I was looking for a portable SSD drive and saw the Samsung one at JB HiFi for $199. I have not found it cheaper yet.

Can you please show me one for around $20 that will be nice and fast with my Mac mini? I want to load the OS onto it. Thanks I'm new to this haha
Any of these should work fine.
I personally bought this a year ago:
http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Drive-External-Enclosure-9-5mm/d…This one supports UASP which is recommended to get higher speed from SSD's http://www.mwave.com.au/product/vantec-nst266s3bk-nexstar-6g…
Thank you all
The Samsung portable SSD's are a fair bit smaller than a normal 2.5" drive SSD. Pretty impressive.
Samsung SSD T1 = 71x53x9mm
Standard USB3 Enclosure = 135x85x9mmSmaller yes but a standard USB3 enclosure isn't massive either. I assume the Samsungs are faster though right? Either way I'd rather save the cash and DIY one but of course each to their own.
You can also buy an mSATA USB3 enclosure for really cheap… much, much smaller
any link pls? dont know much about the enclosures.
I don't know how fast an SSD is, but these T1 things can copy a 2GB movie in about 8 seconds from what I've seen on YouTube.. Incredible.
I've got one of these. They are quite fast. It is essentially a Samsung 850 msata in an enclosure. You can get pretty much the same thing by purchasing an msata with a good external msata enclosure, only, you will lose the security feature this drive has. $199 Is an okay price for local stock. i purchased this from Amazon for about $140 delivered a few weeks ago.
$140 USD is almost exactly $199. Or did you mean $140 AUD?
I meant $140 AUD. It was about 99 USD
Umart has a USB one for m2 ssd for like $30
500GB version was $270 on ebay yesterday. not that that helps. i considered getting one but i'd say they have even more potential for price drops in the near future than internal SSDs.
Damn i though it said 1T SSD
same
$1 cheaper if you can be bothered dealing with Harvey Norman.
http://www.harveynorman.com.au/computers-tablets/networking-…Can you use the $25 voucher they give for signing up to their mailing list?
Yes you can
Was looking at the 256gb PNY USB 3.0 stick. Not quite as quick as the SSD but convenient for backing up the MacBook Air while travel. Was using the 128gb PNY on a recent trip.
What's the reason to buy a portable USB SSD? Since it's USB wouldn't it be slightly faster than a regular USB HDD?
With all the SSD deals now, it's cheaper to get a good USB3.0 enclosure for about $20 shipped from Amazon and buy an SSD separately. Save $50+
