  • I sent an email asking if my order was within the first batch of 500 could I delay it and get one from the 2nd batch instead to get the gigabit lan. They responded back with:

    Thanks for your order .
For this case ,the product Tronsmart R68 is pre-sale ,it will be released in the end of this month .
We can help you cancel or frozen the order ,when the end of month arrives ,you can result to us which batch now ,then you can make the order.
If you have any problem ,free to let us know in time .

I didn't really understand it so I asked to please freeze the order until the next batch, then this morning I received the shipping email like everyone else, so I'm assuming it will be part of the first batch.

    • Exactly what I did and exactly the same jibberish I got back too. I immediately followed up with a "please freeze my order" email as it seemed to be a word they understood but it was all pointless, mine shipped later the same day.

If it takes them 2-3 days to respond to emails, makes no sense to offer to freeze the order if there's no hope of receiving and acting on that email before they ship.

Hardly the end of the world but it'd be nice if at least one thing went right.

      • Just got another reply:

        Hello sir ,

When we read the email ,the order was shipped out on 24th July ,the
        tracking number is .
Please at ease ,when you receive the package ,you can confirm it whether it
is the first batch ,if yes ,you can contact to our after-sale customer and
        return the package .
Hope you can wait for it and get it soon .

    • I gave them my order number and asked if I was in the first 500 and got this gem:

      "Hello sir ,

      Thanks for your order .
The product Tronsmart R68 is pre-sale ,it will be launched in the end of this month ,you can note our promotion page .
Hope you can wait for it .
Anyway we will try our best to help you ."

They could try and help by comprehending and/or answering my question, but there best couldn't quite meet that lofty standard.

      • I was actually contemplating asking my Chinese coworker to write a response in Chinese for me. I think that getting him to translate to English it would make a lot more sense. However as it was sent out later that day I don't think it really matters.

  • mine was supposedly in the first batch also, so i guess i can expect a shipping confirmation any time soon, hope mine gets delayed for some reason and i get GB lan, also hope this plays HD Netflix so i can replace my BluRay player

  • When i spoke to customer support 4 days ago i was told mine not in the first batch of 500 orders will be shipped only 1st August but on 24th I got a message my order has been shipped. I looked at current status it has cleared customs most likely it will be delivered tomorrow.

    • funny, i was told mine was in the first batch and it still has'nt shipped

  • Mine arrived today (shipped via TNT) and is sitting here on my desk.
Box says Ethernet 10/100M/1000M LAN (optional)
Won't know for sure til i get home tonight and play around with it.

    • Just got mine too! Picked up Friday 7.30pm in Shenzen, China. Here in Port Macquarie at 12.00pm Monday. Great work TNT. Unpacking this afternoon. It also says Gigabit.

  • Just arrived at my front door via TNT.
Lets see what this can do

  • Just got mine too !! TNT was quick with their shipment..On the Box it says says Ethernet 10/100M/1000M LAN (optional) hope it is gigabit…

Just tried Netflix didn't work..Will have to try updating the software to see it works

    • Just tried Netflix didn't work

at all? no Netflix would be a bit of a killer as that was one of the main reasons i bought it :)

    • Yeah, tried Netflix too. Sits at "loading" screen when a video is selected. Have updated to new version of Netflix too.

    • Not good to hear about Netflix.

    • That doesn't sound good. I'm still waiting to hear back from someone trying to cancel my order 6 or so days ago….

  • Speed test maxed itself out at a lovely 98Mbps, but that would be my NBN connection, so I have no doubt it's going to be 10/100.

    • Want to test Netflix and determine if it's a common issue with it not working?

      • I'm going to need a Netflix account for that. According to Freaktab it's not working, but I'm sure an update will be released to fix it.

  • Has anyone with Singapore Post tracking number received the parcel yet?

"Information Received (This is not an acknowledgment of the physical receipt of the stated Registered Article)" doesn't sound assuring. :-(

    • It's a bug in their tracking system that they don't seem too keen on fixing. What it actually means is that your package is physically with Singapore Post and in transit.

