Nothing to do with the deal, which looks good btw, I'm just here to complain about how shit Australia's internet infrastructure is compared to the rest of the world. We're a joke. We suck

I think we should constantly be reminded of how embarrassing we are on the global scale.

        • +5

Don't say that, there are a couple of places in the world with even more expensive and lower quality internet… Cuba and PNG for instance. I've heard that Madagascar is not good as well.

          @andyvolk:

Don;t blame me, I didn't flicking vote Libs. Labor was gonna do it right the first time until Turnbull the muppet went and cummed all over the NBN Co

        • -1

@andyvolk: It's unfair comparing Australia to the countries you mentioned. We're suppose to be a first-world economy.

          @leon: Hence the sarcasm

        • Was only the other night myself and 4 friends were trying to complete an online game that takes about an hour to finish. I don't think with the 4 games we played any of the games didn't need to be restarted because of internet dropouts..

          Total joke

    • I am just hoping when are they going to start selling the 1Gb speed like in USA.

  • +1

    Prices for other tiers please?

  • +2

OP, please update post with " $15 delivery fee applies for equipment."

    • +1

      Done. Thanks

  • +3

while its good deal, few of us have NBN yet even the ones around metro.

  • Decent price, do note that the lowest speed tier is not 21/1 and should be 12/1.

Could you fix the page OP?

    • Woops, website change didn't save previously. This is now updated to 12/1Mbps

  • I get FTTN in a month or so. How do I know which plan to get since my download/upload rate depends on my distance from the node?

    Thanks for your help :)

    • Like you say your FTTN speeds will depend on where you live and quality of copper; However when you sign up, the sales rep at the company you choose should be able to tell you the speeds available in your area. This info is displayed on the nbn connection portal ISP's use.

    • NBN's FTTN will be limited to 12Mbps for the first year or two, because going higher would destroy all the ADSL2 signals that are being transmitted in the same cable bundle as your FTTN.

NBN Co (or whatever their new name is) don't want the bad publicity of destroying everyone else's ADSL, because everyone else might still be in contract with a supplier who doesn't do NBN.

  • Are these guys an ISP or reselling someone else?

    • We are a Retail Service Provider (RSP) of nbn who connect directly to NBN POI's and also use AAPT for back haul in other areas we don't have direct NBN POI connections.

      • Okay thanks. Do you cover all Opticomm estates? Do you have fixed IP?

        • We do cover all OptiComm estates in Vic, Qld and NSW.

    • +2

Everyone is just a NBN Co reseller
Good to see some competition driving prices down. Ive got unlimited 100/2Mbps cable & phone for $90/mth. I'd happily pay $60 for 50/20 250gb

  • Good deal,

but I already have NBN, with telstra 100/40 Mbps 500gb for 80 bucks a month,

So not good enough to change

    • that is bloody cheap!
My cable bundle with telstra is 95 bucks a month for 500GB included speed boost.

      • Got the speed boost for free (20 dollar discount) when I signed up and data more than doubled when my contract expired, but price stayed the same.

    • How did you get this plan? Was it because they churned you out of an existing ADSL/Cable plan for the same price? I'm also currently paying $80 for Telstra Cable 500GB plan (30mbps). I'm expecting NBNCo to flick the swich on in my area any time now.

      • Signed up for 200gb plan @ 80 dollars 2 1/2 years ago - new house never been connected before - ordered with speed boost 20 dollars extra, plus other things thrown in…. Telstra stuffed everything up and after many complaints gave me a 20 dollar discount on my bill each month, which is still going today, and they have just increased data to 500gb for no reason.

DO NOT deal with this company, under any circumstances.
It's a couple of sociopathic cowboys & a small, short term, incompetent staff.
They will reset your expectations of how bad a telco can be.
They will refuse to disconnect or stop charging, they will outright lie in every communication.
Yes, I've taken it to the TIO.

    • what was your actual issue & what was the end result with thew TIO?

    • I am currently with Activ8 at an NBN estate.

My experience with them has been ok however I haven't tried to disconnect as yet.

So I will keep this in mind.

    • Hi Wantedtosoldid,

We're very sorry to hear about your experience with us, we pride ourselves on good customer service, affordable plans and we have many happy customers who love dealing with us.

As with all companies we will get cases like yourself where there is an issue but we will try our best to rectify the problem.

Without knowing your account details, I can't really comment on your situation.

    • +2

Pretty poor form to come on and bag a company out without giving any indication of why you're so pissed off…

At least say what happened so people can form an opinion.

