Review: http://techtablets.com/cube-i7-stylus/review/

The thing that makes this tablet stand out from many of the other competitors is the fact that it supports wacom pen (i.e. pen that's used in Galaxy Note series, Surface Pro 1 and 2, etc). Also, as it uses Core M, it uses SSD, not eMMC, which would make it faster. So it's more like Surface Pro series with less processing power (in my opinion at least) rather than baytrail tablets.

CPU used on it is Intel 5th generation, Core M 5Y10.

It's Aliexpress, so they unfortunately don't take paypal. The seller rating is 2 diamond, has been around for 1 year and it's on the front page.

  • Just adding on, if you want a wacom pen, I think you can grab cheaper one from Aliexpress. The one I've linked is the one I've bought for my Surface Pro 1 (it works fine).

  • Pity the amount of ram is low for a new machine with an i7

    • +8

It's not i7 (I hate when the manufacturers do that, using weird names for their product), it's core M i5.

    • Not an i7 cpu. (Misleading i7 is in Model) Read the Deal for Dual-Core cpu info.

      • Thanks for reminding that my Samsung Note incl's a WaCom pen. I don't need to buy this. :-)

        • Actually, that should tempt you more, you don't even have to carry 2 styluses around, you can just carry one :)

        • @AznMitch: Good point. Still pretty low amount of RAM.

        • @drunifex: 4GB for tablet is alright imo (i.e. almost all baytrail tablets had 2GB RAM and eMMC based storage).

        • @AznMitch: Depends on if its intel or arm though. Arm tablets can get away with less ram because the software is less demanding.

        • @drunifex: Most of the baytrail tablets are Windows tablets (Baytrail is by Intel btw, it's Atom CPU). I think MS did put a lot of effort into optimisation, since I personally had no issues with RAM with my Surface Pro 1 (which also has 4GB RAM).

  • With WIndows 10 just around the corner, I wonder what kind of computers would come out from the Middle Kingdom?

    • +1

Probably not much since it's just OS? I'd probably wait for something like newer CPUs for something interesting.

This one will get Windows 10 apparently (according to the review, it has that Get Windows 10 icon on the system tray).

  • Don't forget to mention that the first 500 buyer get the stylus for free!

    • The deal has been on for 6 hrs already (and I think it started with 2500 units, I am not sure). I am not sure whether that's still available.

    • Free styluses can usually be purchased for under $1

      • Wacom compliant ones go up to $50 easily (though, I've linked one that's around $10 AUD). Free styluses that some retailers give out don't offer palm rejection and pressure sensitivity (I think that's the one that you are referring to).

  • What's the go with this? It seems like a really good deal?

I don't think there is any device like this available in Australia. I guess older Surface Pro (1 and 2) fits many of the criteria this fill, but this one is more of a tablet than Surface Pro series were (in terms of processing power/weight trade off). Core M means it's more of a tablet than a laptop in terms of processing power, but still better than baytrail tablets (especially with SSD and 4GB RAM). This one also has a proper keyboard dock as well. Wacom pen support is something that many people like, but there are only handful of devices that support wacom pen input (especially in tablet area, as Wacom has their own tablet line)

Con of buying this would be 1. Aliexpress, it would be hard to get customer support after purchase 2. Aliexpress, no paypal. 3. Aliexpress. Basically, when you buy a product from China, it can get really complex, especially with the devices that have lithium battery in them. So you are the one who's pulling the trigger. The device seems to be amazing, but it's slightly risky (even so than buying from Geekbuying, Gearbest etc etc). As I've listed, I don't think there is a high chance of this being a dodgy one (can still be), as the store has been around for a year and feedback score blah blah). That said, as with all things bought from China, there are risks.

  • Show of hands, who have bought this deal? Myself Included.

    • +1

Ironically, I haven't. My gf stopped me from my impulse buying. :(

      • If you're waiting for the SP4 it will most likely be double the price with an equivalent 14nm processor.

        • I thought it was Skylake based? Anyways, the reason why my gf have stopped me was, "you have a perfectly well functioning Surface Pro 1". To which, I could not refute. This would be lighter, but SP1 does the job well enough (other than the battery department, which I could bear with for now). At this price, I was so close to pulling the trigger (damn my girlfriend acting as a superego).

        • the reviews will tell you more

it uses a std. m2 ssd, be nice if you can replace it

also with win10 around the corner you may as well wait for a win10 device

the cpu is also 800mhz stock and 'up to 2,0ghz' so not quite as fast as the manufactuer says but then they do call it an 'i7' to confuse people so i guess chinese are gonna chinese

also $350 aud isnt a small amount to risk and this is a risk to me

        • @AznMitch:
haha my wife says the same… but i got a power cover (imported from the US for approx $115 including freight) for my SP1, adds 2.5 hours at least. bit more weight… but when you rock up next to all those ipad owners late in the arvo and pull out a fully pledged pc….

