    Meh.

The Kogan Atlas is also $369 for those who are after a sleeker, faster machine with a higher clocked N3540. Also has 1080p display.

You can also pick up this HP 250 for $345 via eBAy click and collect deal (and also a 2.5% cashback via Cashrewards) and score a $100 voucher.
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-250-G4-Intel-Celeron-Laptop-15…

And a Dell Inspiron series with a similar spec, on the Dell Outlet usually sells for $279. For $399 you could get a Core i3!

    • Don't forget, the Kogan also has 802.11ac WiFi - A nice bonus

      • The Dell 15" does too, if you look closely. Also note Kogan charges for delivery but Dell does not.

        • Oh true, didn't see that. I'd personally happily pay delivery for that 1080p panel, I'm curious, is it TN or IPS?

        • @deanylev:

          It's a cheap-grade TN panel.

    • The kogan model probably comes with free spyware installed. Lmao

The Atlas is actually made by Clevo, an OEM laptop manufacturer. http://www.clevo.com.tw/ When CPU-Z is run the machine is identified as a Clevo, although the actual model is not known. It could be Kogan's own frankenstein model

The $100 from eBay makes that HP worthy of a deal on its own!

A mate is asking me for a 2nd hand notebook, as we speak.
The one in mind is worth $200 TOPS.
At "effectively" $250, the deal above is a no-brainer. I'm grabbing him the HP instead.
      Thanks for sharing the info!

      • What sort of a peanut negs this without even commenting. LOL.
        Not valid discussion or point.
Man, there are some losers here… nothing to offer community.

    • I am in the same market for a low-end PC, and all roads seem to lead to the Dell outlet.

But how often are the deals there updated?

For two days, the same list of stuff has been there, even though it says stock moves rapidly.

I am thinking that an Inspiron 11 with Core i3 is what I should get, but the vast majority of the laptops currently there are 15.6" suitcases.

(Actually, I should clarify - there are Inspiron 11s that are "refurbished" but I am looking for "As New")

      • Don't buy Inspiron 11, they are not terribly great in terms of build and reliability. Go for a latitude instead. It may cost you an extra hundred or two, but much more worth it in the long run.

        • There seem to be a million different types of Latitude though - the ones in the outlet vary wildly in price and seem to have minor differences in chip, or at least differences that I don't know about without spending another 15 minutes searching every time

Latitude 14 with 5th Generation Intel Core i5-5300U, 128GB SSD, 8GB RAM for 1049 (quite a lot more than I wanted to spend)
          Latitude E6440 Intel Core i5-4210M, 320Gb (7200rpm) dist and 4GB RAM for 799

          … and so on.

Here you go. The Latitudes are divided into different sub-types — and the numbers denote how high end they are. Generally speaking, the 7000 series are the most expensive and are the most premium, as they are ultrabooks, very lightweight and highly sought after as a business device.

Then you have the less expensive models, going from the 3000 (education) series to the 5000 (mainstream business) series. These are not as 'premium' and have lower price tags.

As to how you'd make sense of what you're buying, if the laptop is called the 'Latitude 14 5000' you can easily figure out that it's a 14 inch laptop and it is the mainstream business series. So it'll be cheaper than a 7000 series, but it won't be as lightweight.

Current models (this list is not complete, but it'll give you a general idea)

          Exx40 Models

          E7440: 14" Ultraportable (Core i3/i5/i7)
          E7240: 12.5" Ultraportable (Core i3/i5/i7)
          E6540: 15.6" Mainstream (Core i5/i7)
          E5540: 15.6" Mainstream (Core i3/i5/i7)
          E5440: 14" Mainstream (Core i3/i5/i7)
          E3540: 15.6" Essential (Core i5)
          E3440: 14" Essential (Core i5)

          Previous Models
          Exx30 Models

          E6530: 15.6" Mainstream (Core i5/i7)
          E6430: 14.0" (Core i3/i5/i7)
          E6230: 12.5" (Core i5/i7)
          E3330: 13" Education

  • I remember seeing a N2940 laptop for $359 (with ebay voucher) today. Yeah, many better deals than this currently.

not something I would want but it seems a little cheaper than other refurbs of the same exact model.

    • The funny thing is… this isn't the cheapest price.

The lowest price is $349 fulfilled by Wireless1. and you'd get 2.5% cashback and a voucher if you click / collect.

It's like CSI episode here in comments. Total and complete analysis. You are awesome guys.

  • $369 for a second hand and very slow pc…why bother?

  • Yeah new isn't all that much more and uses less power. Seeing a lot of asus refurbs as of late.
