Breville The Barista Espresso Coffee Machine 2 Litre BES870 $519.20 (Click & Collect) @ TGG eBay

80
CTGG20

Just about the cheapest I've seen these machines - $519.20 Click & Collect. Previously $518.40 through a similar TGG deal.

Routinely $599 or $649. I have noticed Target's website advertises at $499 - http://www.target.com.au/p/breville-bes87-barista-express-es… - but never seem to have any stock and certainly none in store.

A lot of coffee machine for the money.

      I'll second that

        I'll third that 😀

    • Could you elaborate a bit more? I have friends and family who go for the super expensive models, but for the life of me I can't seem to work out (aside from basic functions) why I'd justify spending more.

Has it lasted you awhile? High maintenance? Any issues since you've had it?

Cheers mate. Really keen on giving this one a try.

I got it in the last GG sale, so I've only had it a few months. I am in the same mindset, where I couldn't justify a machine twice the price, but have read good reviews on this machine.

I haven't had to do any maintenance as yet, but it has a lamp which lets you know when to flush it out. I haven't come across any issues either.

Makes really nice coffee. Takes some getting used to with getting the grind right when you change beans, but the result is worlds apart from a pod coffee.

        All-in-all, I have no regrets!

    • i have this but i cant get the grind right

i either make it too fine and it comes out black

or too coarse and it comes out watery

even when i get it right (about a 5 setting) and put less grind and tamper lightly, it will start with an awesome light brown crema but start getting watery soonafter

      • You need to pour a 30ml shot in about 25 seconds.

You adjust the grind to get it to that spot. That's why you move the grind settings around, has nothing to do with crema, colour or watery.

Of course keep your tamp and bean volume the same as that will also affect speed of pour. I like 18 grams for a double shot with a medium tamp.

I'm using a proper machine though, not sure how different these appliances are.

  • Even though this deserves its own post, it's already included in the bes980 post.

  • for those that have this machine,
Is the coffee machine heavy enough so when you're locking in the coffee extractor that the machine won't move or do you have to hold it?

    • From memory, it has little suction cups on the feet. I have never accidentally shifted the machine using it.

  • I recall Choice rating this pretty highly if I recall correctly.

  • Doesn't this become $493.24?

    24% off $649 (cashrewards)

Seems like a great deal =)

  • Fantastic machine, takes a bit of trial and error to get grind and tamp pressure right though. Also you can get it from the breville factory for $380, although it might be a second not sure.

    • I dont mind a refurbished one. Do you know where I can get it in Melbourne at that price?
