Hi Ozbargainers!

This is my first post on Ozbargain and I hope I can impress our bargain hunting community!

My name is Sofia, I’m an avid traveller – you will often find me interstate or overseas. One of the key issues I have faced with travel is the hefty international roaming charges and the availability of a destination sim card.

This is the key reason I have founded www.simcardsfortravel.com

About SimCardsForTravel.

We are passionate about service and value your time. Therefore all of our Sim Cards come with a Full Refund guarantee if our products do not meet the intended use or expectations. Just get in Contact with us through the "Contact" page and we will get back to as soon as possible.
We also provide all our customers with our competitive Price Beat policy. So if you find any of our exact Sim Cards:
⦁ advertised locally by another Australian legal business with an ABN (Australian Business Number)
⦁ at a lower price,
⦁ prior to purchase or less than 10 days after your purchase with us,
contact us immediately and we will happily beat or refund you the difference.

  • I'm flying in 7 days and have yet to receive my SIM cards. Reserving judgment for the moment, but given the comment from OP that the July-August activation date cards have already been sent, I am beginning to worry.

    • I have received the shipment notification email yesterday.
I would suggest to contact OP directly (via web site message/email) to confirm what's happening with your order.

  • For those interested - Landed in the states yesterday morning and inserted sim into phone - got an error saying data plan can't be used on this device when trying to use mobile data (iPhone).

Emailed support@ to ask about it and haven't had a response (original email sent at 9am yesterday) tried using the online contact form yesterday afternoon as I was getting desperate but still haven't had any contact.

The lack of response has been pretty frustrating…. Have since purchased alternative SIM cards as I needed the data.

Might be my fault in that you can't use these SIM cards on an iPhone , but I don't remember reading that anywhere.

    • @haydeng oh, that's painful :-(
But as for the mobile reception itself - is it working fine? Can you make and receive calls?

Hopefully it'll be sorted out soon for you mate.

      • Haven't actually had to use it for calls at this stage, but I'm sure it works just fine. Have just been swapping it in and out with another SIM in the hope that someone will have fixed the issue for me (no luck yet) Seems to have been always on 4G and good signal around San Fran, so see no reason why there would be any problems for calls/messages.

I assume you have checked and your phone settings are all correct for T-Mobile network.
      https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-2383

I don't use an iPhone but hope data works as it was half the reason for going with this plan.

      • From my experience, iPhone does this automatically when you put a new sim in. But I'm not sure if this is the case with all the cariers around the world? Nevertheless, no reply to support emails is worrying.

        haydang please keep us updated.

      • Settings didn't need to be changed - I ended up getting other T-Mobile SIM cards (the $60 ones) and they worked straight away in both phones.

I also had a reply from support on Saturday - not sure what the problem was though given both SIM cards didn't work, however they are finally working now. Asked the seller about their policies and a full refund was offered (and taken!)

        • Whatta hassle! I wish I didn't buy from this company. We get what we pay for.

By the way I'm still waiting for my sim cards. it's been seven days since I received postage notification. Tracking number doesn't produce any information.

If they can't manage to ship these cards properly how are we going to trust them to activate sims at the correct date? I suspect many (including me) will be on the same boat as you when we arrive in the US.

        • @Sharp:

FYI, I have received my sim card after ~ 2 days from the notification email (I live in Melbourne).

        • @nemoau:

I'm in Sydney but still doesn't look good for me.

        • @Sharp:

Fingers crossed - everything will be resolved eventually, good luck with that

        • @Sharp:

Hmm this isn't looking good. Still nothing received here.

Mine were supposedly shipped on July 28th but I was also given an invalid tracking number. When I queried this I was given some BS about problems scanning the number.

          Doesn't smell right.

Suggest everyone avoid this outfit in the future.

        • I would guess they hadn't activated them until you contacted them.

        • @gadgetguy: I haven't received it either. I'm sending an email to support. Hope they can track the post, if ever sent out.

        • @Sharp:

I emailed earlier today - no reply. Might have to do a chargeback.

        • Hi gadgetguy, we rely on Australia Post as our shipping provider. We can not predict when a parcel will go missing. The best we can do is offer to send them out again via Express post, to those few who have not received their Sim cards yet, including for yourself.

        • @simcardsfortravel:

Okay but why don't you provide proper working tracking? The number you gave me was not a valid tracking number and I am not the only one.

And what were the problems with haydeng's sim cards above? The last thing we want is to be trying to sort out issues with non-working sims from the US.

        • @gadgetguy: That you would need to inquire with Australia Post. If you get a proper answer please let us know. For some odd reason the only ones which we have found with an invalid tracking number are those going to NSW. So it is strange indeed.

        • @simcardsfortravel:

That's a strange thing to say - if you are truly purchasing postage with tracking YOU should be asking Auspost why it doesn't work. However if you email me a scan of the tracking receipt (rather than just emailing me a random number) I will happily follow up with them.

Also I am in Victoria not NSW.

Got off plane in us on the 5th, put phone sim in phone and didnt receive phone number sms to avtivate so its not working.

Emailed op but no reply 5 days later.

Doesn't seem like the best deal now.

    • This doesn't look promising at all.

What did you then? Bought a new sim? Did you ask help at a T Mobile store? Could they help?

      • I've been using free wifi while waitimg for a reply.

I did have a break through about an hour ago and got a text with phone number. I haven't had a vhanve to test if its working yet.

Just as a follow up to that question, when mine weren't working I went into a t mobile store. They couldn't find anything on their system at all for the SIM cards / phone numbers , so they were unable to help. Their only advice was to bin the cards and start again (obviously I didn't bin them) so don't expect to be able to go in store for help on this.

  • So has anyone had a positive experience using one of these SIMs yet?

    • Mine is working now.

      • How long did it take to get working?

        • 5 days.

Now it seems realiable and data is fast.

      • hadang also reported that his SIM's were finally working (4 or 5 days after landing and after he already bought replacements).

2 reports both with SIM's that didn't work on arrival but did work 4-5 days later after emailing the OP. Seems SimCardsForTravel's "database" for activation dates isn't working properly, maybe they are relying on you to email after you arrive and then they activate it,

Maybe there are others that have SIM's that worked from their arrival date but the users are too busy enjoying their holidays to report back to us at OzBargain.

        • +1

Agreed but I do not want to be in a position of arriving in the US and the SIM not working and spending up to 5 days to get it sorted out.

  • Got a non-valid tracking email on the 28th last momth. Asked for clarification on the 4th this month and so far, no response.

    • Sim card eventually arrived.

  • All good on arrival at SFO - SIMs activated and plan loaded as expected. Micro and Nano both fine.

Did email them a few days ago to make sure. Got a reply saying all good - and it was.

  • No delivery to myself. Been six weeks. No responses from contact/support e-mail either in spite of numerous requests.

    • I just got a PayPal refund after raising a dispute.

They did eventually reply to my emails but still didn't resolve or process a refund themselves after agreeing to several times.

      • Thanks… to be clear, you raised the dispute via PayPal? Will give this a go if I don't hear back in a couple days.

Always risk in deals like this, just a bummer when it turns out this way.

        • Yes on PayPal. They didn't respond so i got a refund uncontested

  • Has this company got any contact details rather than email that they hardly reply too?
    Thanks

    • Not that I am aware of. Did you get your refund from them?

      • I got the sims but want to change activation date, send a couple of emails a week ago without reply, but from what i have been reading people not getting them activated on arrival

  • I just went back on their website and did a mock purchuse of buying a uk sim, added to cart and selected paypal option and it said that the account is restricted. Anything to be worried about?
