        • Sorry, I missed your reply! My usually connection speed is around 12.5mb/s whereas over the vpn I get 5

  • Surely geo-blocking will soon be forgotten, when we're more focused on defending atolls and searching for Dryland?

  • -5

I just use Hola for free, never had an issue

    • +8

Hopefully you know the "price" you're paying for using Hola?

    • +2

I'd be wary of using Hola. Not really secure, and opens you up to (potentially) have your bandwidth taken advantage of.
      https://torrentfreak.com/hola-vpn-sells-users-bandwidth-1505…
      https://torrentfreak.com/hola-vpn-already-exploited-by-bad-g…

      • +1

I close it every time Im not using it, so I hope that works around the bandwidth problem. I do have unlimited internet though.

        • +2

Bandwidth is the least of the problems with Hola

        • Whenever your browser is open, Hola could be reselling your bandwidth to any dubious character that they like. Your internet connection could be used for absolutely anything (not just browsing, your computer becomes an exit node for VPN). Whether it's off in your toolbar doesn't necessarily stop incoming traffic, it just stops routing your personal outgoing traffic. Disabling the extension in your settings after every use would probably work but that's a real pain and doesn't help with the fact that there's already serious security vulnerabilities in Hola.

        • @dazweeja @scubacoles: Sorry I don't really get it, when you mean "reselling" bandwith does that mean other users will appear to be using my internet connection? Also the article linked talked about downloading and running software without the user's consent through Hola, is that actually possible? (And by extension, why the heck would Google continue to allow that on the Chrome Store with so many vulnerabilities).

        • @Astro551: Yes, it is seriously malicious. Get rid of it ASAP.

      • I use a VPN called dotvpn chrome add on..i watch most sites in the USA of A

This seems crazy cheap considering a yearly sub normally goes for around $30…what's the catch (besides the minor update thing)?

    • I agree. What's the difference between this sub and regular sub (aside from price…)

    • Yeah it's setting off alarms for me too.

      • Maybe going bust! who'd be bothered chasing some internet bizz if they did?

    • I guess I'm wondering the same thing :D

    • +2

What if they've found out that Netflix that geo-unblocking services will stop working soon, and are getting as much money as they can before it happens?

      • +1

They still do VPN though.. and No one is going to be able to stop VPNs from accessing Netflix.

        • Good luck to their VPN servers handling all the netflix traffic, it will be unusable for most people I imagine.

    • +1

I don't know how many users they have, but if significant portion say 80% of memberships took up this deal, they won't have any incentive to get their servers up asap, if they go down.

Perhaps this deal was just a marketing gimmick and they're looking to on sell other services.

  • hey people in the know, this a substitute for Torguard?

    • yes it can be
you need to download a program called OpenVPN
I havent looked into it yet but read some good things about Getflix vpn on whirlpool.
Hopefully ill be able to set it up with Vuze like i have with Torguard to shutdown if the vpn link goes down

you can read more on setting up getflix vpn here. Not sure if it is as user friendly as torguard but it is a heck alot cheaper

I enquired with Getflix what the 10 computer limit refers to, they said it's 10 computers/smart TV's/consoles connecting to the Getflix DNS servers behind a single router.

    • +1

Not sure how they could police that…
Especially given they'd have to hit the DNS within a certain narrow time period, which seems highly unlikely.

    • How?? There is no software and the IP's behind the router would be internal

    • So 10 simultaneous connections? What happens if you have 11? Doesn't really make sense.

    • +1

Guys, I'm just passing on what Getflix told me… I don't know how they police it. Theoretically they could just log how many connections are being received from your public IP.

Since Netflix only allows 4 simultaneous streams at once you would pretty much need to max out every single streaming service for them to even flag you.

      • +3

Guys, I'm just passing on what Getflix told me… I don't know how they police it

Thanks for contacting them. Much appreciated. We are probably making much of nothing.

  • Will this work with steaming US netflix to a chromecast? I suck at networking and this looks like a viable solution.