      • Normally I'd agree but the list of poor behaviour isn't something I even want to go into, have been lied to by every level & don't want anyone else to get ambushed like that, but hey, thanks for running me down.
Their response above is all you'll get: the appearance of service & responsibility. From there it'll be random slow responses, inaccuracy & random phone calls from people uninformed about the problem & utterly uninterested in solving it.
They will continue to take money at every point, regardless of whether or not they provide services or have any reason to.
Most of what they do is automated to make sure the money comes in, not to communicate with any clarity or efficiency. When you do speak to a person, it gets far worse.
Also, I've been quietly here for years, rep has just jumped on to make empty statements so at least stick by the community in the face of uncertainty. We turn up to make it work.

        • +2

You've literally just done it again…

I'm sure you have some grievance with them, I'm not saying you're lying, but my point is, going on about how bad they are and how nobody should go near them without actually explaining yourself is bad form because it doesn't give them the opportunity to defend themselves.

        • @Deviner: I agree that WantedtosoIdid should give more detail if he is going to badmouth a company on their own advertisement so harshly.

However one key thing I noticed is the rep apologized and assured they stand for "good customer service, affordable plans and we have many happy customers who love dealing with us." and go on to say "cases like yourself where there is an issue but we will try our best to rectify the problem."

BUT at no point did the rep ask for further information or a private message to try assist, just a blanket statement about good customer service with no real offer of a solution I don't classify that as "trying our best".

As we see with all good reps on OzBargin they do their best to help the OzBargain community including things like direct feedback responses, solutions even further discounts or free shipping on deals that were added after they placed their order.

This rep seems to just be using OzBargain as an advertising space, is this even really a deal or is it a "deal" that's always available? there is clearly more to the story as Activ8me is only a re-seller and has no real control over the quality of internet however I don't get good indications from this rep that this company wouldn't be difficult to deal with should an issue arise. So its a good warning to provide.

        • @yacman: Hi yacman, Thanks for your feedback. We are new to OzBargain and still don't really know how to properly use the site and we weren't aware that you could private message users (we generally stick to Facebook), this OzBargain is a bit new for us).

We don't spend heaps of time on OzBargain so I have just figured out how to private message a user so I will contact Wantedtosoldid via private message to get more details.

As I mentioned we generally stick to Facebook and have a pretty good track record of rectifying issues brought to our attention via users on that medium.

You are also correct that we are using OzBargain as an advertising space as it is a great forum for offering a good deal to people we would not normally reach.
This deal is not always available and has only been on offer since Sep 13th. We have never offered this plan before to anyone, existing customers or new.

Every provider including Telstra is a re-seller of NBN as NBN are wholesaler to every telco in the country. As a re-seller of NBN we can control our bandwidth and network as all other telco's can.

Thanks again for your comments, we aim to get better with helping the OzBargain community resolve issues relating to our service or answering any questions they may have about the nbn in general. We're sorry that you get the feeling that we aren't a good company to deal with based on our OzBargain postings and hope to turn your opinion around.

          Cheers,
          Activ8me

  • I thought the new LNP NBN was 50/1 max speed.
And I thought it was gonna be rolled out in 2030??

  • +1

Unfortunately I am in a Opticomm only area and it is horrible. Speeds of 6-10 mbit down on a 100 mbit plan are kind of normal

    • Hi dosada,

Are you an Activ8me customer or with another provider?

      • I was with activ8me until a few weeks ago

        • Sorry to hear you didn't have good experience. Do you mind saying which estate you live in as we would like to check the network for issues in that area?

        • @Activ8me:

How is this a deal? Exetel on Opticomm fibre is $49/month for 500GB as their regular price, also at 12/1! Not to mention that Activ8me measuress uploads where Exetel don't. Don't get me wrong, Exetel isn't perfect, but this is not a bargain!

    • Because it's Exetel who are notorious for having shocking congestion during peak times.

      • +2

I've been on Exetel for 2-3 years now on a 25Mb/s Opticomm Fibre line. Consistently hit the max speed for my line, in both bandwidth tests and torrent downloads. Even during peak.

Yes, they have had some people reporting bandwidth issues, but if you look at the other posts in this deal (and Whirlpool) you'll see that applies to Active8me too.

If you believe you offer a higher level of service, could you please show some evidence with your network load stats? I'd love to see the graphs of your throughput during peak.

  • +2

I've been with Exetel for almost two years now, the service has been consistently good and the speeds are always ~50mbps speedtest (I'm on the 50/25 500GB plan $79.95).

Although when my contract was up for renewal the sales person told me they could match Exetels pricing, I gave them the details and the sales person said she would run it by her manager to approve. Long story short I called them back after a few days and the same person told me she had not contacted her manager but that he would be unlikely to match Exetel pricing :S. Ended up signing another contract because the set-up fees would have made it more or less the same $$$ after 12 months and Exetel is famous for bandwidth issues.

This is a good deal. Shame I've just signed the contract. Any wiggle room aye Activ8me rep?

    • Hi Ruskiromka,

Unfortunately this deal is for new customers only but if you give the sales team a call on 13 22 88 they might be able to switch you.
