  • Not saying that $500 off is not a bargain, but what's the killer feature(s) that justify it as 3x or more the price of a regular fridge?

    • +2

      but it has triple cooling

    • Agreed. Twenty-odd years ago, that may have been the going price for a good fridge (in real terms), but they are so much cheaper now.

And I will never buy stainless steel finish again - it shows every little dent/scratch and smudge.

    • +2

Care to link a cheaper fridge (or one that is 3x cheaper) of same or near same capacity with filtered water/ice dispenser, draw compartments in the freezer section and the ability to change one of the sections between fridge and freezer?

      • Very quick search: http://www.appliancesonline.com.au/762l-westinghouse-3-door-… $800 cheaper

The only thing it doesn't do is convert a section between fridge and freezer, but are you really likely to use that feature often, especially given you could buy a separate bar fridge with the savings?

        • -1

I agree it's a bit of a silly feature, but Westinghouse is a rubbish brand for whitegoods.

        • @coxymla: Samsung seems to be much worse (at least for fridge/freezers) by most reliability reports.

        • Thats only a 3 door fridge not a 4 door

        • @asa79: Like I said, is that significant enough to justify an extra $800?

        • @CarbonTwelve: different temp zones

      • To be fair I did underestimate the capacity of this monster, but are all of those features necessary? If I had such a huge family that really necessitated that much capacity I would still opt for separate units. A couple of these basic fridges and one of these upright draw freezers would still be a lot cheaper with more capacity.

  • 3k for a fridge, not my cup of tea

    • not my iced beverage!

  • $2,899 in Sydney if you can live without it being in a box

    http://www.buysmarte.com.au/sydney-only-samsung-srf719dls-71…

    • out of stock

  • Amounts to ~20% off the RRP, which is decent, but fairly standard for a high end whitegood if you're prepared to haggle. Ultimately though I don't see the value in a $3k fridge that ultimately doesn't do much more than one that's a lot cheaper.

  • And possiblity of a new replacement fridge after Samsung admits(if at all) the faults of it's wiring or control board.
It took them ages to admit and recall their faulty whitegoods.

Had a similar Samsung fridge 3 years ago costing short of 3k. First year alone lost count on how many service call we made. It was a battle trying to get a refund after a year, so opt in for a replacement. I promptly sold it and lost quite a bit. Bought an Electrolux and still have it without any service yet.

    • I've had my Samsung fridge for two and a quarter years and haven't had any issues, by comparison. It was ~$800 (medium size, white, freezer on top type) with a "digital inverter".

      • mine was a side by side with the dispenser for filtered water + ice maker. 2 Door rather than the 4 on this deal. Still wouldn't buy anything Samsung at that price range.

        • I'm guessing the more fancy things there are, the more parts there are to go wrong. Hopefully mine will last a while yet.

    • Yep same deal here, 2009 Samsung double fridge. PoS. Broken down twice. Previous Kelvinator 15 years not one issue. Was still going when I got the Samsung.

    • Pretty interested to buy a Samsung fridge, with the lowest energy consumption and cheaper then other similar sized fridge, but after some research it seems like most people complain about their Samsung fridge break down or some leak. Samsung came with 10 years warranty on the motor, but according to the sales I spoke too, its not the motor that breaks but other parts, seals, thin shelves, etc.

Currently still using a 10 year old F&P that works perfectly and the sales person says he would buy a F&P over samsung as well as its better built, but more expensive and higher power consumption.

Within this price range, i would rather buy a japanese made fridge.

    • +1

      which brand is japanese?

      • Mitsubishi and sharp, the expensive one are made in Japan.

Mitsubishi also comes with 5 yrs warranty.

Can you buy me a nice tv while you are at it

  • Pricematch at David Jones and use 10% discounted egiftcards from entertainment book or smartdiscounts.com.au etc.. I think DJ's extended warranty is cheaper too

  • These are a much better buy (if you're looking at that sort of money):

    http://www.mitsubishielectric.com.au/refrigerators.htm

    • I did some research a while ago which led me towards purchasing a Mitsubishi fridge. It's only 375 litres, but has three compartments, and I've been happy with it after a few months. Ever so slightly noisy next to my bedroom at night, but not too bad.

From my research, it seemed that the fridges with the R600 refrigerant were the most energy efficient but also the most prone to have technical difficulties. Mine has R134, which is less efficient, but seems to have fewer issues. Also, the online reviews by some people report that some fridges have poor quality trays. Bear in mind that these reviewers probably didn't follow the manufacturer's guide to cleaning the trays appropriately (avoid harsh chemicals).

  • Good fridge with 2 seperate freezer areas that can have different temp settings

  • The Mitsubishi Electric fridges have better features, warranty, quality, quieter, star rating. Hard to find some models but tremendous fridges. $2500-4000. (no, I don't work for them, I just have one).
