Hi all,

I've just finished reviewing the Tronsmart Draco H3 - An Android mini PC capable of 4K video output and HEVC decoding for under $40 USD.

It does have a few rough edges, software-wise, but its a decent unit for the price - particularly when discounted!

I've managed to get a coupon taking $6 USD off the normal price for Home Theatre Life readers so figured I'd share.

$45.38 AUD - I'll add the currency to the title to make it clear. I don't post in USD anymore to make it easier for everyone.

      $33.99 USD to be specific.

      Downvote a little harsh?

  • how does netflix go on this?

    • I haven't tested NetFlix but YouTube was fine but limited to 720p due to the UI lock so I'd suspect it will be the same.

You haven't finished your review if you didn't test netflix.

        • Will fire up Netflix and update the review.

    • Netflix on Android is 720p, stereo only. And the browsing user interface is designed for touchscreen, so not good.
There are lots of better ways to watch netflix - Apple TV, chromecast, bluray player, …

But I expect Kodi will run well on this.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you found it useful!

      • have you tried attaching an external SATA drive? if so, how's the dropouts?

        • I connected up a 2.5" USB HDD and was able to play videos off it.

Just to warn everyone, this device only plays HEVC/H265 in 8bit only.

A lot of hevc content these days is coming out in 10bit HEVC/h265 and this device won't be able to play it.

    Have a look here http://kodi.wiki/view/Android_hardware

    • Yep, I'm sourcing some 10-bit HEVC to add to my tests.

      • I mean there probably isn't a point in trying to test them.

I guess you could test some 480p content as it be able to play that on the CPU without lag.

        • I'm more mean with respect to reviews for other devices in the future.

  • My experience with a tronsmart device(tronsmart Ts 7): good hardware and generally unpolluted software except mine would keep installing apps without my permission. Would just notice one day an extra icon. Makes me suspicious of what else is going on in the background.

    • good hardware? HA!

got the tronsmart t428… been buggy from get go. works ok with custom firmare, but kept crashing, tried a few different power supplies etc… rough around the edges, but managed to do the job for what we needed it for.

      • I should have phrased it better: Good specs for the price.

  • Since this device doesn't come with a remote, does it support CEC? So that I can control it using my TV remote for basic functions?

    • I couldn't see any CEC options in config. I use an airmouse instead.

      • On that note, what Air Mouse do you recommend that has a inbuilt keyboard as well?

I'm a big fan of the Rikomagic MK705 which I've reviewed previously, or the MeLE F10 Deluxe.

    • I don't believe android supports CEC, that's why I got a RAPI… but that's a whole nother kettle of fish in regards to software support.

      • Sorry, I should have mentioned Kodi has CEC support but not sure about the Android version.

      • +1

Android TV has native support for HDMI-CEC and some Android boxes already have it like the ZIDOO X9 and the Tronsmart Pavo M9.

      • +1

Android itself can support CEC - just depends on the box itself. Devices like the Zidoo X9 feature it.
