Erm… is "…from US $0.10 (~AU $14)" an attempt at humour, or an error?

    • +1

      Thanks Updated :-)

      • I had a chuckle… the way we're going it might be just a matter of time; the $AU dipped well below 70 US cents today…

        • +2

I thought that was just the standard Australian tax!

    • +1

I recall these arent compliant with australian standards hence never for sale by mainstream australian retailers and are usually bundled nby asian suppliers when they ship thhings with US or EU powerpacks.

  • +16

Don't even bother with this crap! Pins are thin and don't hold well in a standard wall socket.

    • +4

      Starting to become OzBargearbest again…
Aside from all the usual issues with them, is a 10c adapter worth your equipment (or life)?

    • +1

Thanks for review. Saved me money, time, and annoyance. Priceless!

Don't worry you prolly won't get the item anyway

      • +1

Don't worry you prolly won't get the item anyway

Then one would get a refund via PayPal.

If one wanted to be more confident of delivery (and in a shorter time) - it would be better to buy via eBay.

        • +3

          Indeed. Lesson learnt

      • Thanks heaps Mr/Mrs Jones - I thought it was my orders only getting stuffed from them, raising paypal dispute for the VR as well

        • No worries. The more exposure that topic gets the mire people know that are not alone!!!!

  • +1

Will probably get them after you come back from your holiday.

  • Any for China?

    • Any for China?

Huh? China uses the same type of socket as Australia.

Hotel rooms should have both AU Type 220v and USA Type 110v sockets in bathrooms. In the room itself there should be the AU 220v type.

      • The Chinese plugs are different.
        They are two vertical endpoints.

        • +1

          The Chinese plugs are different.
          They are two vertical endpoints.

That is the USA style plug - it fits the USA Type Sockets that are also used in China.

Officially they use the same style/shape as Australia, but at 220v.

In practice, outside of hotel bathrooms, they often have both the two flat pin type (as used in the USA and Japan) and the AU three pin type. Both at 220v.

        • Nope chinese standard plug is the same configuration as the Australian plug, but their pins are ~1mm longer (which shouldn't make a difference)

          http://www.worldstandards.eu/electricity/plugs-and-sockets/i…

        • They use both types.

  • +3

These are the worst and considered a hazard, I wouldn't use them even if someone paid me to.

    AVOID!

  • +2

Cheap and nasty. I have encountered both types and they are just plain dangerous

  • +1

I have used similar adaptors in Thailand (3 pin Oz into 2 pin Thai) numerous times without a problem.

    • Yeah ditto..lots of scare mongering.

      • +2

No it's not scare mongering. If a device is meant to be earthed and isn't it becomes a shock hazard. By it not having a path to earth, there's a chance that you will become that path.

Having received the same style of adapters on electronics ordered from overseas, I know how flimsy and dangerous they are even if you are only plugging a 2 pin plug into them. The best place for these are the bin.

        • why is the aussie one doesnt have earth? Is the earth at the front wired to the minus/neutral?

    • +2

Hilarious - negged for reporting a factual situation.

Ya' couldn't make it up. :)

      • Hilarious - negged for reporting a factual situation.

Could well have been in error. Lots of users are on smart phones and it is easy to hit the wrong symbol as they are so close together.

Don't worry, we can make it up to you.

  • +5

These guys should be banned 4/5 items i ordered through them never received, very dodgy

    • +2

Agree, gearbest should be banned. Way to many problems, and users like monty.melb just spamming their things all the time lately.

  • +3

Sorry MM, not your post, put Store and the product, this can cause serious injuries and the store seems like a fraud

  • +1

I've been using this one (http://www.gearbest.com/samsung-cables-adapters/pp_241347.ht…) for years. No issues at all

    • +1

I've been using this one for years. No issues at all

Only real safety problem with that one is the lack of the required insulation on the pins. I take it that you have no small children, and that no small children visit?

It can be purchased for less, including delivery, via eBay. AU$1 delivered against this seller's price of AU$1.40

      • Correct, no kids…. Yet….
        :)

  • +2

I bought two EU adapters (like the 0.99$ one) from gearbest and took them to my overseas trip. They are sturdy and work well.

  • +3

Agree with those negative comments. I got sent two, used one of them, the pin is loose and has caused loss of power to my device.

  • +3

Considering that these could potentially be hazardous to those using it, the previously mentioned issues regarding the delayed delivery or non-delivery of gearbest items, and their lack of compliance with Australian standards, I'm left with no option but to downvote this particular post.

  • +3

Make sure your house have fire insurance.

  • +2

Not only dangerous, will also take 4 months to arrive, if at all. Gearbest should not be promoted on OzBargain until they get their act together.

  • +1

Four out of the seven items posted as bargains can be purchased for less elsewhere - with better delivery times.

Therefore I am voting 'negative' on this bargain post.

  • +1

I have GB wallet credit on my account from previous refund, is now down 10 cents since I ordered. Will assess the quality when it arrives, not a deal-breaker.. Chill people - is not a high-tech item and only 10 cents… I'll wear it :-)

    • +1

It's not about it breaking, it's about your house catching fire.

      • -1

As said, will evaluate when arrives. Risk of fire is only if mechanically unstable, it shorts out. Technically this thing is as simple as it gets..

  • +5

Unsafe….not worth the risk. buy Aus std approved ones like Korjo from dickie smith.

  • I had one of these overheat and melt. Was very scary. Avoid at all costs.
