Hi Ozbargainers!

This is my first post on Ozbargain and I hope I can impress our bargain hunting community!

My name is Sofia, I’m an avid traveller – you will often find me interstate or overseas. One of the key issues I have faced with travel is the hefty international roaming charges and the availability of a destination sim card.

This is the key reason I have founded www.simcardsfortravel.com

⦁ advertised locally by another Australian legal business with an ABN (Australian Business Number)
⦁ at a lower price,

  • Hi Sofia, just ordered with order number: #21054

Just wanted to confirm that I'm going in December since I only put dates in the special instructions but the US date order is reversed compared to Australia's. Thought I'd leave this message just in case!

    • +1

      hi ohhidayo,

Thanks for clarifying it, I will make a note to ensure it is activated and ready to go in December.

  • Rep.

Will this for for Latin America??? or do you have any options?

    Thanks

    • hi bennib0i, Unfortunately nothing at the moment for latin America Sorry

  • Hi, I'm travelling in october but don't know the exact dates yet for the activation date. Can I let you know closer to my travel date?
And just to clarify this is for 30 days so I can have unlimited calls/SMS to australia for the 30 days? thanks

    • hi matchbox, that should be fine, If you could email us the dates to [email protected] when you find out the exact dates, we will be able to update it for you.

Just to clarify it is Unlimited Landline calls to Australia and Unlimited SMS to Australian Mobiles for 30days

  • +2

This is excellent deal. I've been to USA recently, so here's some notes:
    - T-mobile is one of the best coverage providers
    - Be careful with your 4G bands on your phone. USA uses slightly different bands. My LG G3 AU model only had 2G in a lot of the inland non-capital-city areas.
    - The price is cheap. I paid like $90AUD+ for 5GB?
    - Not all telco's in USA allow prepaid, and not all allow using non-US residents to purchase. This seems like an easy way for an Aussie to get it.

  • Hi Rep. I'll be leaving Sydney on February 29, and travelling in USA from February 29 to March 24. Could you please clarify if my travel dates are okay, and how the activation will work? Thanks in advance.

    • hi nattie, So we activate the sim cards on the date you provide us with on our shop page. You do have the option of buying now even if you are travelling in Feb 2016. As mentioned above, any changes to plans and we will upgrade you or provide a full refund.

  • What happens if I receive nothing from T-Mobile and no reception when I arrived in the US? Who should I try to call with my non-existing reception? You (if you answer that time of the day/night) or T-Mobile?

    • +1

hi Sharp, This is why we recommend all our customers check the coverage map before purchasing a sim. In the extreme case we are not able to respond, you can directly go to a T-Mobile store.

  • Do you have any cheaper plan with 1GB data only?

    • yeah would like to know if a plan exits :)

    • +1

We have found most people want more than 2GB data, so to best suit, we are only offering the 3GB option at the moment

  • Hi Sofia
I just ordered 2 sim cards (invoice 21087)
I need x1 nano (iphone 5s) and x1 micro (samsung s4), there was no option to do this in one order can you please make sure that this request goes through. I just made a note and bought x2 micro in my order.

Also we arrive in USA from 6 August. However, would it be possible to activate from 5 Aug, so we receive the SMS when we arrive.

Thank you, this is a great deal!

    • +1

I ordered one nano, added it to cart, then clicked the"x" and was back at start screen, then ordered a micro, added to cart and checked out with two sims, $3 postage.

  • hi op,

great to see you have joined ozB and a good start with alot of people interested :)

I wanted to ask, what would happen after 30 days once you use it in USA. Is it easy to extend with t-mobile and if so, then will it be charged at the full 60USD as per website
    http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/individual.html

OR do i need to buy 2 sims from you and provided you the intended activation dates?

I guess what I would like is to get this sim and then after continue for another month at the same price if possible.
I'll be going for 60 days exactly months around the canada/states and want to keep the same number so I can provide this to friends/booking agents/or whoever when i'm over there

    • hi prankster, I am really happy we have received such positive feedback from the ozbargain community.

If you want to topup you can do it online, or instore at any T-Mobile store, but like you said it will be full USD price but you will be able to keep one number for your trip. Or you could get 2 sims and have different dates so 1 would activate after the 1st sim expires. But this would mean two different numbers.

