  • For an exchange is normal price is $34.95, normal price for a purchase is $81.95. So I guess $5 off these prices.

      D'oh. That's expy… I picked my starter bottle with 8.5kg gas for $55 from Bunnings before X'mas.
Guys should shop around for a refill. I've seen some place charge around $20 for 8.5kg

I've always wondered why people use these swap services, rather than just have the bottle refilled.

I had my 9kg bottle filled the other day for $16.90……at the same service station I could have swapped it for $35.

      • Depends how often you need to regas… the bottles have an 'expiry' date after which you need to get them certified - and it costs around the same to get them certified as to buy a new one.

So if you refill often, it's cheaper, but if you swap only once every 3 years like me, it can save having to buy a new bottle. Perhaps refill and keep an eye on the expiry on the bottle and then swap when close to expiry!

        • With the SWAP N Go service, you can swap any bottle (which is still in date) with a prefilled bottle. So if you own a generic bottle, you can have it refilled at the cheaper rate through out its life span, and as it gets closer to the exp. date you can swap it, and get a newer bottle. Any brand/colour etc as long as it hasn't expired or is "badly" rusted.

Even if you own a "swap" bottle, you can have it "refilled" (as apposed to swapped), and as it nears the end of its life, you can swap it again.

Crazy to pay double the price if you have a local convenient re filler. The best of both worlds.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, for people if like to swap at Coles, this $5 discount is money on the pocket, and well worth the submission! :)

@ash2000: This isn't correct for Kwik-Gas, you can in fact swap an out of date cylinder as long as it in good condition (and at Bunnings they don't even check the condition). I swapped out a 1998 cylinder (I year out of date) for a brand new Sept 2009 cylinder for 27.95 total. So that's a brand new cylinder and 8.5 KG of gas.

Don't why you would go to Coles/Shell when Bunnings is cheaper without a discount, but having said that I'll be getting mine refilled (with 9KG) for $17 odd bucks next time.

            • With Kwik-Gas, your 'out of test date' cylinders are accepted at no additional cost, subject to them being in an acceptable condition.
            • @BlinkyBill: OK, I had read of people picking up expired cylinders for free at local council refuse stations, and then swapping them….but I didn't which company swapped them……so there are plenty of options out there.

  • Thanks for the find but not a bargain for me.

My local bunnings offer swap rather than refill and this is still cheaper than service stations (even after $5 discount).

      Thanks for the thanks :)

Yep agree, Bunnings are usually cheaper, but for ppl who have no Bunnings, or who run out of gas mid-bbq, it may be that a Coles Express is closer and quicker, can't upset the bbq guests!

      • Bunnings will deliver you a new "swap bottle" for $32.50 (selected metro areas), you just pay by CC online.

        • But Bunnings wont give you FlyBuys !!!! :O

  • $14.95 at my local servo for a refill about 1km from the Coles Express

It's all convenience and speed folks. What's 1/2 an hour worth to you?

I used to have my own bottles, but the frustration isnt worth the savings.
Everyone is preaching Bunnings, but have you ever tried to find a salesperson who is able to fill your bottle or have the key to open cage for swap? Lugging around the bottle, waiting for the 'right' person to help, then waiting in line at the checkout (which is always busy). Not to mention trying to park anywhere close to the entrance and carting your full bottle back to the car- which is now boiling hot because its been sitting in the sun for 1/2 an hour.

Nup. Kwik-Gas is the go. I'd rather pay a little extra and have the ability to get in and get out in like 2min.
You can park the car right next to the cage, and there's no waiting around for some pimple faced kid to work out how the valve works or how to avoid freezing the tip and causing damage to your cylinder.

And by the way, getting a gas bottle resealed after it's let go costs $60… a little more at busy times. Not worth it at all.

Once you go Kwik-Gas, you'll never go back to stuffing around with your own tank.

I actually have two bottles in circulation, but most only have one. And have a guess when most people realise they are out of gas? Either when starting the bbq, or half way through :).

I want a quick and easy swap- not a stuff around waiting to refill. My guests are waiting :).
