  • This one is half price also but more expensive and has only 136 pieces. Does anyone know the difference?

    • +1

IMO more expensive due to having the larger sockets, ie goes to 32mm and 1" in the 1/2 drive sizes.

The one you linked looks better quality for both the tools and the hinged case. The case in the above link doesn't have hinges so it's probably OK if you only use it two or three times a year, the bit of plastic mold will eventually break.

Also looks like it has more useful parts. If you use the kit for home mechanic work, I'd choose the kit you linked because I like to buy things once to last a lifetime.

    • +1

Well they don't list EVERYTHING in the kit. I did a partial comparison. BTW I bought the 132-piece one during a previous special and am very happy with it.

      • As seb says, I have this 136 set in my 4by and its good. Its got bugger all useless bits, so less is more in this case… literally. I got mine when the dollar was higher and these were $149.

Well apart from the imperial stuff, but thats an opinion, and not always right, and given price, its less relevant anyway.

As a fitter and turner who uses hand tools all day long, I can categorically say that apart from doing up the odd hot gal dipped coach bolt when securing sleepers to posts in the garden, imperial tools are useless and a waste of money, so pretty much half the amount of tools in these kits (unless you own a pre mid-70's car, in which case you'd have tools already to fix the old rust bucket).

    • You must be lucky working on newer equipment.

  • +4

No cable ties - no deal.

    • what a deal breaker :(

  • To note, Stanley, a part of Stanley, Black & Decker, no longer afford a lifetime warranty as they did before being Chinese made.
You really are getting what you pay for with this company, as evident in their non willingness you back the quality of workmanship, materials etc beyond 12 months iirc.

    • Hear, hear! I just had a Stanley tape measure fall apart on me. Turns out the part that held the spring was a flimsy piece of plastic weakened further by a screw drilled into one side of it. Designed to fail I'd say.

  • The $20 coupon is no longer valid but the kit is still $119, down from (supposedly) $249 for another few days.