    • +1

If you block Google DNS in your router, then yes. That's what I use Getflix for.

      • Hi scuba, I thought chromecast would only act like a bridge between your casting device (android tablet in my case) and the TV, so as long as I can get the geoblocked content onto my tab with getflix , I can stream said content to my chromecast. Am I right or the dns blocking is still required? Thanks for your help. I'm a noob at these things.

        • No, the Chromecast streams content direct from the internet. The app just tells it what content to fetch and acts as a remote. Easy to test - just start playing something and then put your phone into airplane mode, content keeps playing. So DNS unblocking is still required - even more so because the Chromecast is hard-coded to use Google DNS.

        • Depends how you cast. If you screen share, then you're right. But if you use apps, then you're not and dazweeja is right.

  • Hi guys, I'm currently using uflix and it works just fine. Whats the difference between uflix and getflix? Do they have more region than uflix? I tried to google their region lists, couldnt find it.

    • They have maybe a dozen regions? Much better than just Aus and US…

      • +2

        Getflix Regions:

        • Netflix

          • Argentina
          • Australia
          • Austria
          • Belgium
          • Brazil
          • Canada
          • Chile
          • Costa Rica
          • Denmark
          • Finland
          • France
          • Germany
          • Ireland
          • Japan
          • Mexico
          • Netherlands
          • New Zealand
          • Norway
          • Panama
          • Sweden
          • Switzerland
          • United Kingdom
          • United States

        • Amazon Prime

          • US
          • Germany
          • UK

Then there are a whole bunch of other regions you can select for TV channels and other services.

  • Purchased, thank you.

Can watch US netflix and BBC iPlayer (for MOTD), no hassles at all on my LG webOS tv. Don't even need to mess around with the router.

Bit concerned as to why its so cheap for a lifetime subscription, but that's the risk we take eh.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, used referrer link.

    • Thanks God bless you and I hope you enjoy your subscription!

  • Total VPN/Getflix newbie so please be gentle.

If i get this, will i be able to use it as a VPN (which i understand blocks my details from being seen by govts and other nefarious people?) and therefore hide torrents if by some error i were to accidentally download one?

Does setting up require added computer skills? (i notice comments about router setups etc?)

Apart from the "lifetime" being questionable… if they were to fall over in 3 years, would this harm affect my general computer usage?

    Thanks

    • +1

"If i get this, will i be able to use it as a VPN (which i understand blocks my details from being seen by govts and other nefarious people?) and therefore hide torrents if by some error i were to accidentally download one?"

      Yes

"Does setting up require added computer skills? (i notice comments about router setups etc?)"

Nothing that a bit of 'Googling' can't overcome. ;)

"Apart from the "lifetime" being questionable… if they were to fall over in 3 years, would this harm affect my general computer usage?"

      No

    • +1

      Torrents - Yes
Computer Skills - pretty minimal and they supply guides
Harm - some risk that they could inject ads or worse, but they've been around for a while now and no complaints on that front.

  • +1

Worth noting that their app (Android & iOS) is pretty good. Very easy to update an IP address or switch regions for Netflix etc.

  • +1

Bought this and used OPs referral link too. Thanks. :)

    • Thanks God bless you and I hope you enjoy your subscription!

  • +3

    thanks

Now to remember to come back in 2046 looking for another promo code for getflix ;)

    • Lol

  • +1

Thx OP, used your ref link. I have 11194 days till I have to think about it again.

    • Lol again…

  • +1

Purchased! Excellent deal considering one year is $30USD. For an extra $5USD you get 30 x the deal.
Was using Uflix but was experiencing DNS issues. Getflix seems to be more stable.

  • Really interested in purchasing this but I seriously have no idea when it comes to computer stuff. Will this let me watch netflix or do I have to subscribe to Netflix aswell as this? Any chance of being able to watch the rugby World Cup live? Is it hard to set up? No idea what this dns vpn business is lol. Is anyone able to explain it to me in really simple terms?

