30GB Free Microsoft OneDrive Storage Space - Integrated Directly into Windows 10

970

Microsoft OneDrive are giving 15GB free space for anyone who signs up, as well as now re-offering the bonus 15GB if you install the android/iPhone app and login (you can uninstall it directly after), and an extra 0.5 GB for using a referral link. It means that we can all have 30.5GB of online storage space ready for Windows 10!

Step 1: Sign up for OneDrive. This will give you 15gb (or 15.5GB if you use a referral link provided at random through Ozbargain's auto-system below).
Step 2: Using your mobile device, search your app store/itunes for "OneDrive" app. Install it on your device, and then log in using your OneDrive accounts. Turn Camera Roll "ON". It will start uploading some of your photos from your device. Don't let it do too many (unless you want this cloud-storage feature)… check your online onedrive account and it will have the extra 15GB added. You can now safely delete the app, or turn the camera roll off, or do whatever. The space is yours to keep forever :)

Happy cloud-based storing!

PS: I had provided a referral link, but 10 people have already signed up, so i'm maxed out and the benefit may as well go to someone else in this community!. Use one of the random (XXX) links below from Ozbargain's "referral" system. Hopefully it works for you!!

Is this something new? Thought it had been around for a while now.

    • This deal from November hasn't been marked as expired so it appears to be a standard offer.

      • Yep, from what I understand they made the mobile phone app only 5GB extra storage for a while… and now they are back to 15GB as a promotion.

And foobar, yep, you're right… but that deal is for 30GB… mine is for 30.5GB hehe :)

        • The other one has referrals mentioned and available:

          Referral Links: random (289)
Both referrer and referee will receive an extra 0.5GB of free storage (max 5GB).

        • @foobar:

          Ok ok, you win :)

However… (just for arguments sake hehe), referral links were only activated around the 24th of March this year… so at the time, that post only had 30GB, and the link you listed was added around 4 months later :)

        • @moza:

Oh ok, didn't realise they weren't immediately available and added sometime later, the system here must retroactively add that stuff to all relevant posts which tricked me. All good.

Though you might want to consider the privacy issues around W10 watching your habits if you sign up for a Microsoft/Hotmail/Live account.

    • Yeah that's the default settings, that they collect what you type. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-08-02/surveillance-state-… . Can be turned off though.

And you need to use a Microsoft account to get the free upgrade from Windows 7/8 to 10.

      • +2

You don't need a Microsoft account to upgrade to Windows 10 from previous versions of Windows.

        • I'm still waiting for the windows 10 update to push - I can't trigger it to push, tried various methods.

        • +2

@chillipaste: MS has a media creation program that works easily…. I did it on Friday.

        • Correct, I never signed for one when firing up the W8.1 laptop, but you need a Microsoft account to use the cloud storage, and once signed in, your habits are tied to that account.

        • +1

@chillipaste: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 this worked for me. tried it last friday, had windows 10 installed by saturday. FYI, unplug the sata cable from your dvd drive if you have one, just in case. thanks to that weird issue, i had to redo the whole installation process which took a few hours.

        • +1

@Junereth: did you save the setup to a USB/Flash Drive? Or picked the option which said Update this PC??? I am having troubles with the Media Creation Tool.

        • @dealkak:

Me too. I have tried installing it 5 times through various methods and nothing works

        • @dealkak: update this pc

    • No more than you should be concerned about Apple and Google watching your habits on Android/iOS/Chromebook/Chrome browser/OSX. Microsoft aren't doing anything that the others haven't been doing for years.

      • Correct, M$ is just late to the game. Google would also tie your searches to your email account if happened to be logged in at the time.

    • Greenpossum: totally agree with you.

This link has been useful in seeing the immediate steps to remove their eyes from Windows 10 as well:

    • I noticed I was signed into Bing the other day (the horrible page popped up when I was trying to google). I was not impressed.

      This was windows 8.1

Already got 240gb… hmm should I get more space…?

    • +7

      yes you should.

  • I think I'm sorted for a while, but I think I need moar XD http://imgur.com/g64j3of

    • The bing bonus is only for 1 year max, right? I had the same kind of deals with Dropbox and was pushing 200GB at one time… but am now back to 11.8GB. Man… time goes quick! :)

      • When I signed up for mine (back in Feb) it was for 2 years, unless they changed it recently, it should still be 2 years

    • How do you get the loyalty bonus?

      • +1

I have it too. I'm pretty sure it was from this deal.

      • +1

AAA is right, I got it from that deal, but I was notified via Microsoft instead

  • I am still trying to use the 1TB I have from University.

    • I thought I had that as well.. but it turns out the 1TB from the uni's Office 365 account is actually a shared space… so lots of people can access what you upload… kindof like a uni-based cloud server. Not all accounts are like this, but double-check that you aren't simply part of a communal shared space with others from your uni.

      • PRetty sure my One Drive is private.

It says "Welcome to your OneDrive for Business, the place to store, sync, and share your work. Documents are private until shared."

I know lots of people who use it and have hundreds of gigabytes of stuff on it.

  • i got 1TB….

    • +1

      I got 10TB ;)

      • +2

        I got IBM 100TB. :D
Me mate hooked me up. I have occupied 0.5% of it.

        • does your mate need another mate?

  • Referral didn't work for me but I got the 30gb no problems

  • downloaded the app, signed in, and found out i now have 115gb of storage :O

    • I also have heaps - 130GB. How is that possible? Any idea what we did to get so much?

      • +1

no idea. guess we got some kind of offer earlier and forgot about it :P true ozbargain style, stockpile the freebies and forget about it later

  • "Because you already have a OneDrive account, you can't get the extra storage for new customers."

Booo! But I do suddenly have 133GB. Ah well :D

  • i have been using dropbox over 4 or 5 years now. which is better ?! to onedrive?

  • I use both, but find Dropbox much better, however I only have 5Gb free for Dropbox, but I got 40Gb for onedrive (free). I found syncing files work smoother in Dropbox. So I used Dropbox for sharing and syncing commonly use files, onedrive mainly for backing up files to the cloud.

Thanks op. I have 30gb currently with onedrive. Followed the instructions to upload photos from my android tablet. But can't get any storage increase. Am I missing some steps? Thanks

  • Thanks, somehow I missed the original post. Thanks!!!!

  • Thanks, upped my storage to 30GB (from 15GB).

  • For those that don't want OneDrive with their Windows 10: https://github.com/tomchappelow/onedrive-uninstaller

    • Mine seems to get stuck on the "ping 127.0.0.1" line… any thoughts?

      Thanks for the link though!

      • It worked for me, maybe try running it as admin. The ping just adds a delay between commands. It might work without it but you'd have to run multiple times.

        • Running as admin worked. Thanks again!

All the usual caveats with cloud storage…Dont put anything commercially, financially, medically sensitive on there or anything you dont want anyone else to know about like you sex tapes.

MS along with most other internet companies shares data with the NSA and the 5 eyes countries (NZ, Australia, Canada and UK) so their governments will have warrantless access to your data any time they want.

    • Some services are secure than others and, from what I've read, you can definitely upload all the sensitive info and nude selfies you like if you choose the appropriate service ;).

    • Would also add anything copyright, even legit paid music, etc. is not wise.

(which pretty much just leaves selfies with your pet cats and photos of cups of chain-store coffee.)
