  • I went there once.

Wasn't too impressed with the quality of their meat…

  • Yes…rancid (Funky green colour) on the Meat at my local. Dirty Knives or boards….

    • which one? I shall avoid, generally say they're fresh except those short dated

  • +1

The meat is super fresh IME as they literally sell truckloads of it.

The prices are much higher than a year ago, that's the bad thing.

their meet is great, used to buy from boutique butcher at sth melbourne and prahran markets but have started to use Tasman because they are much cheaper on beef. Their beef is on average 25% cheaper than Coles or Safeway,

problem is we have a drought, USA has a drought so USA is buying our meat and thanks to the dollar our meet is cheap for overseas consumers……… welcome to globalisation…….. as Chinas' middle class consumes more, we will see issues due to supply and demand price pushes ………… check the demand for Australian baby formula ……………… and under the china free trade agreement it will become worse as they own the whole supply chain from australian farm, can bring in their won workers, all the way to supermarket shelves in china. Investment restrictions , they just buy farms next to each other and for smaller amounts ….. as many as they like, they bought 3 near bendigo as separate lots because they were next to each other, but each was below investment threshold as an individual parcel.

Thats' why McDonalds are promoting their boutique chicken burgers more than beef ….. chicken is cheaper than beef and they need to absorb the beef price rises and can't alter menu prices too often.

Welcome to the new world order…………. beef prices have gone up 30% in 12 months.

Tasman meat seems to be the last affordable place as even supermarkets have jacked up their prices on beef.

If people have problems with the quality of tasman meats, maybe they aren't cooking it right

As to hygiene , the southland store is open plan so you can see them cutting and packing the meat ……. unlike many fast food places where you can't see what happens out the back.

      • Thanks. Very informative! Beef at Tasman used to be crazy cheap. I used to say that even at the time. Economy mince $3.50/Kg! Premium mince $5.99! We eat less beef now!

Indonesia stopped importing live cattle, though. That didn't seem to affect price.

Lamb seems to not increased too much. Chicken and pork prices haven't changed. I guess the Americans and Chinese can raise their own. McDonalds in china have a premium on beef products, too.

Given the news relating red meat to cancer, it's probably not a b
