    oh hello…

  • Is it a touch screen ?

    • I don't believe this unit is touch.
Though i'll get the warehouse to check tomorrow morning and get back to you on that.

      • thanks…

        • Confirmed with warehouse that unit is not touch.

        • +1

          @MegaBuy:

Ok, I "no touch" this deal then…

          Thanks anyway…

        • +1

@jv: Hahaha that's alright :) I see if I can dig up a deal on touch laptops just for you!

  • skylake notebooks are coming soon…better to wait imho

    • what are the improvements ?

    • coming? already out. Dell already has the new Inspiron 15 7000 with it.

    • Why? Skylake is notable for being a pretty unexciting step up for many users.

      • As previously mentioned. Units with such configurations will be starting at $2000+ for a Skylake equivalent

  • +1

This is my kind of laptop, but for $1500 I'll wait for skylake laptops.

  • Skylake will be great when it arrives, though if I was to estimate prices for something similar I would be expecting close to $600 extra for first releases as they will be supporting DDR4 memory and costs of manufacturing for this "new" technology is still quite high.

    • That's pure biast speculation to coherce people
      To buy this thing.

The fact u expect people to pay this much without a ssd is laughable.

      • For most the cost of a 2TB SSD is unreasonable. Many have practical uses for a large mechanical HDD of that size. Yes HDDs are not as fast but the cost/GB hits the spot still and many still stick with it for that reason.

        • 2 hhds. 1 msata ssd 512gb and then a 2tb

          The envy 17 has a 1tb ssd and a 4tb hhd

        • @T1OOO: Yeah sure, however this isn't a 15" laptop and the difference in size is huge. Envy 17 prices on amazon alone are $2899 which is double what you would pay for this laptop. Sure, maybe this unit isn't for you. But there are TONS of users that will fit the need for this laptop.

      • Regardless of whether it is value or not to you, it's the cheapest.

Also, I'd speculate the same with Skylake. Have you seen DDR4 pricing? People are being gouged. I specifically went with a DDR3 motherboard because I wasn't going to pay alot more for a DDR4 platform with no real world performance improvement.

  • How much is saving a few bucks really worth?

People are still having trouble with them and their other dodgy companies…

Seriously.. Every deal we post you come along and copy and paste the same stuff on here.
We get it, you're upset and you had a bad experience with our company, and I'm sorry that happened.
And you can post all the feedback pages you want, because if customers feel like we are ripping them off or we are "dodgy" you are more than welcome to have stock arranged for pickup at our Chermside store.

Doing a further bit of digging I've found you have been posting very similar posts to our deals for almost 2 years now.. From my understanding of OzBargains the idea is for Reps and fellow OzBarginers to comment and share Bargains online so others can also share in this deals. However what you are doing is completely opposite to what the community promotes and simply promotes your negative attitude you have towards our company and at no time do you actually mention the deal!
And.. To add to all of this I believe you have also been down voting a deals simply based off the fact that you have hate towards our company, which I would assume would be unfair or misleading use of the voting system?

As both an employee and outsider looking at this situation I feel the way you use the voting system in particular is unfair and unjust as it provides customers inaccurate representation of the deal that is simply untrue and is based off hate.

And I know when this gets posted, you'll simply tear it apart section by section and basically write a evaluation of my post or you will bring up some quote from the past or off another website and simply down vote our next deal and repeat the process. One of the terms our rep 'sammit' used, "troll" was quite accurate in this instance as this would be the very definition of the word.

        Hmmm.
All I can say is that I have purchased multiple times from Megabuy for my company without issue.

      • If only we could post memes I'd so post a Kelso/Burn meme, well done Rep!

      • +1

I understand the OP's position on this, as it sounds as if there's lots of history here. That said, I don't see any issue with people alerting others to feedback/reviews from other customers? After all, word of mouth is the best form of advertising out there.

That Productreview rating is quite scathing.

In saying all this, I have bought from Megabuy before and received the item without issue.

        Hi there awesome sauce,

I can see how, as someone who's paid buy this company, you could get frustrated reading the considerable amount of negative feedback out there. I did once have a bad experience with megabuy, wasn't happy with the outcome and submitted a report to Fair Trading. That was a long time ago, I'm not upset and please try not to take these comments too personally.

My posts are not directed to or intended for megabuy but for anyone who is not yet aware of their reputation. I copy and paste the same info because nothing changes.

