Yep, that's pretty much the platinum member price that gets offered after about 5 minutes (if you want it to come up again if you missed it; clear hoppyking related cookies)

Keep in mind HK are pretty bad at getting the final PayPal price correct, as they just estimate the AUD and they actually charge USD, it is usually a higher price in AUD by the end.

Still pretty good price with postage included (Though if I remember correctly; You'll need to order batteries separately if you want the free postage on the car)

Delivery is usually 3 days from AU warehouse for me in Brisbane..

just don't tell steve i'm still looking at RC cars please

    • Oh gees FE, you're making me out to be some kind of Oracle which I'm absolutely not but don't mind helping those who may need a bit of guidance with stuff I've learnt over the years. Usually useless stuff but 'stuff' nevertheless ;)

      • Hey Steve,
I need your help in making a decision. Currently i am looking into buying a WLTOYS L959 or A979. Also looking into the Trunigy (RTR 1/16 Mini Trooper) at HobbyKing and now this Basher (tempting after seeing a few pro videos)…
I am just buying it for backyard fun with my son and will not be taking it to track etc. Never owned a proper RC car before and have no clue… I read ur post on the previous bargain and did my research. Plenty of parts available cheap for all the vehicles mentioned above.
        What would you recommend?

        • +1

If it's truly 'backyard only' then I advise you to go for one of the smaller scale cars (1/16) but assuming you're in the 'burbs I can nearly guarantee you'll be wanting to break out of the backyard after the first 5 minutes and go to your local park to let it rip! Happens to the best of us, we just can't resist the temptation to go full throttle :) I'd definitely go for a 4WD over a 2WD car though as it's a better 'all-rounder' and can deliver just as much fun from flat paved areas as it can from dirty, muddy tracks.

The smaller cars are great and each to their own but I personally like the 1/10 scale for obvious reasons once you begin repairing and/or modifying them. The 1/10s are a comfortable size and should be tougher all over but of course a large scale also usually means they're faster & heavier which in turn means higher scale damage to the suspension & steering when crashed or rolled/cartwheeled. Even more of a concern are the potential injuries to yourself or bystanders if you lose control at full throttle. Another guys car hit me at full speed at close to 100kph and I had bruises up my shins for weeks & weeks. Not sure how old your son is but hitting a young child or dog/cat with one of these at full throttle could do some serious damage!

Maybe look into them and see if the ESC can be programmed and/or the controller trimmed so you can limit the top speed at first then slowly creep it up the more practice you get. The 'Castle' brand Brushless systems I used many years ago offered full USB programming allowing you to alter the accel & braking curves allowing custom configs for different vehicles and drivers. Good to understand that a stock brushless motor powered by a couple of LiPo packs without any trimming is close to uncontrollable and with the pull of the trigger you can easily balloon the tyres so much that they self-destruct and come flying off the rims!

All said though, RC'ing is an awesome hobby and I would've LOVED it if my parents bought me a decent RC car back in the day when all my other friends were getting them :( As long as these cheapies have all their parts available as spares and as long as you understand the potential danger of their high speeds and as long as you have the patience to keep practising how to control them then you've got nothing to lose at these prices :) You will need a BIG backyard or nearby park to get the most out of them though.

        • @SteveAndBelle: thanks alot for your input above. Its just that i have never had a rc car before and thus was thinking if i dont break into the hobby then it would be a waste of money sitting on the shelf and collecting dust. I just got my son a Huanqi brushed motor cheapo which isnt too fast or anything and for the very same reason (My son is about to turn 5 now) i was thinking to buy a cheap L959 with brushed motor to gain control and break into the hobby. Once i am up for it i might go into buying the more expensive stuff like this basher. However it is mouth watering when i see the 888 and 222 videos online. I do have a 300sqm backyard which should be aright and have many parks around the house.
Say if i can get a L959 for $50 just to break in, you reckon it would be a good toy to start with?

        • @Umar511986: Sounds like you've convinced yourself ;) If you can get one for $50 and all the parts are available for it then yeah I suppose it's a good beginner car… but I'd be much more inclined to get a slightly better grade car for a bit more as it will last longer overall. BTW, this 'Basher' definitely isn't 'expensive' once you get right into the hobby and realise how much the really, really good stuff costs ;) This looks like a great car but it's far from high-end. It would be a great starting point for a beginner hobbyist.

        • @Umar511986: $80 may be the minimum and that's the A959

          Oops - the L959 for for $54.20

        • +1

@cornbeef: Ha, I honestly cannot believe the main feature of the A959 is 'Anti-Vibration'. Reading the specs that means it actually has working suspension! Oh dear, even for $50 I'd steer clear of these or just buy an equivalent from K-Mart. Looks like the L959 isn't much better with its "Built-in rechargeable battery", ew!

Take note Umar511986, spend more and you wont regret it.

@SteveAndBelle: the not some kind of oracle speaks ;7)

        • @SteveAndBelle: Hi SteveAndBelle just wanted to report on the RC purchase i made. With your suggestion up in the posts and researching over last 2 days into RC's (kinda feel like no world without RC :P) i present to you the beast i ended up purchasing…

Kyosho XXL Scorpion 1/7 Nitro Powered
          http://www.kyosho.com/eng/products/rc/detail.html?product_id…

I spent a fair bit than i was looking to spend earlier. But when i look at this, i don't want to look at another RC :P

        • @Umar511986: Very nice car and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it but why Nitro? They're very noisy, smelly, can be difficult to start and that scale is pretty big, not the kind of thing for a backyard bash. Still, it'd be big fun to take to one of your nearby parks to rip around :)

        • +1

@SteveAndBelle: the biggest point which brought me to this decision was your point above of mentioning big scale rides and their sturdiness/capabilities. I looked into alot of vehicles but couldnt justify myself to be spending upwards of $200-$300 for hobby shop vehicles. Then i went into Tamiya, HPI and Kyosho. I have to say that the moment i saw his BEAST, i just didn't like anything else… I tried alot to resist to not spend that much but the more i looked at it the more i was towards buying it, then i looked info nitro engines being Kyosho's specialty… I weighted my usage and considered that i will be running my vehicle carefully without bashing and just for fun… So i had to get something unique and BIG… Nitro became my choice of rc due to no restriction of run time as long as you have the fuel and secondly the PRICE i got on this vehicle from a very reliable source brand spanking new was just AMAZING. Was a one off deal due to a misleading listing from a reputable company or else i would have posted on OZB… I won't disclose the price here as it might ruin the thrill i am seeking to run this vehicle :D

@SteveAndBelle: a big thank you for making me save my $55 on the shitbox i was looking into before :>

Jeezuz, the 'Basher' in the title offers a LOT of bang-for-buck. Man, I'm so tempted. Damn you 'Ownage Input' ;) $183.76 is an insane price for what looks to be a very decent 4WD, 2.4G, Brushless Buggy… and a nice big 1/8 scale too! I wonder what the parts situation is like on these bad boys?!

EDIT: Looked at HobbyKing and found hundreds of parts for that model of vehicle however not a lot for this particular chassis it seems. Maybe they can be used across chassis models? Not sure but definitely worth checking out before buying… even at that amazing price.
