6 Months of Free Presto

3740
PRESTO

This deal has supposedly expired and the original thread has it marked thusly but a comment down the the bottom said they'd used it a few days ago and it is still working today…

So… REPOST.
Want 6 months of free Presto, Netflix' special needs equivalent?

Text "PRESTO" to 0498 500 400 to receive your code. Was told that its meant to be for Telstra customers only and offer expired in October but just did it then and signed up.

You'll still need a credit/debit card to verify account.

Mod: To remind yourself to cancel/review your Presto before the 6 month trial ends, hit the NEW Reminder link below where you can auto-add this event to your Google Calendar, iPhone etc. as well as custom date OzBargain reminders.

  • any idea where to put the code (from the text from telstra) if you already have a presto membership?
I just cancelled my current period yesterday and it says "Subscription: Presto Entertainment - Pausing on 20/11/2015"

    • It's for new customers/accounts only

  • Thanks OP

I`m getting a DRM error saying " youre not authorized to view this content"

Can anyone please advise what i`m doing wrong?

    • Firefox said I needed flash player. But it worked fine on Edge (windows 10) out of the box. Try chrome? If you're all signed up properly then go to the Presto forum.

    • Hi I got the same error on firefox but works fine on edge.

  • Does anyone have access to the current .apk? I wanted to try this on my Amazon Fire Tv's

  • worked for me , but i couldnt enable the last rating…. wouldnt turn on.

  • The app on my Samsung TV is a bucket of shit

    • +2

Agree, holy hell its like using a nintendo; except the NES was quicker!!!

  • already have the free 2 months from AMEX, wonder if it stacks or i can use the code at a later date?

  • Thanks!

  • How long did it take to get the code texted back? Don't think it worked for me - would have thought almost instant response - automated.

    • Took a few mins for me, on Telstra.

  • +1

Was instant when I did it.

  • Tried this the last time they had free, was horrible platform with garbage content. Wonder if they upped their game..

  • "internet connection with minimum speed of 3 Mbps"

Not even going to bother :(

    • +1

3Mbps is pretty slow? Basic cable is 10, ADSL2+ is up to 24, Cable and NBN can go up to 100?

      • Basic cable is 10? In what planet…

Just tested. Mine's barely a measly 2 WTF MAKES MY EYES RAIN :'(

        http://www.speedtest.net/

        • +1

I'd be complaining to my provider. ADSL is kinda hit and miss, I'm 3km from the exchange and still get 8. Get 25 on Amaysim LTE. I'd try disconnecting everything except one computer connected by Ethernet cause that's messed up. I was getting 10Mbps on cable back in '99

        • @jonathonsunshine:

          Thanks, will test it out.

        • +1

@jonathonsunshine: There are so many variables it is pointless to say "do xyz to improve speed", because 99% of speed issues are the fault of the crappy old kilometres of copper on ADSL. A lot of people make the mistake of buying a fancy $200 modem, etc. and it ends up giving the exact same speeds, because that's the limit of the line.

You're lucky to get 8mbps on ADSL, I was getting 2.8 on mine before switching to TransACT VDSL2 (Canberra only) which now gives me a comfortable 52mbps.

Just because time goes on, doesn't mean internet speeds go up ;) Sounds like your 10Mbps cable in '99 was a very extremely good connection back then

        • @brezzo: yeah but this guy is on cable? Should be getting way better that 2.2Mbps. And even though I lived in inner suburban Brisbane, I was under the impression that Cable was just that fast. I will stand by my comment that Cable should be faster that 3Mbps.

Optus lists there "base speed" on cable as 30Mbps

    • I get about 2.2 Mbps at my place and it works fine, no buffering

  • Thanks OP! Wouldn't let me sign up via Chrome on OS X but Safari worked a treat, Cheers!

  • +14

Don't know if it'll work but I received this generic code in an email "TEL515TBV3" with instructions to sign up via https://www.presto.com.au/telstra

If it works, let us know! Could help skip the texting hassle.

    • +1

Same, 6 months free. Generic code.

    • +1

This code works - just signed up.

    • damnit could've saved me SMS money! although it's already included in my quota…..

    • Mate you should post this as a new deal unless the promo code has already been posted. It worked for me and I've already had 6 months free.

  • Thanx OP!

  • always have the error when trying to play any video .. decided not to waste my time

    • looks like they fixed it or something.. works now.

  • Works for me :)

  • I got no reply from the text message… am with an Optus MVNO.

    • +1

Im with Virgin and it worked for me. Maybe just try again.

      • Good advice, I tried again and it did work… who knows what went wrong the first time!

    • I'm Optus and it works for me

  • thanks OP, not sure what to watch though - list seems limited..

    • +11

Oh, its not for watching. It's just for having. Like all free stuff.

  • Assuming that they found out that we are not a Telstra customer, what will be the consequences?

    • +3

      Jail. For all of us.

      • …in the one cell.

  • +3

I just entered the code that I found on the Telstra Crowd forum (TELTB6MTH615) and it changes the package cost to say "You will be charged $0.00 per month for the first 6 months, then $14.99 per month there after". SMS is not required.

    https://www.presto.com.au/Telstra/TELTB6MTH615?step=subscrip…

  • Thanks Op
It works on TPG(Optus or Vodafone)

  • +1

Good timing - I just got a calendar reminder to cancel my current 6 month free subscription. Cancelled the old one and signed up for a new 6 months free.

