ripping the tickets and manager sheets off of staff.
All un-necessary I asked politely and was served promptly, although after the a fore mentioned actions the staffed attitudes soured very quickly.

While I will be returning, I feel bad doing so.

While some DSE staff are doing the wrong thing and hoarding stock, this is the minority and you should not treat them poorly
It is Xmas and the writing is on the wall for these guys. Have a heart!

    • the store i went too (Camberwell) went out of their way to help…Thanks Camberwell

      • What's left at Camberwell? Anything decent camera wise?

        • wasnt looking at cameras but they had stock on display…point n shoots

        • @thehulk1969: Agreed. Ash from Camberwell was swamped with people at 9am and understaffed and obviously underprepared, but did a great job of helping out. Kudos.

        • +1

          @wezza:

I was in camberwell about 30mins ago.

Staff had printed out the discounts sheet for people to go through, and one staff member had grabbed a stack of phones and was scanning them for a customer.

Went looking for a PVR, or something similar. Not much left - it's a smaller store and doesn't stock much normally.

The Canon 1200D was still on the shelves.

        • @psy: How much is the 1200d?

        • @polar:

no idea sorry. just saw it. didn't pay much attn. to the price as I have a 70D already.

    • I heard the same thing this morning - super rude people on the phone asking to check and check again, hanging up on the staff, swearing etc.

Its pretty crap that people are going feral over this - give the employees a break!

    • Yes, local staff were nothing but helpful for me, sees me semi regularly for camelbak a and eneloops, people complaining about employees buying stuff, as long as they are not on selling, I see as a fringe benifit of the job

    • Shame on us

    • +3

Second to this, I had a word to the manager and hopefully she will be willing for me to take photo's of the sheets tomorrow morning.
This is for everyone benefit as it will free up staff and allow the bargain hunters to know in advance what items are on sale and their pricing.

It is significantly easier for staff to look up CAT codes rather than do broad product searches.

Hopefully she is on tomorrow and isn't on stress leave…

      • +10

That's still no excuse to be aggressive and abusive to staff…

        • -2

          I agree 100%

        • +2

          @theworks:

Then please don't say these issues arise from lack of stock (which is actually not even true for everyone - many people have managed to get some great bargains so far thanks to these Dick Smith posts, so I'm not sure how this post is violating Ozbargain posting guidelines). That shifts the blame away from rude and abusive people, who are entirely responsible for their own behaviour and ought to know better.

        • @Lioness15:

I agree with you, the abusive and rude people are the problem. Tightarse didn't create rude or abusive people, they exist everywhere.

The problem as I badly phrased it is sending those people to stores that (with a high probability) don't have stock.

To me, this is proof that the thread in its current form shouldn't exist (and I'm sure the admins would begrudgingly agree).

      • +24

What an incredible comment. I'm lost for words.

        • +3

          @theworks:

For what it's worth, not that feeding the animals gets anywhere.

          My store "Mackay"
Had dozens of TV's, Games and Camera's

Just because you lucked out doesn't mean we all did.
Just because one store didn't have adequate stock doesn't mean that all did.

Mackay still has dozens of games and TV's
Yes the really good stuff went fast, but they still had dSLR's in stock this morning from yesterday.

          I admit I bought 2 dSLR's but I didn't buy the 5 they had in stock.

          But a Troll's gotta troll?

        • +6

The cheaper things become or the better the deal is, the more scumbagy type people you have to deal with unfortunately just like the above poster. Gets angry and blames others because he cant get a "bargain".

Ive found this within my own personal business, completely not retail related (im a tradie) but offering services cheap I just found I was constantly dealing with broke shitbags who expected everything for free. I now charge above average and while it cuts out many customers, the ones I do deal with have a realistic budget and are so much easier to deal with.

I purposely charge slightly more than other local guys and its good peace of mind knowing they are dealing with all the scum that I dont have to bother wasting time on anymore :)

        • @immortalbjr:

I'm not angry, I didn't even go to a store.

I just think its a bit rich to skirt posting guidelines then complain that people are acting the way they were before the guidelines were put in. Even the original post says to approach staff and ask about the deals (which over two days would really grind down the staff).

Apologies if I offended anyone but my point remains. No stock, no deal.

        • "trolls gotta troll" = gold lol

        • +1

@theworks: My 2 cents. If its was an online only store and out of stock, I understand and agree that its NOT a deal (anymore) and can argue to change this post to be EXPIRED.

Clearly, there are still people out there who are able to pick up the items (without being (profanity)).

        • +1

@theworks: I did go to a store, today and yesterday, and there was stock both times and plenty of it for a variety of items. Heck at lunch today they still had games on special that were included in yesterdays rounds of discounts. If people are upset that what they want isn't there then that's their problem, not the OP's or Dick Smiths. It's a clearance. Expectations should be adjusted to match.

        • @Phreaker: Do you know if the Canon 700d is still in stock? today?

        • @polar:

They still had D3200's and D3100 floor stock.
First thing this morning they still had the 700D

I would say your chances are still fair :)

        • @Phreaker: Thanks will get a friend to check for me.

        • +1

          @theworks:

Do you not understand what a clearance sale is? your a special kind of stupid. This is a once off thing so no, not everyone is going to get ipads for $99. The OP is letting people know some of whats available and to head to your local DSE if you want to try your luck.

Theres no use blasting the OP or having a whinge on an internet forum over what you already know, you haven't even gone to a store yet your complaining on a forum about it.

I seen the post, decided I can free up an hour this morning and took a drive down to my store. No such luck for me as some others but I was kinda expecting that, but I didnt feel the need to come and vent from behind a keyboard over my experience, maybe its time you found something more constructive to do with your time.

        • @polar:
I was just in there they still had a D3200 floor model and a D3100 floor model there.
Forgot to ask about the 700D for you mate :(

The staff looked shagged, the manager wasn't there today.
Apparently a heap of stock is reading in stock but is missing, sounds like there is a shrinkage issue at the store…

Really bummed as the TV I wanted to grab shows in stock but is missing.

        • @Phreaker: Thanks Phreaker. They were out of 700d and D3200 when I rang. Im looking for Canon as I already have lenses from an analogue camera.

        • @polar:
Yea sadly they sold the last of the boxed stock when I was in there this morning.

They still had the floor stock if you wanted to take the risk?
The Mount P store had one that looked like it was priced incorrectly, I was just in there.
Nothing really good there, except for some action cams.

      • +1

Issues as in Being abusive and mistreating other People, Well Done.

      • +1

You call thousands of products, a lack of stock?

        • TA was pretty clear, he's getting PMs from staff because they're being abused for lack of stock.

        • @theworks: but this definitely meets stock requirements for a deal. If there was less than 10 products over the whole of Australia then it wouldn't be a deal.

        • @mr kindface:

Which product had more than 10 in stock?
