Sorry mate, have to disagree. I got the Asus Memo Pad HD7 for the kids for $99 a while ago and they are one of the best tech bargains I have ever bought. Great screen, snappy performance, long battery life, loud speaker, tough as (kids keep dropping them, have survived everything!).
Please give examples of poor design quality?
I have the Asus transformer pad in the past with charging issue and restarting itself randomly when it was shutdown. I have the Nexus 7 2013 with flimsy internal as when I open the case the switch electrode was held by a very thin plastic that I unintentionally damaged while servicing it and this rendering the unit dead.
Really? Because I have one Memo Pad HD7 and I have a lot of problems with it. It goes from tablet cracking and rebooting several times when I try to turn on, to constant stops of launcher and apps. I don't even use it anymore.
But, I decided to give a second chance to Asus and bought a Asus zenfone 2, the one with 2GB RAM. Other bad experience for me. I don't think I'll buy another gadget from Asus.
I have two Memo Pad HD7's that I got for $39 each from the deal posted on OzBargain and both have been flawless, very snappy performance not once has there been a stutter/lag or reboot, would definitely recommend.
Although, the ME70 which OP has listed is different to the HD ME173 so not really comparing apples to apples, the ME70 has a better processor but misses the great IPS panel.
I paid 200 EUR at mine :(
If I could, I would have returned it at the time. it Only give me headaches

My zenfone 2 is great I have no problem.
Please add more details when posting big generalisations like that. Asus routers and ultra-books are one of the best on the market, saying from personal experience.
My ASUS MemoPad FHD 10.1" also has issues with the motherboard. It'll run fine on low load, but run anything graphics heavy for an extended period of time and it locks up (and plays static at full blast through the headphone port, instantly destroying your eardrums if you happen to be wearing earbuds). You'd have to force reboot it.
I now use the tablet only for reading now. Video playback is also not very good — it tends to crash when rendering MKV.
I can't fault the Memo Pad HD 7's either personally (hardware wise at least, OS updates might have been nice for a little longer).
Given they were for the kids to bash about on, and take a beating physically they are still going strong and I'm still happy with the value for money.
I had an Asus Note 8 or whatever it was called. Biggest POS ever. Sent it back for a refund.
All manufacturers have lemons once in a while, though. just keep your receipt.
Got the previous gen memo pad 7… havent had any issues with it…
yes… not the most refined housing… but $100 tablet (at that time, similar spec ones such as Galaxy Tab were selling $150-200)…
Bought a Asus ZenFone 2 , didn't tightarse it, 4gb +64gb and it's great :)
Am tempted on this
Out of stock
nothing around melbourne either
I got one ~March, and not too impressed with it. Battery life isn't great, and it's not too snappy.
Just had an update, so hopefully improved, but I'm about to offload mine (upgraded to tab S 10.5).
Nothing wrong with them, just a cheap and cheerful 7" I guess, and ok for the price.
Got mine today. Performance is alright but the screen is dismal (you get discolour at the edges when looking at it straight on) and mine has a stuck pixel (blue).
My tip to you all is to avoid Asus products other than those for PC due to poor design quality.
