Using XE.com exchange rate ($1 USD : $0.71 AUD), the price comes out to AUD $400.86 shipped (with free shipping). With fluctuations and XE being the base exchange rate, I'd expect the real price you pay to be higher than this, this is just an approximation.

Including the keyboard, the bundle comes out to AUD $472.59.

DHL and EMS for AUD $20.07 and AUD $39.06 respectively (DHL is faster and cheaper option out of two, 3~6 day delivery). This is, if they don't change the shipping price during the promotion.

Review: http://techtablets.com/cube-i7-stylus/review/

The thing that makes this tablet stand out from many of the other competitors (in Windows tablet market) is the fact that it supports wacom EMR technology (i.e. pen that's used in Galaxy Note series, Surface Pro 1 and 2, etc). Also, as it uses Core M, it uses proper SSD, not eMMC, which would make it faster. So it's more like Surface Pro series with less processing power (in my opinion at least) rather than baytrail tablets.

You could grab a dedicated keyboard dock (I have no clue what the price is) and the stylus, seperately. For stylus, I personally recommend getting a cheap Wacom EMR stylus from AliExpress as well. Wacom tend to produce a lot of styluses, so be careful, I'd recommend cheap one like this like this.

It's Aliexpress, so they unfortunately don't take paypal. The seller rating is 3 crowns (score based on people's feedback, it's third highest level in AliExpress system), has been around for 5 year and this is part of AliExpress's 11.11 promotion.

I feel this tablet is a bit disingenuous branding itself using i7 but including a Core M processor… but as long as you understand what you're getting you should be fine. It looks like a pretty decent offering for the price I guess, but I don't know what the market is like.

I do agree with that, I've seen people confusing i7 with i7 CPU from the last deal I've posted of this.

In terms of the market, it has changed a lot since I've last checked so I cannot say for certain, that said, the ones I remember that are comparable to this were usually too expensive (models with stylus support are more expensive than this one other than Vivotab Note 8, which would be hard to find and which uses Baytrail CPU). The newer models I've seen are in north of USD $500 for certain (i.e. Miix 700) and they use active stylus technology that requires battery (Wacom AES technology). Though they do use newer Core M CPU and GPU which I've heard are amazing.

So I think this is the cheapest option you could go for (I might be wrong, but it's highly likely) if you want something with a stylus with little bit more power than Baytrail tablets.

  • Looks like a pretty good option for people looking for something in between the surface 3 and surface pro 3

  • 11.11 deals coming soon. Add it to your wishlist, but only 3000 available…

Normal price is: US $381.32 / piece

Also US$5 coupon available for this item by clicking on store promotion in the vendor's store. http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/10-6-cube-i7-stylus-…

    • Is it the same one? It looks the smae but your link has the i7 with a 4500mAh battery whilst the OPs has a 9000mAh which is consistent with the reviews. Maybe a typo in the listing on AlieExpress?

      • powercfg reports a 4300mAh battery on my unit.

I remember the product materials (and some Chinese reviewers) claiming something along the lines of 'since this tablet has 2x the power draw of Android tablets at 15W, you can think of this tablet having 9000mAh battery'

Yeah Chinese advertising can get desperately funny.

Average runtimes from full to 0 are about 5-6 hours. Mainly web browsing and Onenote (MS Store edition).

        • I think it might be voltage thing, though I am not too sure :S

        • I found that it has a 2X 4500 mah battery, whatever that's supposed to mean…

Is the 2X like 2G or something, i.e. a trademark? In that the G usually means GSM.

I think it is highly likely only 4500 mAH because even the bigger 11.6 inch 128GB model with different specs, only has a 5000 mAH battery.

Although sellers and their customer service teams seem to be misleading and trying to deceive people about what the real specs are… Just use google and you'll see.

      • I clicked through the OP's link then clicked "Preview Now". That's the "Preview Now" link. It should be the same listing but only the vendor knows for sure.

      • Contacted them and this is what they said:

        linda Tang: 4500mAh
9000mAh is for dual OS, it is still reorder. but we have not this,

  • Just for people to note, those 2242 m.2 are a pain in the ass… there's only 2 manufacturers that released them and the largest capacity available is 256GB and I couldn't find anyone in australia stocking them

Found this around $255 AUD delivered using Tmall official freight forwarder (special freight price).

    Quad core versus dual core.

The cube thing doesn't seem like such a great deal.

Also, never use free shipping on a tablet… Sometimes the box is not constructed properly and you're better off using DHL to handle it. You'll also get it faster to dispute anything wrong with it as well… Well worth it. Especially if you end up buying the $400 tablet..