      • is it possible to convert to this plan after 30 days? (this was the plan I used whilst in USA and it was great, albeit I could spend $20 more and get unlimited text/talk I guess)

        http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-plans
"$30 per month — Unlimited web and text on your smartphone with 100 minutes talk

100 minutes talk | Unlimited text | First 5GB at up to 4G speeds
Includes unlimited international texting from the U.S. to virtually anywhere included in your plan — at no extra charge."

        • +1

Following. Got exactly the same idea and trip to USA as your @prankster

  • +1

Hi Sofia, is there a pick up in Melbourne?

  • +1

Put in an order and got order confirmation and invoice in separate emails.

For reference it would be nice if at least one of these emails included the requested activation date to make sure there was no mistakes.

    • AnophthalmiaCervidae,Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately this is a limitation of our backend system. We will try to find a workaround to allow comments to show up on invoices.

  • +1

On the T-mobile coverage map what exactly does the grey "partner" coverage areas mean?

Can we still make unlimited calls in those areas?

    • +1

hi nuchalis, In the grey areas coverage is limited, and you will only have access to Unlimited local calls and Unlimited Local SMS and 30MB of data.

  • +1

Has anyone actually used this "company"? How do we know they are legit?

  • ordered, thanks, great deal!

would anyone who understands this 4g band business please be able to let me know how i'll get on with my htc one m7?

    thanks!

    • +2

      This may help:

      https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/83820413/mobile_phone_ba…

EDIT: Oops missed the "7" in M7.
      M7 4G-LTE: Bands 3,7,18
      M7 3G/HSPA: 850, 1900, 2100MHz

So looks like you'll get H+ which the Americans call 4G, but not 4G-LTE.

      • Thanks Coriander, really appreciate you looking into this for me. :) :) :)

      • Thanks, great pic, been looking for something like this for a while…

  • which T-mobile plan of this pre-paid plan is activated with?

  • I need this by Friday, do you have an option to pick up in Melbourne?

    • Sorry but no pick up available.

  • hi would to take advantage of this deal however, I'm travelling to the US in December..

    can this be arranged?

    • hi Archi, that is fine we will still send it out to you, should the plans change in the near future, we will either activate it with a higher plan, or provide you with a full refund.

  • Just ordered and got a tax inv showing a gst amount, would have thought that this is gst exempt as its used overseas,

    • hi rinbond, Thanks for letting us know. This seems to be a backend settings error, all purchases as you mentioned do not include gst. We have rectified this issue, should you require a revised invoice please email us at [email protected]

  • This is cheap. If you are worried that this sim doesn't work, a similar sim card is sold at melbourne airport for 60 aud from a booth near vue cafe. That one is an official T mobile sim and if you have an issues, you can get help from T mobile in the US

  • Hi do you have anything similar for canada?

    • +1

      hi Tm15,

      Nothing for Canada unfortunately.

  • Hi store rep I bought a SIM card with invoice no 21183

I didn't select the dates. Before you send it out could you put the activation date as 28th October 2015.

    Sorry for the hassle

    • hi chocis6, I have updated this information for you.

  • Thanks for the quick reply.

    Take care

  • +1

ordered, but how can I check and ensure the activation date is entered into your system successfully and correctly?

    • Hi bctransit,

Please e-mail your order number to [email protected] and we can double check this for you.

  • Hi Store Rep,

Just wanted to say thanks for bringing this to my attention! This seems like a great introductory deal and comes just in time for my trip to the USA which I have been in the process of book the last few days.

I have purchased two Sim Cards, looking forward to recieving correspondence via e-mail about the confirmation of the dates of activation etc.

Also, it would be good to get updates (I welcome e-mail updates) about changes to the plan, or if there is a special inclusion in the plan such as unlimited Spotify/Music playing that does not use the included data.

I will be sharing your site with all my traveling friends. However, I notice you don't have a SIM that covers Europe? That would be handy. (In my experience I had to purchase a number of different SIM cards around Europe though… they don't share networks as much as I thought).

    Thank you

    • Hi MelBourne,

      Thank you for your feedback.

We are still relatively knew and still working on how to provide the best service so your feedback is much appreciated and will be taken on board.

  • Hi thanks for great service. I have purchased a sim as I will be in Canada and USA in September. It will definitely work won't it? Will data work in Canada? Thanks again

  • Sorry if you have answered this already!

What happens to the sim after 30 days from date provided on checkout?

I will be in USA for 8 weeks. Can I prepay another month at $60USD?

    • i've talked about this above lol

      • Thanks prankster I hadn't refreshed in a couple hours. Pretty much the same scenario.