      • Thx for that. I am just sitting on the tip of my chair for a delivery notice. lol although deep down, I can feel it's not going to be today.

        • It will probably take 3~ weeks with Singapore Post.

        • @Clear: Nooooooooooo~~ shouldn't have save on the postage.

        • +1

@begopa2003: looks like geekbuying lodged the number online last week but only submitted the item today

        • +1

          @bluepanther:

The status of mine has changed overnight from the same as above (this is not an acknowledgement etc) to "Received from Customer" but what's interesting is that there's also been a change when viewing the tracking number on the Auspost website too.

Previously to the above change, the Auspost tracker would just tell me under service that it was an "International Package" with "No events currently found" but today it says "Product not trackable" which makes me wonder if the parcel has landed in AU.

Both tracking sites are very light on details but I don't see why the Auspost tracker would change unless they had something with a corresponding number. If I alter the number slightly, I once again get the "International Package" status with "Product not trackable" so they definitely know something about my SG package it would seem.

        • @foobar: wow good work guys. I'm in exactly same status. Keep me informed plz.

        • Status changed:

          Jul 31, 2015 12:31 pm
Despatched to overseas (Country code: AU), Despatched to Overseas Postal Admin (From SG/SIN to AU/MEL)

… so much for my above theory.

  • I have tried updating Netflix & also removed and installed again still videos are in loading status..Whole idea of having one device has failed terribly..Netflix was installed part of factory firmware not sure why they haven't tested even basic function bit frustrating, hopefully Tronsmart will fix it soon…

  • Order Date: 7/14/2015
    Order Status: Payment Confirmed (Processing)

    :<

    • Same :(

    • That probably means you're going to get the Gigabit version ;)

      • i like it :)

    • Same here

  • Ehh… got an email stating it is presale and will be launched on 31st… fair enough.
But I thought I'd at least get the gigabit version if I wasn't in the first 500 like has been stated here?

    The CSR replied today stating:

"About the item ,please see the following information , we also have labelled it on our item page ,you can confirm that

    Wifi Connectivity
    IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/mimo, 802.11ac WiFi compliant; 4.900 GHz ~ 5.845 GHz (5.0 GHz ISM Band) AP6335

    Ethernet 10/100M LAN
    Bluetooth BT 4.0"

    Is that correct?

  • Has / can anyone please test the ac speed, presuming that spec is correct.

  • Netflix is not going to work. As it does not even work on Minix. These tv android boxes has to be approved my Netflix first, in order work.

    http://www.minixforum.com/threads/neflix-not-running-smooth-…

    just go with Kodi/Genesis

    • Perhaps changing the device to a supported one in the build.prop may fix it? Does work for apps that are not "supported" in Google Play.

      • Hey Clear can you take a look at my comment above?

CSR said I'll be getting a 10/100 version whereas you had mentioned that was only for the first 500 and the batches after that would be gigabit.

I'd semi-suspect that the CSR is just quoting whatever is off the website though, but I'm worried nonetheless! :o

        • As far as I'm aware it's the only first 500 that will get 10/100 and GB after that. If yours hasn't shipped yet then I would say you're getting the batch that arrives on the 1st.

        • @Clear:

Cheers for getting back to me.

Yeah, the lady said it'll ship on the 31st so I'm hoping that's the gigabit one.

        • @Deviner: I think it will be as a lot of have already received ours.

      • Can anyone confirm if this workaround works?

  • @Clear What does Ethernet 10/100M/1000M LAN (optional) mean? Is it a gigabyte version?

I mean, what does optional mean?

    • I think it means it's optional which model geek buying send you.

    • +1

Tronsmart way of not having to print 4 different boxes I suppose. Only way you're going to know for certain is if yours has already shipped or testing.

  • @clear I am really disappointed. I was one of the original orders for this and it still has not shipped (was showing as in stock). I also paid extra for freight to speed up the delivery.

The customer service is pathetic. I may try learning another language as English certainly doesn't work. When I asked for a simple refund on the freight component, I received a reply 2 days later asking if I wanted to cancel the order! No, I want the article that was in stock delivered to me in a timely manner. Not once was I told that there were delivery delays.

