Can it be rekeyed in Australia to match a standard "lockwood" type key?
Does it replace the normal Lockwood type external cylinder - ie pull the inside part of the lock off, remove the outside cylinder, put this on and put the inside back together?

  • sweet i can finally put a lock to my tree house

  • With locks like these, after a few years the numbers wear off, on the buttons that are most used. So it makes it much easier for an intruder to guess the combination!

You can avoid this problem and make them more secure by sanding off the numbers, and putting a drawing of the keypad (with numbers) above the lock.

Or you could regularly change the combinations, to evenly wear all numbers, just like everyone regularly changes their passwords, right?

    • The numbers are silicon-coated so hopefully wont wear off for a while

Why is Australia so much more expensive then USA, you seem to be able to pickup this deadbolt for around $100 in the US, but to buy it in Australia at Masters is $390. even with the bad dollar and postage cost, how can it be four times the price
Even if you add in the fact that we are a smaller country and more expensive to do everything compared to USA, should it really be four times the price. Someone is making a large profit.

That's why it's called the Australia Tax.

    • The worst was digital game downloads that were still twice the price here than in other regions :(
A fun activity is to go to the US Dell website and spec out a new PC/laptop. Once you have a price, change the country selector to Australia (from the default US) and see the difference in price.

    • Thats why I pirate everything.

Can I suggest something more simple like

    http://www.hihi.com.au/outdoor-wall-mount-key-safe-box-lock-…

Battery never goes flat and you can easily have multiple entry codes/users, just by buying multiple units.

  • Since it doesn't have a key on the inside, this is not really a deadlock is it? (because you can open it from inside without a key). Won't fit insurance company definition of deadlock - because burglars can get in a window, then open the door and make off with your belongings.

Looking at the video, it is a bolt, not a latch like the Lockwood 001 so you can't close the door if it's locked.

  • Price seems to have gone back up to USD$94 + shipping
