  • Nice, I have a 2405 which I've used daily for 4 years now, it is great. I had to replace the power supply circuit board on it late last year ($50 for the part), but other than that it is a very nice monitor. I can only imagine the 08 is even better, considering it is 3 models newer.

I paid 600 quid for it in '05, which is quite reasonable with todays exchange rate, but back then, not so much.

    • yeah I paid NZ$1100 for my 2405 4 years ago… still going strong…

    • where did you get the part from? ebay?

    • why is it great that a component failed in it and you had to pay money to repair?

      • -1

Well I think it was great that I was able to repair it myself for a fraction of the replacement cost. I should get another 4 years out of it now too!

    Nice price.

  • I prefer the acer P244W much cheaper and also has HD 1080! but nice deal for a dell

    • +2

P244W isn't really in the same league. The acer is a TN panel, while the Dell is an S-PVA.

The acer is good for what it is but its a different market to the Dell.

I own a P244W and I've seen this Dell monitor in action. The only difference I can comprehend is the slow resolution change on the P244W. Both are very sufficient in regards to sharpness, contract ratio and practically everything really.
The P244W is about $2-300 these days and the extra $200 for the 2408W is simply not worth it IMHO.

      • I reckon there is not reason to justify the 200$$ hike

        • If you ever tried photo/video editing on an IPS panel, you'd know what the rave is about.

I've got a P244W for $250, and yet i want this Dell for $500. says something.

          • @kimmik: DEJA VU.. i remember this line of conversation not that long ago :)

            • @2enjoy: sorry, not following… Garcon, coffee!

  • The 2408WFP has already been replaced by the U2410 which has been on sale for months now. $599 is a good price, but I'd probably spend the extra $200 to get the U2410 which is an IPS panel.

It's $509.14 after applying the coupon code - which doesn't seem to work with the U2410. Which makes the U2410 57% more expensive than the 2408WFP, and from reports from people who actually own both an S-PVA panel and an IPS panel, you can't really tell the difference when sitting directly in front of it (let alone a 57% improvement.) Also why I chose this over the HP LP2475W which is another great screen, but also $800.

Great bargain! Can't wait for mine to arrive.

      • I got the coupon code to work for the U2410, I added the 2408W to my cart first, applied the code then went back and added the U2410. Which gives you a saving of $119.85

      • The 15% coupon works on the U2410, making the difference more like $170. For such a little difference, I would still get the newer model which offers a better panel technology, more connections, and 12bit LUT. The only visible advantage i can see the PVA on the 2408 having is blacks are better.

  • I bought two of these 18 months ago - they were 899 then. Fantastic monitors. Extreme detail, huge angle of view so excellent colour accuracy I'm tempted to get another now, just in case one ever breaks! On the down side, they do run a bit hot, but then you will never need to heat your office!

lol wouldnt u rather wait, that way they would depreciate? (bust a rhyme!)

      • massive props for the rhyme.

  • does anyone know what revision levels these are at?

    look at this: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/images/dell_2408wfp/input_lag.jp…

    • I originally had the rev 0 monitor with the terrible lag. Complained to Dell and they replaced it with the higher revision fixing the problem. This was about a year ago so I'm assuming they have firmware upgraded all their monitors now.

    • It'll be definitely A02 or newer (maybe?) as I bought mine middle of last year when U2410 was newly debutted at the same time

  • i have two 2408s they are fantastic. considering a 3rd

  • Great find and a good bargain

Still I rip off as new model out and they were going for $530 two years ago!

    • I picked mine up super sale for that price. Well worth the money, I couldnt imagine living without it now.

  • The Ultrasharp series is great! Got my 2405 from WP group buy back in 2005 and it's still going strong. The only thing is that the integrated card reader doesn't support SDHC (SD cards greater than 2GB), but understandable because SDHC doesn't exist 5 years ago.

Also like to point out that the 24" Ultrasharp is a proper WUXGA screen (1920 x 1200), unlike many cheaper 23/24 inches that are only 1920 x 1080.

  • Hi..to get the firmware upgrade, do I just tell the dell part number or they need an invoice for it?
Is the person come to my place or I just download the file and upgrade myself?

    Please let me know. thanks

  • Got two of these in our home. Great monitors replacing Sony 21" CRT.
Only problem is both have developed vertical lines on the left hand side when the unit is cold.
Both need to be sent back under warranty.

Also have a 2409, the 2408 is much better, although some like the Tn panel for gaming.

AFAIK you can not upgrade the firmware. This is built into the unit, so it requires replacement.

  • dell are pretty good for replacement. i asked for a replacement for the stand and they sent a whole new monitor and allow you to keep both for a couple of days until they organise the courier to pick up the defective monitor etc

  • is this a IPS panel?

    • No, it's S-PVA. The U2410 is the 24inch IPS in the Dell range. All of the cheaper 24s are TN.

    • my bad

  • Dell has failed to deliver my monitor 3 times now - first they promised last thursday, then yesterday, then today. Going to cancel and request a refund.