From my understanding of OzBargains the idea is for Reps and fellow OzBarginers to comment and share Bargains online so others can also share in this deals.

Very true and part of sharing with the OzBargain community is sharing information. There are new members joining all the time and my posts in megabuy deals are intended to point them to feedback on the company. I believe this feedback is worth considering before spending $1.5K online at a site with a less than stellar reputation. (FWIW I haven't posted in either the WP thread or Product Review).

And.. To add to all of this I believe you have also been down voting a deals simply based off the fact that you have hate towards our company…

As both an employee and outsider looking at this situation I feel the way you use the voting system in particular is unfair and unjust as it provides customers inaccurate representation of the deal that is simply untrue and is based off hate.

Again, as you're an employee I can understand how it can be difficult reading so much negative feedback but assuming that my vote is "based off hate" is incorrect. I've highlighted my reasons many times in previous posts but perhaps you missed that in your late night digging. The purpose of my post and vote is to point anyone not yet aware to relevant information before making the decision to deal with this company or others run by the same group.

Coming here and calling me a troll might make you feel like you've had an internet win but I don't think it does much for your company's reputation.

Here's my thoughts if you're interested (and I won't be offended if you're not). Concentrating on high levels of customer service will result in a greater proportion of satisfied customers which will in turn give a higher likelihood of positive feedback.

        • +4

At what point would you consider not posting previous negative feedback then? Because it seems to me that no matter how many people have been satisfied (including several right here on this post) you've continued to complain about their service.

FWIW I'm also a satisfied megabuy customer.

        • @seanbsydney:

Not sure Sean. How much negative feedback would you consider acceptable for a company like this? Sure people are more likely to recount poor experiences than they are to take the time to share when nothing goes wrong but you've got to admit that the links above don't do much to encourage new customers.

If their customer service picked up then the links to WP and Product Review great advertising.

…you've continued to complain about their service.

Where? I'm linking to sites that I haven't posted on.

      • You realize you have grounds for defamation claim

      • +1

Now that we know awesome sauce and megabuy accounts are run by the same person I'm sure there are plenty of people here who would be interested to hear your motivation behind

        1. Commenting on your own deal with two accounts
        2. Misusing the comment voting system by upvoting your own comments from a different account (and possibly downvoting those comments you don't like from multiple accounts)
  • Is the CPU in this better than an i7-4700MQ?

    • +1

Here is a full breakdown of the two. Main difference is the 4700MQ is a quad core the 5500U is a dual.

      http://ark.intel.com/compare/85214,75117

      • +1

Just to add on to that, besides the performance/power usage difference, the 550U supports VT-d so if you want to pass PCIe devices straight through to a VM then that will make a difference. Not sure when that would come up in the day to day usage of a laptop but yeah, can't see much other difference in functionality between the two processors.

        • +2

I agree with your below comment. @jimbler, if you are looking for a workhorse the 4700MQ will win out however battery life will be low when it ramps up. On the other hand 5500U has decent performance with battery life to match. Really comes down to the end use :)

    • +2

It looks like the 4700MQ is a fair bit better in performance benchmarks being a quad core with hyperthreading as opposed to a dual core with hyperthreading, however the additional performance will come at the cost of battery life with the 5500U having a lower TDP and power consumption.

      Figures pulled from http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-5500U-vs-Intel-Core-i7…

If you're after something grunty for VM's/CAD/video editing and the like, I'd go with the 4700MQ personally.

EDIT: MegaBuy beat me to it

      EDIT 2: Spelling

I Wouldn't pay 1.5K hard earned money for a dual core laptop!
Sort of jobs you run on a dual core, You don't need 16gb ram. Waste of money.
    Nothing exciting

    • I can think of multiple uses for a laptop like this. Office work, general school work with some light gaming. Chrome in particular loves it's RAM and doesn't really hog CPU usage. So you can easily rack up 4-6GB in Chrome alone if you are a power user. I know myself I often find Chrome with all the extensions I run pull around 5GB.

      • Yes unfortunately that's right chrome eats 4gb of ram easy, specially when I have more than 100 pages open! but then I wouldn't pay 1.5k for this, I would pay it for something I can use more than chrome! And for school work, forget about it! $400 maximum.

        • I wouldn't going anywhere near a $400 laptop for school work. You'll be lucky if you get an i3 for 4GB of RAM and I know for myself simply isn't enough for my multitasking requirements and it would become frustrating quite quickly.
