ASPROUNION is small Fairtrade Certified agricultural and social co-operative whose goal is to produce highest quality coffee whilst maintaining environmental responsibility and supporting the welfare of its community of growers. Established in 2001 ASPROUNION has 300 family members all of whom are small-scale coffee producers located in the area of La Union in Narino District in southern Colombia. The coffee produced by ASPROUNION farmers is considered by national and international experts (including the SCAA: Speciality Coffee Association of America) to be high quality specialty coffee. The coffee is grown under the shade of native trees and tropical fruit – with organic soil inputs, on well draining soils. The particular climatic and geographic conditions of La Union - situated between 1400-1900mtrs above sea level in the volcanic soils of the MacizoColumbiano ranges - along with the traditional practices at cultivation, harvesting and post-harvesting stages, combine to produce a unique coffee with exceptional physical and sensory characteristics.
