6 Months of Free Presto

3740
PRESTO

This deal has supposedly expired and the original thread has it marked thusly but a comment down the the bottom said they'd used it a few days ago and it is still working today…

So… REPOST.
Want 6 months of free Presto, Netflix' special needs equivalent?

Text "PRESTO" to 0498 500 400 to receive your code. Was told that its meant to be for Telstra customers only and offer expired in October but just did it then and signed up.

You'll still need a credit/debit card to verify account.

Mod: To remind yourself to cancel/review your Presto before the 6 month trial ends, hit the NEW Reminder link below where you can auto-add this event to your Google Calendar, iPhone etc. as well as custom date OzBargain reminders.

  • Good to see they've finally started improving their catalogue.

    • +1

For free service, its not bad at all. Had an OK amount of TV shows and movies. Not many of the latest stuff but hey its $0.00
Tried the app yesterday, they must've fixed it since it streamed HD fine to my Android phone, no crashes or other issues

  • I thought about linking to the presto website but it doesn't actually have anything written about this deal so I just linked to the original OB post.

    • it's expired now - but thank you - got a text back 'your message did not match an active promotion and was not processed'
I guess they caught on that their ended promotion was still working

  • +1

okay I got the code but it errors when I enter it - anyone else having this issue?

    • Caps?

      • +1

        typed it in exactly :(

        • Hmm. Have you used Presto before? Might be for new customers only.

        • @jonathonsunshine:

good point, oh well good find for anyone that can use it.

        • @wallet72: I am not a new customer & it worked for me, although I had to create a new account.
I had free 3 months once before. I am with Vodafone.
Because I use pushbullet I was able to copy & paste the code.

        • @chooky12:

yeah I cut and paste from Pushbullet too (damn fine tool, that) but I didn't create a new account. I'll try that now

    • many thanks to everyone for the advice, it seems that my email address was remembered by Presto when I started to sign up months ago.

  • Sorry. Maybe the 100+ clicks set off alarm bells?

  • Are u a telstra customer? I got the sms on Optus but haven't signed up yet (not home)

    • I'm an Optus mobile and broadband customer, maybe that's it.

  • Will this be metered quota on Internode?

    • +1

I believe it will be metered for all but Telstra customers.

  • +1

    Just worked for me.

  • I'm on Amaysim and managed to do it?

  • +1

Why can't I enable Restricted R 18+ content, even though they have my DOB !

    • I was wondering about this also. But the I looked up True Blood and Evil Dead, both rated R in Australia and they were listed as MA15+

      • First TV doco that showed up was "After Porn Ends". The word porn made me think - this may be R18+ which it is :-)

        Requested pin, & opened ok.
But that's as far as I got - just testing it out, honest.

        • +8

Dude, you don't wanna see porn stars after they've retired, it's like seeing how sausage is made, all the magic is gone…

        • @jonathonsunshine:
Your question below was "Could you actually find anything that said it was R18+ ?". A: Yes.

Only wanted to confirm use of pin with R18+. Believe me when I read the description, I went no further.

        • Same here, watched 1 minute, was extremely boring so moved on

    • Apparently you gotta enter your pin every time you wanna watch an R18+ thing.

      • +1

Could you actually find anything that said it was R18+ ?

    • +17

      p0rnhub is free bro….. lol

    • +32

The trick is to not forget

    • +6

No (profanity) shit. Most companies do it that's why you have to cancel. I get that you might not be bothered/forget but that does not mean it is not a bargain.

      • +4

        Isn't s#!t a profanity?

        • +3

          not in Australia

        • @havok44:

          lol since when…

          "Holy (beep)"

    • Holy jesus this is the dumbest comment I have seen here. EVER.

      • Not really. Lots of ozbargainers instinctually get freebies just because its free, even if they dont use it or need it. However with this deal there will be a few people that will forget about signing up to this in 6 months time and will get their credit card charged. Its already happened in previous Presto deals.

    • +4

I've got into the habit of setting a google reminder / alarm on my calendar telling me to cancel something one week off the expiry date to prevent this from happening.

  • Worked for me! I'm on Vodafone.

    • Do a search for presto on OB and look for the expired 6 month free deals. That where I pretty much cut and pasted this deal. 600+ likes and no complaints?

    • +28

Actually, I just set up this thread to spam this chick that spurned my advances.

      • Can I add a number to the list?

    • Seriously what could possibly happen?

  • Worked thanks great offer!

  • +2

Can't imagine how 'good' Presto is, when the Australian netflix ain't that great.

6 months free- desperate times still.

    • +1

It has some good stuff on it. I'd still rather have Netflix, Stan and Presto than get pay TV.

      • +3

Isn't Presto owned by Foxtel? I still find that having Netflix + dns changer to be far better than Stan & Presto, unless you want Australian programs and a couple of unique programs.

        • Yes, Presto is owned by Foxtel. Foxtel itself is a joint venture between News Corp (Murdoch) and Telstra. It's definitely a service they'll set up as a "loss leader". They won't mind if it is losing money, as long as it's hurting Netflix.

