  • So I see comments about these cheaper boxes only running Netflix at 720p, or perhaps that is only via the app and running through the browser would be 1080p?

But there are a whole slew of news articles about Android 4.3 allowing Netflix to run at 1080p and with some better sound options too, can anyone confirm exactly how this works?

    • +1

Netflix has to approve the devices themselves to allow it to run in HD.

      • Yeah so its not even 720p. This it what's holding me back from buying one of these cheap boxes

        • The only company with these cheap boxes that I know have been approved is WeTek. They probably have to pay for the license.

        • @Clear: I thought that was because they found some loophole

        • @stumo: They probably did. I'm only guessing.

  • Can I rum XBMC as 1080p full hd with this device, thanks,

    • +1

No. The stock firmware renders at 720p only. So if you have 1080p out, it is upscaled.
So it's not much use that it can decode 4k videos.

Check the forums. There are a number of problems with this device. Not recommended.

Somebody may have a half-decent ROM by now??

  • everbuying = gearbest - expect lengthy delays in order processing / delivery

    • And terrible response if it goes missing or breaks. Warranty is worthless.

      • Gearbest + warranty. I actually had a media player that turned up DOA in sept. I lodged a complaint with Gearbest and they sent a replacement which arrived last week.
