With the amount of 2nd hand copies of PS2 games going for cheap on eBay I find that there's no real need to go thru the trouble of acquiring a (illegal) modchipped PS2.

Modchips are currently legal here and there are legitimate uses for them, such as playing legally-purchased games from other regions.
The region-locking is something to bear in mind when buying games from fleabay.

You can actually add Linux to the PS2 Slim, according to Wikipedia but really, who'd want to run an OS on the PS2 hardware. It'd be agonisingly slow.

Yeah, it's apparently a marketing scheme that makes no sense that Sony uses, the fat version of the PS2 and PS3 run linux, but the Slim PS2 and PS3 don't. It must be what the Sony company call "innovation".
@[Deactivated]: its actually because the slim versions wont fit the hard drive(in ps2), i had the ps2 with hard drive and network adapter, the slim is just a non feature version that they build when they realise not everyone uses all the features available
You cant go wrong with a ps2, HUGE library of games something for everyone - and at $85 its the cheapest I've ever seen.
And to think eb games we're having some crappy 'pre owned' sale last week and had 2nd hand slims for $77 HA!

I have a PS3 but I still prefer to play games on the PS2 because the games are the right price, controllers are cheap and the games are just as functional. Its only been recent that the game designers stop making games for the PS2, eg. NBA Live 2010.
Actually, is this across all Kmart catalogues? I can't seem to find it in the Brisbane one? (granted I've been awake for half an hour, so may be missing it..)
