Unfortunately it's only going to get worse in the short-medium term. In a couple of years time you'll be saying "I wish the AUD/USD was at $0.72 again"
High 50s/ low 60s yeah
That is debatable.
That is debatable.
While its reasonable to go with the consensus that RBA rates are more likely to go down than up and Fed rates are more likely to go up than down. It's not a given.
TA love your work, but just want to let people know that all of the third party websites on IWTF have a very bad reputation (http://www.productreview.com.au/p/bestjet-com.html). It's always safer to pay a bit extra and book direct from the airline if you want to minimise the risk.
Yeah noticed the same thing myself.
Been looking at flights a lot lately and 99% of the very cheapest prices are from seriously dodgy companies. So, while they're advertised $100 or $200 cheaper than their nearest rival, they may not necessarily be able to deliver on that.
The worst is probably bestjet from what I've read.
Hi Jayc,
I'd like to comment that we have flights from Helloworld, Jetabroad, BYOJet etc that rate well on productreview.
I have not booked a flight myself with Bestjet, but I can say that we have not received any complaints about them (though most people would complain directly to Bestjet rather than us). Again, I have not booked with them myself, but their rating is higher than Webjet, Flight Centre, Student Flights.
I actually had a pretty good experience with bestjet, although certainly enough negative reviews on product review to cause concern.
I had to change a return flight, I was on hold for maybe 2 minutes, the CSR explained that bestjet do charge a fee on top of normal flight change fees, and they dont have access to some of the cheaper fare classes. However they also explained that if I asked the airline in the right way they could help me.
When I rang the airline I did get a better price, but I was on hold for 40 minutes! Would have almost been worth paying the bestjet fee.
If your flights are extremely unlikely to change the cheaper sites are a no brainer, you get your airline reference from bestjet and then forget they even exist. If your flights might change then I recommend booking direct through the airlines website and paying a bit more.
Also Expedia will price match any of the small sites, although they also charge a change booking fee.
How does one go about organising a longer stay in LA on the way back…
You can do a multi stop flight on Qantas.com
New York in Jan/Feb…. Pack warm clothes!
For those backpackers who flee to another continent and come back "some time in the future" - I noticed China Southern Air have one way $800 melb to NY. Any better deals out there? I saw Jetstar can get you to hawaii and then Hawaii to mainland could be done for $600+ or so if you get the right deal.
The China southern flights are not worth the cheaper price. You fly to usa via guang zhou or somewhere around there normally. It almost doubles the flight time to save 400 bucks.
sounds like a bargain to me. $400 in the skyrocket.
I've done overnight stays in malaysia and singapore before, 32-44hour indian train trips and also spent time sleeping in airports and waiting around in queue's. A good book, an internet connection and a power point is all you need really.
Brick freezing
I'm in new york right now, and it's their "fall" season which is equivalent to our winter! So don't assume their winter is going to be like the Australian winter!
Time to change that aussie avatar. (`merican accent on) How's sh%t in NY bro?
Hi Rep IWTF, what's the cheapest way for me to book flight from Sydney to San Francisco (stay 2 weeks) then to NY (stay 2 week), does not matter in which order. Thanks.
Hi lang_tu_syd,
i would suggest trying out the multi-city tool:
http://iwantthatflight.com.au/MultiCity.aspx
that way you can enter the 3 different legs. Then try out different dates, and different orders to see which is the cheapest. Also, when choosing your dates try to make the travel dates fall on the same dates as an existing sale (eg, the sale in this post).
New York Jan/Feb be prepared to freeze and get snowbound
I think we need to rename that site to IDWAMF (I don't want any more flights).
Just joking, top work TA + IWTF.
Wish AUS $ and US $ is 1:1 again, then I will go.