        • +1

@WalterPPK: Be interesting to see how many people forget to cancel their membership after 6 months. Certainly a loss leader now, with 6 months free Presto.

    • +2

They have a deal with HBO (though it doesn't include Game of Thrones). Free stuff.

  • Thank you this worked for me.

Any idea if we can cancel it before the 6 months is up in order to avoid accidental charge thereafter? Or will cancelling it also cancel access to the service right now?

    • +3

Even if you register today and cancel tomorrow your subscription will be active for 6 months.

Source: did it the last time around.

      • +2

What do you click to do an early cancel but still keep the account active?

Do I click "close my presto account"? Because that seems like it'll completely can the whole thing.

        • Pressing that button won't turn off the tap immediately. It will keep going until the end of the period you've "paid" for. That might be the end of the billing month, or it might be until the end of the free trial - not sure which, since I haven't pressed it.

    • +1

im sure most of us will have a credit card that we will be cancelling within 6 months to avoid annual fee that we input

  • +3

Yeah, I'd set an alarm on your google calendar or something…

    • That's what I did last time.

  • Worked for me, messaged from an optus mobile

  • i got the code error to? don't know why

    • Have you had presto before?

If so, maybe try with a different account and credit card…

      • Nar i don't think so did a new account maybe i'll try again with different email? like i couldn't even get past the selection screen to chose your deal where you enter the code

        • nope still nothing don't know a well

  • +9

Woo hoo! First deal to make it to main page! Posted this on a private uni forum on FB earlier today and was literally chastised that Presto was crap and that we shouldn't be supporting Murdoch. I mean… Without any intention of ever paying for deal after 6 months, we are practically stealing from Murdoch…

    • +2

      Support whoever you want.

    • Yeah. Stick it to the man!
      man = immortal corporate alien

  • Ok, I signed up for 6mo free, now on the content restriction page—why won't it let me unlock R 18+ content? I am over 18…

    • I think you have to enter your pin to access 18+ content. Having said that, I couldn't find any. As I wrote above, True Blood and Evil Dead which are both moat def 18+ in Australia are listed as MA15

  • worked for me, telstra customer. TY OP

  • If they had Apple TV app I would have signed up long ago

    • +2

I understand it supports Airplay with the iPhone/iPad app but I'm on Android so don't know how to test this.

      • +1

yeah I'm sure it does but it's a bit of a pain to use. Stan & Netflix work perfectly through my apple tv

        • +1

You have all my feels but all I got is PS3, PS4, XBOX 360, Wii and WiiU. And it works on precisely none of those things.

They are definitely the least supported option out of Stan, Netflix, Quickflix and Presto.

  • +3

Jumped at this deal last time and cancelled within days.

Couldnt get the app to work on 2 separate Android devices. Either crashed or it was next to useless.

    • -1

Works fine on iOS. Supports Chromecast too. I tried Presto on an Android device (LG G3 Beat), but it didn't support it at the time.

      • This working on my Lgg3 d855 running CloudyG3?

    • They've updated the app it almost works as well at Netflix now.

  • Where can I see when the last day of the bonus offer period is for my account? Can't find it in the account settings.

    • +1

Dunno. Set a Google calendar alert for the first of 28th of April or something?

      • Thing is I was initially gonna subscribe a few months ago so I began the subscription process but didn't go thru with it when I found it it would be metered and I needed to enter my CC. Now I finally went thru the subscription process (Actually they sent me an email reminder to do it last week) and I just wanted to be sure the 6mo begins from today and not a couple mo again when I first tried.

  • Got the code but when I try and register i get an error while applying the code

    • removed the code and applied it again and it worked!

  • Worked great for me on an Exetel number (optus reseller).
The only thing stopping me is that they want my credit card, and won't take PayPal :/

    • +1

Really? That's stopping you? How do you manage to use any service online without a credit card.

      • +1

Bad experiences in the past, it was just a moment of hesitation.

      • I signed up for netflix with paypal

  • +1

Cheers, worked for me. Will go well with my new free Telstra box (rebranded Roku 2).

    • Ah, I saw these in the shops today and was wondering what they'd built them on.

    • +1

      How free ?

      • New inclusion in Telstra bundle.

        • Can existing Telstra broadband customers get Telstra TV for free?

        • +1

@Joe888: Only if you manage to recontract for free and get a bundle that has the same monthly fee as your current one.

  • Thanks OP, worked for me on Telstra prepaid

  • Thanks, I'm with Optus and it worked fine. Great find!

  • Does Presto have subtitles??

  • -2

    Meh, sleepy bitchy comment deleted.

  • Worked without issues! Thanks OP! Worked for Optus. Even though it said in the text must be entered before Aug 2015

    • Just downloaded the app to my TV. Present terribly content is average too. Has stuff Netflix doesn't but it's terribly presented and the app is terribly coded (Slow and sluggish to respond).