I missed out on this deal for leaving it too long anyways

Last time I was there I just bought a t-mobile sim from walmart ($30 for 5gb, 100minutes talk time) and used google voice / hangouts for calls and SMS. Was a winning combo.

  • If I buy now will I get the "First 200" deal? If not, I don't really understand the difference?

    • +1

At a wild guess, when SCFT run out of sim cards, the deal will be marked "EXPIRED".

      • Ah, I guess I read the post wrong, makes sense now, thanks :)

      • +2

Or they will realize that they have been OzBargained and there are 1000's orders for the 200 SIM cards and they start cancelling.

Deal has 867 clicks so far… if only a quarter of these actually bought one then all 200 would be well gone by now.

    • +2

The list price was $50 when the deal first posted and you had to use a code to reduce it. There were problems with the code so they changed the list price to $25. I guess when 200 are sold they will re-set the price to $50 (or it might just display as sold out). So the difference is that it is cheaper.

  • Just ordered. I have not booked my flights though so I may be leaving later on. Is there anyone I can contact to change the activation date?

    • Was it listing them as $50 once you got to your cart though? It is for me…

      • +1

        $25

    • Hi mrjames, you can private msg me or email or email us at [email protected] and we will be able to adjust for you.

  • Has this deal expired? Looking to order one.

    • I think so… I'm trying to purchase it right now and once in the shopping cart its back to $50..

  • Hi Ozbargainers, Unfortunately we have reached the 200 order mark. Please note the price has gone back to normal.

Thank you everyone for the support with the post and rest assured more deals are around the corner.

    • Seriously just had 2 in the cart at $25 next screen they are at $50. Which is $100. Can you honour this??

      • +1

Hi MickyH85, Unfortunately we had strict exact 200 limit on the system for the special. Keep an eye out though, we try to have more sales in the near future

        • +1

oh really that was freakin quick :(
can you let us know when you have the next sale please?

        • +1

yes also keen to know when the next sale will be, if it is indeed in the near future!

  • Oh no, simcardfortravel, I was just trying to message you as I couldn't figure out how to enter the coupon code! I really need two of these.

  • +2

Don't stress if you missed out. Phone/data sims are cheap over there especially from Walmart.

I usually buy this sim kit which is t-mobile but exclusively sold from Walmart.

It's $30, unlimited data and text, 100 minutes talk time. 5gb of data with 4g then shaped to 2g speeds. You can then use google hangouts to call so you get unlimited calls. This worked a charm a couple years ago and is the cheapest option :)

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/T-Mobile-Complete-SIM-Kit/39081494

    • Any hassles as an Aussie buying it, or using it in an Aussie phone?

      • +1

Nope no hassles. It's prepaid so you just walk in and give some personal details to register it and show ID. Just so you arent using it for crime etc.

Phones that are locked (or imei banned) to a telco in Australia are not locked overseas. For instance I locked AUS vodafone I used in USA and it worked without hassles.

        • Do you know if you can buy online (and posted to Australia)? As I like being organised/prepared for when I land?

  • +1

Only morning I don't check OZ bargain and I miss out on this! Arraghhhh! - this is exactly what I need to buy! - and I've missed the boat!

  • +2

Suggestion! On your website, make sure to note who the underlying carrier is, and what frequencies (and what bands) they use. Combined with the search tool on GSM arena, you could help people find the right sim for their device. Many Australian devices don't support T-Mobile's 1700mhz 3G band for example, and LTE can be hit and miss on many devices as well.

  • is it handy to buy sim card at new york airport? Does it take ages to line up / register? Anyone got any experience to share please?

  • Hi Sofia,

I am aware that I am a little late and have missed the introductory offer. I am travelling to the states in the next 2 months and would probably be looking to get 2-3 sim cards. Can you make an exception and offer a one off deal for me please?

    thanks.

    Tai

  • +1

Thanks everyone for your interest and feedback. I will take all the constructive feedback provided for future deals and the website. Yes, we are looking at having another deal soon so please keep an eye out.

Unfortunately, this deal has ended and we will look to put up another solid deal soon.

    Thanks again everyone.

    Kind Regards,
    Sofia

  • To be honest, I think this offer should've been extended! You guys would make a lot of money and for those who missed out (including myself) I would've bought a lot of sims for the introductory price. Maybe next time.

