I was following the posts this whirlpool forum https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2454603 about energy monitors. Smappee $269, efergy $199 etc.
Then a quick review of efergy solar kit resulting in finding mydeal.com.au at 9% off.
Usually $199 at http://efergy.com/au/products/engage-solar#.VUsSaiGeDGc/
If you don't have a 'smart' meter, then this is probably as good a way to go as any. For a number of years I used a Wattson with a number of clamps to measure my power usage (I have three phase so needed more). I liked it, and the accuracy was 'good enough', but have not looked back since I had the smart meter installed. Can see my current (so to speak) and historical usage info on the utility provider website. I also use a Rainforest raven usb key plugged into a raspberry pi to feed usage into pvoutput, and solar is fed in via a separate script.
