You don't have to be forced to buy for it to be a crappy experience. If your tour itinerary involves going to a store for 90 minutes and there's no way to move on to the next site of interest until you've done your time sitting there, it's not going to be fun. Technically, you're not forced to buy anything, but if you have travelled all the way to China to see the sites and then find yourself required to spend 3-4 hours every day in various "Jade Museums" (aka shops), you'd have been better off with another tour.
Note: I have no experience with this company, and am not suggesting this is what they do. All I'm saying is that anyone looking at any packaged tour should read the itinerary closely to see if it's going to meet their expectations.
A quite tricky iteration, many places on the list are not worth visiting for a such short trip. It seems the admission fees are not included in the price. Proberly that's the reason for these places on the list. Not to mention, "The Greate Wall" on the iteration is not acutally "THE" the Great Wall.
All hotels are listed xxx or similar, I think most likely you will get the "similar". I am pretty sure you will end up spending a lot more than $1299 as there will be a lot more "optional" you have to pay.
I agreed, i heard after they handed over to their CHINESE partner in China, they wont care how it goes anymore.
The spending in their associate shop is about $400 AUD per head, if you don't spend you cant leave the shop.
I would just go by my self and spend whatever I need to, all the shop is over priced and only worth 10% of the product value, it end up 90% in their pocket.

By the one who joined this kind of unbelievably cheap tour. I am not saying this is the one but it is "this kind" of tour.
Do some math, how much do you think you will need for only Hotel and air ticket for 8 days?

Thanks, The special tour is to celebrate Hainan Airlines launching direct flight from Xi'an to Sydney, that is why we have such good price. The company has been in Australia for 30 years.