    • +2

Will this let me watch netflix or do I have to subscribe to Netflix aswell as this?

You need to subscribe to Netflix. By accessing Netflix without using Getflix, you only have access to 1,772 movies/tv shows.

If you access it using Getflix and setting your region to US, you have access to 6,847 titles. Different regions can have different movies/tv shows. E.G. Only the US has the TV show The West Wing. The UK may have different stuff. Regions can be switched by logging into Getflix but usually just staying on US is the easiest.

See here for the numbers on regions and what's available on which country.

No idea what this dns vpn business is lol.

Forget about the VPN. That isn't needed for watching movies/tv. All you have to do is change 1 setting on your computer or router. Very simple.

Not sure about the World Cup. I know NZ has a service (fanpass.co.nz) which may work.

  • What is the best valued US TV subscription package?

    • +1

Depends on what you want to watch. If you can deal with ads in your shows, Hulu is a good choice. You can buy 1 year subscriptions for about $40 on eBay.

      I have:

      • Hulu now offers an ad-free tier subscription for $11.99 (US) / month

        • I have no idea how my 1 year sub will convert to a plan change as it just says:

Your Hulu Subscription will auto-renew on July 11th, 2017

I don't mind the ads too much (and I'm too tight to pay more) except for the fact that they also freeze and buffer.

  • So do Stacksocial send a promo code to enter into Getflix "subscriptions" or does it redirect??

Just cancelled my current subscription with 1 month to go to get this and want to check before I buy.

    • You need to sign up for newsletter then check inbox. Code will be in the email.

    • Yes, you get a promo code. Cancel sub, then go to the promo code tab and enter in there.

      • Hi Neil,

I just bought the 30 year sub and had to cancel my credit card subscription in order to enter the promotion code. Now when applying the stacksocial promotion code, it says this code can only be applied to trial or new account. I noticed my subscription is still valid for another several months till May 2016. Should I create a new account? How long will the stacksocial code be valid for?

        Thanks

        • When the deal first started in September, you were able to use your existing account. They changed that so now you have to create a new account.

Create a new account, put in the code and you'll be all set for 30 years.

        • Thanks Neil for your clarification.

    • No need to cancel your sub. Just go to Manage -> Subscription -> Promo Code in Getflix and enter the promo code that StackSocial gives you. It stacks on top of your existing license. Just did it myself.

      • I had to. Couldn't enter a promo code without it (I had an annual credit card sub I believe). It isn't a big deal to cancel as the existing time left in your sub will just be added to this one.

        • Oh, so it still stacks but you had to cancel the recurring billing part? That's cool then.

        • +1

          @dazweeja:

Yeah, cancel subscription really means cancel reoccurring billing/direct debit.

  • Thanks fozzie and neil

Yeah signed up and got the 10%off promo code and got the discount. Stacksocial redirects to paypal to pay and they send another promo code to enter in the tab which gives the 30 years? Sorry if repeating.

EDIT Sorry neil. Actually read your comment properly and all done. Thanks

  • Hi guys, I saw a few comments mentioning the need to block google dns on your router to enable streaming to a chromecast. I thought chromecast would only act like a bridge between your casting device (android tablet in my case) and the TV, so as long as I can get the geoblocked content onto my tab with getflix , I can stream said content to my chromecast. Am I right or the dns blocking is still required?

Also do the Netflix app for Android automatically adjusts with the use of getflix or I have to fiddle with the app side of things too? Thanks so much for any help as I'm a noob at these

    • +3

Your phone and Chromecast are not a bridge per se, they are 2 separate entities. It's more like calling up your friend and telling him to turn on Channel 7. E.G. You can cast a stream to the Chromecast from your phone and then turn off your phone.

      Getflix Support

      • Thanks for your reply. So I can cast from my phone to chromecast without doing the dns blocking. Cool now I'd better set up the free unblocktv to have a good grasp on how all these work before committing to the deal =D

        • I'm not entirely sure about Netflix but with Hulu you definitely need to block Google's DNS. Getflix is telling you to do the same.

