Yeah, not that good of a lens for the price. I would highly recommend the newer 16-35mm f/4L IS instead. Much better image quality, sharper, image stabilisation, and cheaper. Can be picked up for around $1,200 Aus stock. The only reason to get the f/2.8 is if you really desperately need that extra stop for fast subjects in low light.
These comments are ridiculous, this is a great price for being brand new and Australian stock.
Personally I use the f4 IS version, but I used to own this, only changed for the IS. If you need solid build quality, weather sealing, and f2.8, this is the only option. The lenses other users are suggesting may be cheaper and better in some ways, but aren't as good in other ways.

but:
this lens aint that great, and for the price, you should look into the 15-30 tamron. Yes you cant use a std filter, but you gain VC.
not to mention teds has pretty much stripped everything worth buying from their ebay store, poor form
