Yamaha Home Theatre System 500W 5.1 YHT-2910 BT $529 at The Good Guys

110

Came across this deal while searching for a small surround setup which had a separate receiver. This is the BT model which basically includes the Yamaha Bluetooth Module valued at $149 free as part of the pack. Picked it up today and I gotta say pretty good for $529. Pretty decent receiver included for the money with which you can easily upgrade speakers later on.

What would these be like compared to, say, a set of z5500's?

    • If you're after clarity and cleaner sound then I'd definitely say the Yamaha over the logitech. The z5500s tend to be muffled and have overpowering lows compared to Yamaha's balanced mids and highs. I don't think the z5500s were intended for home theatre use.

    • The internet is full with this question, with no real answer! Logitech…Why?!
$290 delivered, in 2011… and still nothing close to it. What kills me more, I bought it for Dad - Never got one, myself.

  • Looks pretty good. Was the BT device chucked in as an extra or sold together? Google doesn't really come up with this package that's all

    • The BT module is pretty much just thrown in as an extra within the box and they just slap a sticker on saying it's included. Base your google searches only on YHT-2910.

  • on the Good guy's website it shows 600W output, can someone advise the output…… thanks

    • I'd say 500w output on the receiver and 100w output on the Subwoofer making it a total of 600w

      • Ignore Good Guys figure. Here's your specs direct from Yamaha http://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-visual/hometheater-sy…

Good guys just giving rough total output (ie useless).

        100w for the centre channel = 100w
        135w for the sub = 135w
70w for each of the four surround speakers = 280w

        That's roughly 500w… not 600w.

And just looking at the THD% on each of those channels, this is not exactly a great amp btw (nor would it be expected for this price).
Dont get me wrong, I love Yamaha gear (I have a nice Yamaha amp at home). But I'd suggest people spend just a little more and knock down the THD% to at least 1 more decimal point, because the figures on this amp are very high.

Good Guys Hobart just did $500 for me on this, just asking if they could take a little off.

        • @xitrapharlax: How is it?
Is it a mess of wires all around.

        • @yourpalcliffy:

Couldn't say as I haven't set it up yet.

          @xitrapharlax:
I've set mine up and just cut the wires to my required length. I've put all mine up front for now as I'm moving places in a few weeks and enabled "virtual cinema front" function. The wires are connected by spring loaded lugs so there's no plugs to worry about. Easy to just cut wires to length.

  • Can anyone comment on the quality of this? I had a look instore at them and picked the speakers up and they seem quite light, I rathe something that is heavy and sturdy? Are the speakers OK for a smaller room, ie 5m x 5m ? Looks like the amp is quite good? Or would it be better just to get the YHT-1810 for 447 - 20% on ebay ($357)? I think they are the same speakers, just a different amp? Dunno if I could justify more for the BT receiver in the 2910.