Try it out. If it throws an error then you need to block Google's DNS server per their instructions.

        • +1

You can't access any geoblocked services on Chromecast unless you block Google DNS or have a router that intercepts all DNS queries on your network (most routers don't).

  • Does anyone else have issues watching Vudu movies on GetFlix? I just get a #5000 error… Getflix support were unable to replicate or fix.

    • No problems with VUDU here, either via a WDTV or OPPO Blu-Ray player.

  • What a great offer!

As others have mentioned, you do NOT have to set up a new Getflix membership if you already have one (but you will have to cancel your PayPal arrangement with them first via the PayPal site). Just go to the StackSocial site (when the popup screen appears to get 10% off by typing your email address - do that) and then buy the subscription applying the 10% off code that should be in your inbox within seconds.

Once you made the purchase you will get a Getflix serial number that you simply type into the Promo Code field in your Gerflix user panel (under the Subscription menu).

  • +1

thanks op, used ref link. this deal is going to be great for you at $10 each purchase…

  • So this is random….what happens when you get a new router/modem or new ISP?

    sorry, I'm a massive n00b with tv/router stuff.

also, i have an apple tv so I'm assuming this is fine.

    • +1

Will still work. As long as the ISP gives you a router which allows you to change the dns which is most routers. Downside is that with telstra the supplied modem allows only one dns server and not two. If the dns server fails then your net goes down.

      • Thankyou. I will keep that in mind!

  • Has anyone jumped from UnoTelly to Getflix? Love to know your experience.

    • +1

I did, the quality of service is similar. So no worries.

  • Hi, Sorry I am new to this and hoping to get some help.

Do people change DNS settings every time they need to watch US shows and then change to AU shows? Is there an easy way to do this - I have an ASUS RT66 router.

    Thanks

    • You can do straight from app (I just checked on iPhone). I am assuming you can also change on website. On app gives all different options for different services (for example whether Amazon should be uk or us, etc)

  • -3

I feel like this is unnecessary since Netflix wouldn't be unmetered if I did this and I don't have unlimited obviously.

    • +3

Many of us don't have unmetered… We use the Australian Netflix as much as we can but when there are shows/movies available on other regions we switch temporarily to be able to watch whatever we want. At the end of the month my use of metered Netflix is insignificant.

Services that help finding out whats available in each region:
      http://www.flixlist.com.au/
      https://flixsearch.io/

  • +3

Thanks OP, I finally purchased after dwelling for a while. Am I the only pessimist who thinks Getflix is about to shut down or something.

  • Could any one inform me if the $39 Getflix Lifetime subscription is compatible with Windows 8.1. Tried to contact Getflix but no result . Would appreciate any advice given, as only a Basic PC user. ( Ink well & nib era at school )

  • Thanks Frozzie, much appreciated

  • If you sign up for free trial —- would the $39 US deal be still available when the trial expires ??

    • +1

No, deal expires in about 3 days. Just use trial to test for a day or so and then buy if you want to.

  • Does anyone know how to set up Telstra gateway? Thanks

    • Which Gateway exactly?

Configuring our DNS Servers on your Router

If that ^ doesn't help then their support can always sort you out :-)

      Note:

      Unsupported Routers

Some routers supplied by ISPs have the advanced settings removed that are required to make these changes. This is a list of known devices that are not supported:
      * Optus Netgear Wireless Cable Voice Gateway CG3000
      * Telstra Netgear Wireless Cable Gateway CG3100

If your model is the above one:
      A) Get a better modem/router
      OR
      B) You'll have to configure each device individually - https://www.getflix.com.au/setup/overview

      • Thanks ory_zm I will check when I go home it's a netgear I know that. It would be better than fiddling with each single device each time :)

Now I just them to add Italy as Netflix is due there in a few days.

        • Too easy :-)
          How did you go?

  • +1

    Thanks OP

    Just signed up :)
