This is one of the Sony clones, rather than a medium format. Uses "only" a 35mm full frame sensor and has Sony A-mount (rather than the newer E-mount). Better to just buy an alpha 7ii with a Zeiss lens.

No one has claimed it was medium format? It's still cheaper than the equivalent Sony combo…

Sony Alpha SLT-A99V Full-Frame SLR Digital Camera with 3-Inch LED - Body Only (Black) @ amazon for $1,998.00US
Sony 24 -70mm f/2.8 Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T Zoom Lens for Sony Alpha Digital SLR Cameras @ amazon for $1,998.00US
      Total: $3996US

$500US saving is still a saving

I see what drjt87 is saying though, when you get a Hasselblad, you're (kinda) after a medium format.

Quite tempted except changing system means flogging all the lenses.

          Nobody claimed its medium format.

          @Orpheus:

I never said it is either.

For most people a Hasselblad is a synonym for Medium Format (I thought it when I saw the deal without reading the description).

The A99V is available for AU$2099 at http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/sony-alpha-a99v-body…
The lens is officially discontinued … and was as low as US$1600. Did not really search but looks like you need to spend now US$1998 … (around AU$2815) on Amazon 3rd party sellers (as you mentioned).
—> AU$4914 —> so around the same price as this Hasselblad deal

(so you get the Hasselblad branding for free —> which you should have got in the first place)

For me it is an older camera with an discontinued lens at the old RRP …

    But can it take selfies?

    • only counts if you can find a selfie stick for it..

    • Not sure, but you can get a helmet mount for those action shots…. http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/that-guy-proves-it-you-can-do…

      • You just need to wear a neck brace for when you hit those bumps or you'll have a nasty neck strain.
I also expect that the plods would take an unnatural interest in the big hunk of electronics obscuring your view of the road and its users.

    • Does it come with a waterproof case for shower shots?

  • For a second I thought that is a mega deal … upgrade to medium format Hasselblad inclusive lens :-) (I know it is not in the deal description … but most people will think of medium format when they hear Hasselblad ). Ah wait … looks a bit different … Hasselblad? … Full Format? … what did they do here? It's a rebranded Sony A99 which you get for around AU$2300 at DWI (body only). The lens is discontinued … but you should might find it for a bit over AU$2000.

A good deal when you consider the RRP (and now more in line with the Sony price).

Just a tacky rebadge of the 3 year old Sony a99 with the version I of the 24-70/2.8. Sony A-mount is pretty much dead now. If youre going to spend this much money youre better off investing in Canon or Nikon.

    • ….or a Sony…or Olympus or pretty much anything else… ;-)

      • Olympus dont make DSLRs and Sony doesnt have another DSLR mount.

        • Sure, but whether a camera has a mirror or not, or even the sensor size, is starting to matter less and less. IQ and how it handles to help you get good pictures is key. Those are some of the reasons why I sold my Nikon kit and switched to the A7 [ok, maybe sensor size does still matter for me :-) ].

Just as the A-Mount may be fading away (I know that Sony Australia are no longer stocking them http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sony-australia-will-not-sell-…), it's always possible that the same may start to happen with DSLRs…. ( http://www.diyphotography.net/sony-germany-sold-more-cameras… ). We'll have to wait and see!

        • @PlasticSpaceman: Someone that wants a big ergonomic rugged camera like an a99 isnt after the form factor and certain limitations of a mirrorless body. FF mirrorless currently still lags behind sports/action/wildlife telephoto shooting with AF, tracking and FPS.

When the technology of mirrorless has reliably surprassed DSLR performance and speed, Canon and Nikon will probably just continue making bodies without the mirror. Its unlikely they will stopp supporting their mounts and lenses anytime soon as many pros are invested in their systems.

Here are a list of people that want a small format Hassy:

  • If anyone wants a pretend 'blad lens for their A5/6k, you can currently get the 16mm for US$149 plus shipping http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1165358-REG/hasselblad…). Also known as the SEL16F28 - not the most amazing lens out there, but at US$163.80 inc cheapest shipping (AUD$231) it appears to be the cheapest out there currently. I'm giving it a miss - I'm happy with my 19mm Sigma even if it's physically bigger and not as wide an angle.
