  Would anyone know how this compare to the 40mm pancake? I have a 100d and am looking for a lense to shoot family (especially babies) and friends.

    40mm pancake doesn't offer the wide angle which 24mm offers.
    If you are looking for a tighter frame, then you can have a look at the Canon 50mm f1.8 STM lens.
    I have the 50mm and just bought this 24mm. Personally I think the 24mm would do the family photo pretty well. For the baby shots, I would definitely take my 50mm, since it offers amazing depth of field.

      3rd gen 50mm nifty fifty can even be used my unsavvy wife to take amazing photos

      It now sits on our 100d 90% of the time