  • I used the generic code and it worked. Now I have more reasons not to fall asleep in bed at night.

    Thank you.

  • Where is the HD stuff? Literally everything I find looks like dvdrips…. What is this, 2005?

    • +1

Browser streams look like arse. Presto only streams HD in the app, with Chromecast too.

      • thanks mate

      • Good to know they do provide HD programs. Still what's the advantage compared to Netflix? I don't think Presto can compare to Netflix US catalogue anyway.

  • Is there no app for ps4?

    • My understanding is that some smart TVs have an app. Other wise the Telstra box, pc, chrome cast or apple airstream or whatever it's called.

  • +2

If your looking for a good TV show to watch on Presto…..Mr Robot

    • Halt and Catch Fire. Not exclusive, I just really like it. It's been renewed for season3 also.

  • They charged $1 to my card. Does this get refunded? Just curious.

    • +1

      Yes

  • No Presto app on my Panasonic TV…

  • Worked for me, thanks OP :)

  • +1

once you've subscribed to a plan using the code.. can you then edit your CC details straight away? or do you have to wait 6 months?

    • No you can't. If you want to unsubscribe, you have to close the account.

And btw, presto's program is poor quality. And not too many option when playing. It's rubbish.

  • +1

    Sorry
You can't watch Presto on a jailbroken device

This is on my rooted Note 3….

No wonder the app is 2.1 stars

    • My lgg3 is rooted?

      • yeah i dunno man.. maybe it's cos i have a custom rom.. although mine is based on the official samsung one not cm :S

      • +1

Ah snap, I installed it but never actually played anything. Got same message.

        • Doesn't work on jailbroken iOS either. There used to be bypass tools (mainly xcon) to still allow the app to work however presto seemed to improved their jailbreak detection coding.

  • So, this is a useless bargain for who have Netflix already?

    • useless bargain for who have Netflix

Different shows… Depends what you like watching.

    • Yes, apart from a couple of shows that might be interested in.

  • Thanks OP, works:)

  • How do I cancel subscription when approach 6 months time. Do I click pause subscription?

    • How do I cancel subscription

You have to give them your first born…

  • Presto has terrible device limits - only 4 devices can be registered but chromecast dongles count as a device so if you have two dongles and say two phones to cast to them you have already used up all 4 devices (and it also registers devices without prompting you so it is easy to use up the limit by mistake)
last time i checked apple devices don't cast correctly as well - you just get a black screen when casting - the presto forum has complaints going back for over 6 months and they still haven't fixed it).
And the quality is crap compared to Stan, looks like VHS and is very laggy and it also plays like crap on PC's (constant video stutter).

    • The few minutes I played (on my albeit pretty decent computer) were buttery smooth. Still only SD though.

      • Maybe they fixed the PC playback problem, was it using microsoft silverlight? that was the previous issue, it caused lots of playback micro stutter. (apparently worked fine on Macs as they didn't use silverlight - but casting from ipads etc wouldn't work)
I would test it but all my device slots are used up with two chromecast dongles and two phones to cast to them.

  • Worked for me. No Telstra account, no problem.

  • +2

    Will presto and chill work?

    • +1

Doubtful. But in my experience neither does Netflix and chill :(

  • +8

Read that as 6 months of free pesto and clicked.

    Disappointment =/

    • +1

      Me too :(

  • curious about it but do almost all of my viewing on an Amazon bought Roku 2 (had it since 2012 I think) and I'm not sure this is available on it, and changing out to an Android based device (which also sounds flakey) isn't something I'd like to do.. (I do it now when the Mrs wants to watch iView or SBS but super rarely)

anybody know if I can get this working on my Roku or is it just the local Telstra ones that are supported?

I mainly watch Netflix and Amazon Prime, is this even worth the effort?

  • I'm not paying for this sh!t, but free, meh!

  • yay worked!

  • Worked for me, OPTUS.

  • Works for me and free data too (Im on Telstra broadband)

  • +7

That'll teach me to not copy and paste the number. I've been sending some poor sod "PRESTO" about four times over the last two days because I typed the number in wrong -_-

    • +2

So it was you! Anyways, made me check it out, haha.

  • Can this be stacked with multiple codes from multiple phone number?

  • On Vodafone and worked for me.
    Thanks OP, great find

  • Just tried this - worked instantly. 6 months from today is Tuesday 3rd May 2016 so better set a reminder on phone

    • Better make sure they are counting hte month the same way. Would be nice if they indicated the date the trial time expires like Spotify does but I guess this is the tactic to get people to pay?

  • Anyone else get hit with a $1 charge today on their credit card??!

    • I think that might just be a pre-authorisation charge so they can verify your credit card is legitimate?

    • Yeah, but it will be reversed.

    • Yes, I'd say it's just to verify the card. It will stay pending for a few days then disappear.

  • Non-Telstra customer, new customer, new account, texted from Vodafone. It worked. Awesome, my free 6m Netflix from Optus is expiring this month, yeah another free premium TV/Movie streaming. Kudos OP!

    • +1

I'd question the use of the word "premium", but hey, it's free $0 per month.

  • The code works. but the presto keep on rejecting few of my credit card… it is weird. Anyone experience the similar thing?

  • Tried to use my Qantas FF card - it let me progress through, but complained at the end about not being valid :-(

    • yes that is exactly happened to me, it let me through and mention that it has something wrong. Even I used normal or prepaid cc it wouldn't let me through