        • @tonyjzx: I definitely agree that there is a risk (like with all purchases done from abroad). That said, let me point out few things.

          1. Windows 10 is just an OS, I don't think there will be any new device that'd be better purely because of Windows 10 (though many manufacturers are releasing new devices for it, I don't think there would be something that's majorly different to what we currently have). Looking it from another way, I don't think there were many Windows 8 tablets that attracted people until Intel released Atom Bay Trail CPUs (though I guess this is due more to Intel subdising its Atom CPUs to manufacturers making them cheap as dirt). Though I have to admit, I was secluded from the society due to bloody conscription back then when Windows 8 first came out. Also, if you look at the review, you'd see that it's eligible for Windows 10 update anyways.

          2. Hardware wise, there are limited numbers of tablets that support Wacom pen, let alone Windows tablet. Other than Vivotab Note 8, every single one that I could think of were more expensive than this (ThinkPad series, Surface Pro 1 and 2, ATIV series, etc).

          3. CPU, it's Core M. It's more of a tablet CPU/fanless laptop CPU. I personally think it's going to be better than Atom CPUs out there, because it supports SSD and has 4GB RAM. If you look at the benchmark, you'd see it falling between laptop CPUs. You could look it up from notebookcheck.net as well. Compare it with Cherry Trail (i.e. Surface 3).

        • @Damonator84: I like my Surface Pro, I had a full sized laptop before so it's not that heavy compared to those. Most laptops I've owned had more or less worse battery life as well; I was almost secluded the technology for 2 years for conscription reasons and my last laptop before SP 1 wasn't exact a good one. Not to mention, MS is fairly good with service.

That said, I still use my ARM tablet as I can carry it around in one hand. It's functionality vs portability for me. I actually carry both of them around, SP 1 in my backpack while carrying TabPRO in my hand. If I need to do a proper work, I pull out my SP 1. If not, then my TabPRO does its job fairly well.

        • They incl "i7" in model name.

        • @AznMitch: I recently resurrected my Surface 2 RT as I discovered it had an awesome Wolfson DAC and decent headphone AMP in it. I purchased a spare power adapter for work and car charger from e-bay. Battery issues resolved (not that was bad to start with on the RT)…

        • @mostlygordon: Huh, didn't know that… Ahhh, that's right, they used Tegra 4, didn't they? That's the one that I don't know what DAC they've used.

I am using my TabPRO (which also has an Wolfson DAC in it), for something like that. Well, I could use my phone for it, I suppose, but I frankly found my phone to be worse than the tablet I own (possibly placebo, possibly due to DAC, possibly due to volume differences, in short, I don't know why).

Surface Pro series are not exactly road friendly. Also I tend to leave the laptops alone while on road, since you might need to use a laptop for emergency (i.e. change of travel plans etc).

        • @AznMitch: Well it's a big 192GB iPod now that drives Sennheiser HD 650s lol. Anyway the point is if GF makes you keep using the Surface 2, you can get cheap chargers, and at least you don't have to lug them around with you.

        • @mostlygordon: Nah, I own a Surface Pro 1, which is pretty much a laptop (Surface 2 is an ARM tablet, Surface Pro 1 is a laptop more than anything). I do pretty much what you've mentioned with another tablet I own.

          Thanks for the suggestion :)

        • @AznMitch: Thought they had the same power supply e.g:

          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Power-AC-Adapter-Supply-Charg…

Anyway I find it less hassle to lug them around, so just keep one at each location I use it, that way the Surface fits in a small tablet bag.

      • Wise gf… Has she a sister for other Impulse Buyers on OzB? ;-)

  • Pretty damn flash for the price. Nice find and nice post.

  • this is a ggood deal OP tempted

can this charge via usb or does it reqire higher voltage

    • It uses its own charging port (so doesn't use USB for charging), it seems.

      • thats a lose for me damnit
but maybe can find an adapter

  • I was going to post this, but i got slammed after my last aliexpress deal, however i think this is a top tablet, good reviews, and was intending on buying it, but my work gave me a pc…

  • What other low end tablets use this processor?

  • ok thanks Alex. I might wait a little while then. I want a windows tablet like this that uses at least the Core M but I don't need stylus.

  • Not bad at all. On par with the T100 price, but with up-to-date specs.

  • Looks like this deal is back on for 23hrs

    • It's at higher price though ($400 USD is like $500+ AUD for the base model)

  • Has anyone got theirs yet?
    How do you rate it?