  • where's the other sim guys that post regularly, lets get them to come to the party with some SIM discounts

  • Just for info, the 2 SIMs I ordered last week arrived today (Adelaide). All looks in order - will see if they work when arrive in the US in a few weeks time.

    • @jimbosa - cool, that's good to know.

I have placed my order on the time of the original deal. Live in Melbourne. Haven't received anything yet… Have tried to send email to "support" email address and also left PM to the OP here, but no replies so far…

Not sure if I need to start worrying, delivery time between Mel-Ade and Mel-Mel apparently could be very different ;-)

      • Hi nemoau

Thank you for your comment, not sure if you have received a reply to your email yet (if not please private message me). As we had a large number of orders to process we prioritised the customers whose travel date was in July and August and these customers should have received or will be receiving their orders in the next couple days.

As for the customers whose travel dates commenced from September,October and November were sent their sim cards today, with the rest of the orders to be processed tomorrow.

There is no need to worry about your order - we will honour and ensure that each and every customer that purchased a sim card receives their order in time for their travel.

    • Hi jimbosa

We are glad to hear you received your sim card. please let us know your feedback and should you have any queries, whilst on your trip, please dont hesistate to contact us at [email protected]

  • +1

Just a warning with this company, my card arrived today, wrong activation date by a month rendering it useless as it will have run out when I arrive.
Also, now I noticed rep has changed story on whether it will work in Canada after I purchased - as half my trip ins in Canada if i had know this I would never have purchased. I went to call them and I realised there is no way to contact this company by phone to resolve problem, only email which is always a worry. Have asked for refund by email, will let you know how I go.

    • Hi thegrinch

      Thank you for your comment.

As per the response to your email - we have updated your activation date in our system, and your sim will be activated according to your travel date. We do apologise for the processing error.

Also we are sorry about the confusion in regards to the Canadian feature. To be honest, we are unsure whether the Canadian Feature will work – purely because the feature has just been added by T-Mobile. Also, T-Mobile have different features for different types of customers. So some features which are available to postpaid customers residing in USA are not available to prepaid month to month customers. We are still in the process on getting feedback as to weather the Canadian feature will work for prepaid customers. Until we have a definite answer - we will be advising that that feature does not work.

  • +1

Two of us purchased these cards on the same day. Colleague got theirs yesterday mine is yet to arrive. Email received on Monday evening advising the SIM had been sent Registered Post with a tracking number. Sim has not arrived this morning nor is the tracking number tracking anything ("no events currently found"). Lucky I'm not leaving until October.

    • +1

I have tried to contact OP via support email, PM here at OzBargain.
Finally was able to get an answer after filling-in "contact us" form on their website as follows:

Due to the high volume of sales, we have to ship according to travel dates and the type of postage you paid for. All orders are expected to be sent by mid week, so you should definitely receive your Sims by early next week

@sterio, will your colleague be travelling earlier then you?

    • Hi Sterio

As noted above, as we had a large number of orders to process we prioritised the customers whose travel dates were in July and August and these customers should have received or will be receiving their orders in the next couple days (as confirmed by your colleague receiving his order).

As for the customers (like yourself) whose travel dates commenced from September,October and November their sim cards were shipped today, with the rest of the orders to be processed tomorrow.

There is no need to worry about your order - we will honour and ensure that each and every customer that purchased a sim card receives their order in time for their travel.

  • Yes, August.

  • I received the shipment notification yesterday. Email has a FedEx tracking number!!! I chose normal delivery and paid $3 though.

Tracking number doesn't do anything though. All I get "This tracking number cannot be found, please check the number or contact the sender."

    Travelling in September.

    • Hi Sharp

Firstly, it appears there has been a system error and hence it had stated FedEx instead of Australia Post. We have used Australia Post Registered Service for all normal deliveries.

Australia Post registered mail- can take between 5-10 business days. Also, speaking with our local Australia Post staff, it appears that sometimes Australia post does not track in the items until they have been delivered - if the envelopes have been intitally dropped off in the post box, which appears to be a limitation of Australia Post :(

  • Would be good for OP to get us all updates in this thread about the shipments schedule…
My travel dates are tentative end of August, so I haven't received any emails as yet.

    • Hi Nemoau

As noted above - all orders will be processed and shipped by tommorrow. We have already dispatched the sim cards for customers who noted their travel dates as being in between July - November.

      • All good, got my shipment notification email (yesterday).
Hopefully it'll come through soon ;-)
