not true 4K more like 2x1080P, a lot of the cheaper brand tv makers are coming with 4K i would wait till the weekend when dicksmith is having its 70% off sales prob get something similar for closer to $400

    • It is true 4k…"3840x2160"

      • -6

"True 4k" is 4096 pixels wide. 3840x2160 is UHD

        • +8

Well technically yes, DCI 4K, however no mainstream TVs support 4096x2160, and 4K in most consumer grade equipment, especially TVs is 3840x2160

Good price, although you need to sit 89cm away to benefit from this resolution at this size (assuming you actually have uhd footage to watch)

  • Look like the Onix UHD TV sold at Target and has the same features and ports as the DSE UHD TV.
I wonder who is making this panel? Would love to pull one apart and find out who the manufacturer is.

The 42" panel in the Onix on sale at Target is made by Innolux. There are a plethora of manufacturers using this same panel, including Kogan. http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1852015

It really bothers me every time someone mentions that UHD is not true 4K because that is a slightly misleading thing to mention. Resolution-wise, 4K and UHD are the exact same, 2160p.

4K (4096x2160) is for cinematic movies, which equates to roughly a 1.85 or 1.78 aspect ratio which movies have historically been and still are shot with today.

UHD is for television shows and as mentioned above, most consumer recording devices don't record at 4K, but at UHD resolution, which equates to a standard television 16:9 aspect ratio.

There's really no difference in quality between 4K and UHD. It's just aspect ratios.
