Not an earth shattering deal but a chance to save a few bucks on devices from Chinese company which doesn't usually offer a discount on the bare minimum. Supposed to be a USD60 phone but most sales outlets usually add a few bucks more.

It's decent enough compared to what's available locally, has fairy recent software and a nice display and is responsive.

I'm usually an iPhone user but here's my understanding of it.

Base specs
5" 720p display
Quad core
Android 5
Dual sim holder
2gb ram

  • Keep in mind the pro is hovering at $110-115AUD at the moment… arguably I find it alot better phone.

    http://www.kimovil.com/en/compare/doogee-x5-3g-galicia,dooge…

Doogee X5 is a HIGHLY popular phone but they seem to be spitting out different specs every month or so for this phone now.

    Seems dodgy to me…

      • +4

        Any reason for the neg?

        • Honestly it seems nice enough to buy for a parent or relative

        • @mitchins: That's right. It's quite good for the price. He hasn't even provided a reason for his neg, so it's invalid.

          @Clear:

          Spy phone

        • @kevin22: Proof?

        • @Clear:
          Developer option disabled, most features.

    • Thanks

Also… ha ha… this IS the most popular mobile on Aliexpress! Has to be alot less than dodgy to sell that many!

  • Would be interested what people's thoughts are. I'm looking for a dual sim phone to use on the Telstra network. Don't need anything fancy.

    • I am using a Lenovo K3 Note that I purchased for $200 from JD.com which has been flawless. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/207741

    • +1

This takes two sims. Large screen good resolution and smooth response

    • Well this probably is not the phone for you. Telstra are switching off the 2G network in December which will effectively render this a one SIM card phone, as the second SIM only runs on 2G as far as I know.

  • +2

im probably the only few who had this phone locally

2 cons that stood out is, reception is poor within this country and battery calibration seems incorrect.

other than that, build quality is much higher than what you pay for and software is slick and fast, 5.1 out of box

when i said had, i was simply curious to see how cheap they could go for, i sold it less than a day of play as i have better phones.

  • also ram is 1gb for non pro version

  • +3

As far as I can tell it runs very smooth and the screen is much clearer than any sub $100 phone I've seen locally.

It's really quite pleasant as far as I can tell, keep in mind I'm used to iPhone.

  • i'm only interested in the pro model as its 4g

    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/5-HD-IPS-Doogee-X5-Pro-DOOGEE…

    $123 here

    http://www.dealsmachine.com/best_269336.html

    $113 here

may be some coupons that make it cheaper

still i have that $129 lumia 640 so eh… not that interested

    • the Lumia also has most of our Australian 4 g bands.

  • $79 bucks for a half decent spec phone is pretty good.
    C'mon guys it's $79!
any idea what networks it will work on in 3g and 4g?

    • +1

why has some negged this, isn't $79 cheap for the specs?

      • +2

It even craps on the Agora lite from Kogan now reduce to $99. It's actually a fairy decent screen.

      • you didnt read the specs

the base model is 3g only

        the x5 pro is 4g

        • +1

I noticed later. but still no-one answered. $79 is still cheap for a 5inch phone, I recon it would be great as a backup phone for when , say, you drop your 'good' phone.
could have just said optus 3g, no 4g rather than neg and say nuttin'

      • +1

I didn't neg it but to answer your question, many reviews and forums are full of people complaining about how many bugs and errors and outright lies about specs for the Doogee phones. OS crashes, no reception or frequent reception drop outs, low quality batteries etc. So $79 for a piece of junk is over priced.
If Doogee was a reputable company I would certainly buy their phones, but I did some research and they are bad !!!
Unless they have changed and improved ???

        • Thanks.
I was never going to buy but thought it looked good for the price.

  • How would warranty processes work in the event of something going pear-shaped?

    • +3

Throw it out and buy a new phone.

      • Heh, thanks. In that case I'll wait for a deal from domestic retailers who would at least take warranty concerns into consideration. I've recently had a phone go awry on me and it was only fixed thanks to local warranty.

        • That's my view too. I find I end up claiming warranty on about half of electronics these days (I use my devices a lot and I expect them to be flawless)

    • Get a pair and you'll be fine

    • You would have to send it back. PayPal will refund return postage.

      • except you cant use paypal at aliexpress.

        • +1

          Crap. I always forget that.
