Thanks for pointing out. Softpedia is running both Bitdefender and Avast promotions from the same link.

      • Ah. Did not work coz I was on mobile. Worked when I switched to desktop version after seeing your edit.

Thanks op worked for me but you should mention in the title that this deal is not available for robots.

      • Thanks - My adblocker blocked that!

  • For those on mobiles, you have to change to "desktop view" for the banner to appear.

  • cannot install after upgrading to Windows 10

  • I still have a year left on my Bitdefender, wonder if it adds 9 months to my 12 months making me good for 21 months or takes away my year to give me only 9 months?? afraid to attempt it till I know.

    • Generally these free promotions don't stack.

      • But you can save them to your account for later ron.

    • i tried it ,,,,it resets it to 270 days

    • Have to use the code in 5 days of receiving it and NO they don't stack.

Do I need this if all I ever do is ozbargain?

  • good one! in time for my fresh install of Windows 10.

  • just activated the 6 months one… any way this can top it up for another 9 months?? or is it possible to get the key and activate it after 6 months?

    • Give it a try and let us know. Worst case, it will be rejected and you stay at 6 months or switched to 9 months.

The code didn't stack for me. I had 104 days left on my existing licence and when I input the new code it changed to 270 days (or 9 months).
Not a big deal, I'm still well ahead of what I had before.

  • which is better, this or avast?

    • At the moment it's between Bitdefender and Kaspersky for best AV, though Panda (which has a free version) is punching above it's weight and actually beating them on some results.

      AVG is not as good.

These sites do testing on the antivirus packages have a LOT more info. Nothing is perfect and there are people who criticize the testing strategies used but it's the best I know about.

    • I've tried Bitdefender, Avast, AVG and Avira. Avast is bloody awful, worst of the lot. I don't care to elaborate (it'll be a long rant), but Bitdefender all the way for me (best of the four)

  • Thanks OP. Much appreciated.

I was able to use this to extend the license of my existing bitdefender. Was on a 6 month license that had run down.

  • Is this for MAC as well?

    • Mac people say Mac's don't get viruses.

  • I'm thinking of going back to the free version. The full version is annoying.

    • Really? Usually it's the other way around.

  • Thank you! Just got mine!!!

  • Had 107 days but added this, now I have 270. Thanks!

  • Code didn't stack, but it still gives me the full 9 months, which is three times what I had.
    Thanks, OP.

  • Just in time for Windows 10, kaspersky is so crap these days!

  • Kaspersky doesn't work on W10 so I am going to change. Paid for Kaspersky, too.

  • Installing this on my Windows 10 caused my INternet to stop working, uninstalled it resolved the problem.

First a big thank you to neworder. None of the following is his fault and there's a chance I would have spent good money to work this out.

Summary: This product may block viruses but in every other way it is, in my opinion, a headache inducing pile of GARBAGE! Not recommended.

Unfortunately based on it's rating on av-comparatives and av-test I decided to try it on all 7 machines at home (so as to take advantage of the offer). So I have quite a bit of work to do to get it off the machines once I decide on an alternative but I'm thankful it was a free offer I used so at least I'm not out of pocket on top of the pain.

    1. My biggest gripe is that Bitdefender blocks pop3 mail downloading from pop-mail.outlook.com using the latest Thunderbird. Changing network settings on the firewall or even turning off the firewall altogether make no difference. I instantly get email download back if I uninstall Bitdefender and reboot, and I instantly lose the ability to download mail (it just hangs) on a reinstall of Bitdefender. I went through quite a bit to determine this as I was trying to turn off the firewall, but turning off the firewall did nothing. I can't believe this product doesn't even honour it's own off switches. Actually blocking my old Hotmail account, which I rarely check is something that I could work around if that was the only issue. The issue is I can't trust this thing isn't interfeering in any network problem I have. I almost contact my ISP over this, thinking it was a network misconfiguration as the host is unreachable. Fortunately I had the sense to do some diagnostics with traceroute, ping and other clients (an old windows XP box, and my android phone) so I didn't embarass myself. I can't emphasize enough that I have never before seen a mainstream product firewall that wouldn't honour it's own off switch.

    2. To install Bitdefender you have to remove "incompabile" software. In my case Spybot Search and Destroy. The thing is once you do install Bitdefender, it will happily let you install Spybot right after. And in practice it doesn't seem to add any new conflicts that I've seen. Nevertheless a reinstall of Bitdefender means uninstalling Spybot… Note that for 1 above I uninstalled both to get pop-mail.outlook.com mail download working, and only reinstalled Bitdefender to get it to stop working again. Bitdefender, on it's own is definitely the issue.

    3. Logging is very brief and log viewer is horrible to use clunky cartoon interface. I've found references to more verbose logging which they've ripped out sometime in the last couple of years. Apparently the log file still exists but can't be gotten to from the interface. But from what I've seen in the forums even that log file is less verbose than it use to be. (I'll have to check it out when I get home tonight).

    4. The interface is all over the place. Very un-intuitive. No quick help available, but you can refer to a PDF manual (that's likely out of date). Requires entry and selection of a file for exclusion rather than being able to use existing detections etc.

    5. Support option built into the interface has you type out your email, a description of the issue etc and then hangs trying to reproduce the issue or some such nonsense. There is no back button. If you cancel out you've lost all those details you typed in.

    6. Haven't had a confirmation email (to main email address which is not blocked) for their community forums. So if I log in, because the address isn't verified, not only can't I post but I haven't got permission to view the forums that a guest that hasn't logged in can see.

    7. Their online linked at http://www.bitdefender.com/support/consumer.html points to http://www.bitdefender.com/support/contact-us.html which rediects back to http://www.bitdefender.com/support/consumer.html after you fill out details of what product you have and what category of support you need. You don't actually get to send an email.

    8. Their online chat doesn't seem to work and redirected me after timing out to send an email. Who knows if there will be any reply.

    HORRIBLE!

    • Ok I don't like leaving misinformation so while it is embarassing I have to report it turns out number 1 (blocking hotmail) was due to a different piece of software I'd forgotten I'd installed.

The rest of the frustration stands.

  • Good to get your comment. So far I have no issues yet with bitdefender, especially with windows 10. I have another pc with kaspersky internet security as well but it's not fully functional with windows 10 yet until future updates.
