  • Does evenbody have a comparison test done for this model? Best i can come up with is for the Ultra.

I got one from the previous sale. The build quality is not very good, very hollow plastic casing (as opposed to aluminium in the vast majority of SSDs) however it is very light.

Typically for SSDs, as long as the access time is extremely fast everything's fine. Which as far as I can see is the case, my 4 year old laptop absolutely flies now and boots in a flash.

Here's a Crystaldisk benchmark that I just ran on mine.

Do you know what controller is in it? My google-fu hasn't been so kind lately, and I keep finding reviews and reports on the "Ultra Plus" model, not this "SSD Plus" version.

I'm curious if it's a sandforce controller, or another brand.

        • In Hard Disk Sentinel my 240GB version says:
          Transcend TS6500 / Silicon Motion S2246 / MS223x

What does this mean? Is it a Transcend controller?

        • Sorry for slow reply, I am unable to find it in hwinfo under drive. I don't know where to find it

          @Fobsessive:

          http://www.siliconmotion.com/A3.2_Partnumber_Detail.php?sn=7

Looks like Silicon Motion is the controller, though there's two options with that prefix in their list. I don't know if these controllers are good though.

EDIT: My guess is the SM2246XT, due to the lower write speed/IOPS. The other one says it's for use in a hybrid drive, and has a RAM controller built in for some reason.

    I just need a similar deal on a 256GB :-(

Great deal for a 120GB though.

    • same

    • +2

Yeah. $59.50 for 256GB would be real good……

      • I was about to post the same thing lol

        Its a slow afternoon……

        • +4

          Its a slow afternoon……

          Won't be with that ssd

  • +12

Maybe hold off if these are the last batch from supplier. Just means the 240GB will be next to he discounted

I reckon we will see the 240GB in the $80 mark

    • +1

      I hope you're right EC

    • +1

I think it will be a while for the 240gig to hit that price. I bought one last week for $115 (@Umart) which already is quite cheap

    • +1

I would also like a 240GB in the $80 mark…wanted to upgrade another notebook. EC can u make this happen please?

    • Maybe hold off if these are the last batch from supplier.

Prices will most likely go up, AUD has been going downhill and when suppliers replenish stock, that's when prices get affected by exchange rates.

      • +1

With the newer generation ssd's announced and in production, the older ones will probably be cleared and phased out .

    • I think that you are right. We could realistically see the 240/250GB under $100 by the end of the year.

      • +1
        • End of the month deal. Wonder if it is the same for tech as it is for cars ie. trying to reach monthly sales targets.

      • Well I got the 240GB Plus for $53 with the eBay deal by essentially turning the $50 voucher into cash.

        • Did you sell it for cash or just use it to buy things that you needed? Hesitated at that deal as I didn't need anything from eBay at the time but worthwhile if you could use it.

        • @squeeb: I bought something I would've bought regardless. That way it's $50 off $106 rather than $50 off $156.

        • +1

          @Fobsessive:
That makes it a true bargain. Hopefully there will be more…..

  • wrt the sandisk SSDs what's the hierachy?

Didn't usually do this on every post but i felt i need to let people know what's behind the scenes as TA deserves merit for his effort on getting this deal posted.

This negotiation took the whole morning as i didn't want to do it but TA pushed me very hard and eventually got me to go $0.40 lower than our previous deal.

Props to TA in helping ozbargain push some extra deals out from me and keep ozbargain a great bargain site. As it will be much harder for TA to push us again, so anyone that miss out the previous deal, please act fast.

    cheers

Shopping Express is becoming the household brand here!
I'd love to see community-based deals here. More inclusive, involving of everyone.
We all get a voice, less polluting of deals with random "what about XYZ".
Like a free sponsorship, of sorts. Scratching each other's backs.
Create a thread with potential deals, we vote… top deals happen.

    • As it will be much harder for TA to push us again

I can picture TA reclining back in his chair and saying "challenge accepted" lol

  • I missed the other deals and was waiting for another great deal on this drive. Thanks guys. I bought one : )

  • Thanks TA! Don't actually need it but may put it a USB3 case for a really fast external drive - cheaper than a USB3 key…

  • ah dam..bit the bullet and bought the 240gb from MSY for $115 (+ free 32gb microsd)…

    • You will appreciate the extra space

  • arent we all 'sandisked out'? I have 2 x 240gb and 1 x 120gb I havent found a use for yet. One day.

    • +4

If any of them are from us, thank you for your support. Now to find a use - would a NUC deal pique your interest?

      • A WD Green or Red deal would.

        • +1 on a deal on RED!

      • i3 NUC under $299 delivered should work…..

      • SSHD?

      • At this rate we're gonna need one big NAS to stick them in ;)

      • Yes NUC!

    • Buy more laptops without SSDs, and put the SSDs in. Problem solved!

    • For some reason this is my impression of most OzBargainers, except that they also have a whole drawer full of unused Eneloops and cable ties.

  • Dam just bought the OZC Arc 120GB for 78$… How do they compare with this SSD?

I will buy this anyway for another laptop.

    • I think I generally avoid 120gb now since it seems they dont perform so well. I have an arc100 240 and it performs quite well above what I would expect for $100 odd.

      • I agree, I have targeted the 240-256GB SSDs for the extra room and performance, as for a laptop install the only regret I have with the M550 512GB is not going larger. I suspect I will have a similar issue with my BX100 240GB in the i3 NUC in the long run.

    • From what I understand the Arc series trades blows with the top tier drives performance wise, but they have poor power consumption figures. This makes them a little less good in a laptop when you're concerned about battery, but shouldn't make a difference in a desktop.

Versus the drive in this deal it should have significantly better performance but probably at the cost of using a bit more power (5W vs less than 1W).

  • Finally a decent coupon code

  • -3

Not neg-ing the deal, but these SSDs have had failures.

    • +2

      Every product has had failures…

  • Thanks TA.

Since joined the ozb, bought 128G 64G 2x32G micosd, 512G 250G 850 Evo, 2x240G San Plus, 4x8G Kingston RAM… running out of excuses to buy, or the mis gonna smack me

urgently need for setup a ozb A support group !!!

    • PS

any deals of Seagate HDD 4TB (internal) on ebay? got $50 coupon want to put 2more in NAS, but the prices are ridiculous. $20-40 more than in shops and only one year warranty.

  • +1

Just ordered. Ozbargain has made me spend more money again!

  • SOLD!

  • +1

just bought one for no apparent reason other than being cheap…
lets hope the 240gb don't hit rock bottom prices anytime soon lol

  • +1

    I shall not pay!!!
Ozbargain is killing my pocket slowly and softly with these deals!!!

  • good deal now just need to transfer my parents data off their hdd

  • Oh man….so hard to fight the urge to spend on this

  • +1

It's a great price, but I'd rather hold off for the 240GB models to get cheap, because they have nearly double the write speed compared to 120GB (350MB/s versus just 180MB/s)

  • excellent was waiting for a cheap 120 GB that isn't OCZ.

  • Just had to do it huh TA. DANGIT

  • Guys, overall though, these are much more reliable than the hard disk ones hey?

  • Grabbed one earlier

    Thanks TA and ShoppingExpress

    awesome as always.

  • Thanks TA, Can't wait to upgrade yet another laptop!

  • +1

    sold out

    • Doh, could've used 2 of these for my UnRaid cache pool

  • +4

TA, you may work your magic on the 240gb now please =)

    • And make it Crucial or Intel deal 😀

      • Are Crucial or Intel that much better though? Thought Sandisk is the leader in this field

  • would buy one if the 256GB is the bargain :(