First of all, stylus support. It's hard to find a tablet with stylus support, let alone at this price.

Secondly, Cherry trail vs Core M.
Cherry trail doesn't support SSD (it uses eMMC which is much slower).

The CPU Boss website you've brought up is only comparing the clock speed and the core numbers, instead of actually looking at the performance.
This probably is better in terms of performance comparison. Core M performs better in almost all cases (Even though it's less efficient with battery).
      http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/?d=qa&f=apu_brs_cpu

or if you want something easy to look at,

      Intel Core M-5Y10 @ 0.80GHz vs Intel Atom x7-Z8700 @ 1.60GHz.
Though Atom X7 model is better model than X5 model (in terms of how Intel positioned them).

      • Yeah, looks like it's missing some instructions as well.

    • +1

Lol you can't compare CPU performance across different architectures. Atom x5 may have more physical cores, but its real world performance is far less than that of Core M's 4 virtual cores. Core M is substantially faster than Atom in all workloads, especially gaming since it's got more GPU EUs as well.

Pls don't use CPU Boss for comparing potential performance unless you're comparing products with similar designs (e.g. within the same family/series, or AMD GPUs :p ).

      • Yeah. Going to try find some other comparable item instead to compare it to.

  • Yeah, looks it might be ok, around $550 AUD after keyboard and stylus included and DHL, after discount on 11/11.

Although, it is highly unlikely one would use it for photoshop or anything useful since it is still on the lower end and lags and the stylus appears not to have the same pressure sensitivity as a real wacom tablet.

I think on these lower end tablets, you don't really gain much from paying slightly more. That's why I threw in the cheapest cherry trail tablet (for now, many more apparently coming soon) I could find for comparison.

If you just want to write notes, you can just use a normal capacitative stylus on the other tablets.

The speed difference isn't that much more impressive considering it's double the price.

Surface 3 on Sale is probably the way to go.

Thanks guys, I'll probably wait then. Did my research. I was going to buy one of these cheapo tablets soon. Looks like neither are good enough.

1024 Pressure sensitivity level is pretty much what most of the tablet PCs with Wacom technology comes with (i.e. Surface Pro 1 and 2 had 1024 Pressure Sensitivity Level, so did Note 10.1 2014). If you want something that can run photoshop, you'd need to grab something like Surface Pro 1 or 2 which would still struggle (which is hard to get your hands on anyways, unless you go second hand). 2048 + tilt recognition and other stuff do come with higher models of Wacom tablet PCs, Cintiq companion series, but they go well and beyond $1000. I know this is mentioning a different technology, but n-trig on Surface Pro 4 has 1024 pressure sensitivity as well, Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3 has 256 pressure sensitivity.

As I said, if you want a tablet with a stylus support, it's almost impossible to get something cheaper than this (unless you go into outdated hardware like Note 10.1 (not 2014 Edition, unless you go into second hand market)). I will use your logic and compare Surface 3 to this and the cherry trail tablet. You are paying 4 times as much for Surface 3 (4GB RAM, 128GB Storage model went for $800, I believe?), for something that has slightly better cpu if you look at it from your cherry trail tablet. You are paying 2 times as much if you compare surface 3 to cube i7 stylus, surface 3 has worse pressure sensitivity and slower processor.

I know that benchmarks don't tell the entire story, but Core M CPU has 1.5 times higher score than the high end Cherry Trail CPU (as I've said, the model, x5-z8500, you've brought up is slightly below Intel Atom x7-Z8700).

Writing with a capacitative stylus for is awful at best as well (you cannot touch the screen at all because they don't support palm rejection). It's like trying to write with thinner finger basically. You cannot hover your pointer like you can do with Wacom stylus as well. Not to mention, wacom pens have eraser on back and has a button on the side to use as a right click button.

  • This or something like the Asus T300 Chi which is currently going for ~$850 with the keyboard.

    • Asus T300 Chi has slightly better CPU (5Y71 vs 5Y10) and probably better support, that said, this tablet has a proper stylus support and is much cheaper (not those capacitative stylus, but rather a stylus that does palm rejection and has pressure level sensitivity).

So you should weigh your options accordingly depending on what you want in a tablet you want to buy. The biggest advantage this tablet has to other Chinese tablets is the fact that it uses Core M CPU (which is positioned more like a laptop CPU, more processing power and SSD support) and have a properly stylus support. I personally think goes back to, would you want a Chinese Windows tablet?
