Just so people know the GTX 745 will get you about half to two thirds the frame rate of a GTX 750 Ti.

    • Is that good?

      • +1

It's OK. You'll game at 720p very well but struggle pretty badly at 1080p.

The 750 Ti is generally considered the minimum for a decent gamer machine.

        • Thanks heaps :)

Hows the 2nd machine? Does that one provide a bit more grunt?

        • +1

@greenraida: Knocks it out of the park. About double the 750Ti. A little high on heat and power consumption compared to newer cards but very good at delivering frames.

@greenraida: The 2nd one comes with a water cooling system.

  • Anyone comment on a starter NAS to buy?

I hear the Sinology may be easier to setup?

I have no idea - just want it to hold all my media - atm have a small drive connected to my airport extreme.

    • I've had both Synology & QNAP. The setup is easy on both.
If you don't need a RAID (data protection in case a drive fails)then this may not be the best choice. 8TB from amazon for $300 may do.

    • Hi there

The synology DS216SE is a good option for a starter NAS, if you are looking for play video over the NAS the DS216 Play will have better performance due to the higher specification.

All the synology NAS come with the user friendly UI which is easy to set up. However, we will configure the NAS for you before shipping out if you purchase the NAS with HDD.

      Regards,
      PC Lan

    • I use Synology at home and have briefly touched QNAP at work. I much prefer the Synology.

The Synology is the best thing I have bought for a while. The apps that can run on it are cool. Cloud station syncs files to the NAS and then out to other PC/Mac's. So I make a change on one computer and it ends up on all of them. Remote access to files is easy (the hardest part is opening a port on the router)

pease of mind with many levels of redundancy and the ability of mixing disk size/manufacturer is nice! Even a hot spare is comforting if you can justify having a drive available just in case of a failure. (Protects if 2 drives fail)

I started with a 4 bay and then moved to an 8 bay. Got one more slot left to fill before I start looking at a 5 bay expansion.

  • Hi rep - I'm interested in the DS215j - would you be able to offer a deal on these?

  • +2

Looks like shopping express has the Qnap devices far cheaper. PCLan $569 for the TS-451 vs Shopping Express $489 for the same product.

  • I was just looking at that HP Envy i7 on other websites. 1400 isn't bad but personally not enough of a deal compared to the other offers that have come through OzB. Patience and something better will come along I think =)