@clear if you are associated with Geek Buying then please do me (and everyone else) a favour and correspond with this company in a language in which they understand, and explain that as customers we expect more.

    • It's very likely that your order was inbetween the time it took them to stop the promotion and mark the product as presale. That would mean you're getting the gigabit LAN version if it has not shipped yet.

If you message me your order number I can get them to refund the postage, but that would mean you would be changed to free shipping. The next batch is due to ship out on 1st of Aug, so it'll arrive fairly quickly with your express postage.

      • Can you confirm that please? The website is now saying that the next batch is due to ship on August 18th.

        • -1

First batch was sent out last week, second batch from Aug 1 and third batch from Aug 18.

        • @Clear: Can you please get an update. Their customer service is woeful and as you can see from the comments below, people are now requesting refunds. My order was expected out three weeks ago

        • @benmuller: There were 800 orders at time of it being ended. First 500 have already been sent out. 2nd batch of 230pcs is 5th of August and 3rd batch will be the 18th and 1000pcs.

        • @Clear: Is my order going to be shipped with the 2nd batch? You are not making it clear either

        • @benmuller: No idea. I'm not a Geekbuying employee so I honestly don't know. I have said everything I've been told.

        • -1

@Clear: How about you get an exact answer for me? The lack of support from Geek Buying is ridiculous. Comments will also be left on any deal posted by yourself (or the company) warning people of shifty practices by the company, the lack of support, and extended lead times of roughly a month.

        • +1

@benmuller: Your order is not one of the first 500 as they have already been sent out. Your order might be one of the next 230pcs shipped out on the 5th otherwise it will be one of the 1000pcs on the 18th.

That is ALL I know and that is ALL I can find out. Would you prefer me to lie and pull answers from my ass?

      • Order number 3400006. I would have thought it would be shipping tomorrow, but received the below email moments ago. They know my order date, why can't they specify when it will ship?

        "Thanks for your email
We will get a batch of R68 in next week ,but we can not promise that your parcel will be shipped because we ship the parcel by the rank of order date ,hope you can understand

We are sorry to inform you that the item you ordered " R68 " is still for pre-sell, hope you can notice our item page ,we have edited the available time
please do not worry. Once it's available, we will ship it to you as soon as possible.
        We apologize for the inconvenience.
        Cordially,
        Carrie"

        • They've probably received so many emails that they have a generic reply going out. Based on your order number, yours should be in the 2nd batch shipping from Sat.

        • @Clear:
Good to know if that's the case. My order is about 100 less than that

        • @Clear: Any chance you can find out more about my order? I was expecting this order to ship at the very latest today. The other issue issue, is that I paid for expedited shipping, but note that my order shows standard shipping (but with an additional charge in my order.

As stated numerous times, there has been little or no communication from the company. On top of this, it was confirmed that my order would ship today.

        • @benmuller: As far as I'm aware orders will be shipped from the 18th and everything should be sent out before next weekend.

Well, after a couple of days playing with this unit, I have to say (unfortunately), I am not impressed. Apart from Netflix not working, videos are jerky in playback. Have tried Kodi, MX player and VLC. Hardware acceleration on and off. All the videos tried play fine on Chromecast and via Airplay on ATV. Was hoping to be able to replace my Mac Mini with this unit. Going to put it in the drawer until hopefully a firmware update fixes said problems.

    • Ethernet or wifi?

      • Tried both. Also via SDcard and USB drive :(

    • Not good news at all :(

Are you playing 25/50, 30/60 or 24Hz source files? Is the output and subsequently the TV matching the framerate of what's being played?

Edit: Hmm not sure if the info in this post is still correct, sounds like it might be

      http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=202878

No automatic frame rate switching. If you watch content with a mix of frame rates (in Europe we watch 24p movies, 25p or 50i DVD, TV etc. and in some cases some 60i Blu-ray/DVD content) and want XBMC to output this at the best frame rate for viewing, it will need to switch between 24Hz, 50Hz and 60Hz refresh rates on-the-fly. (i.e. if you watch a 50Hz DVD it will switch to 50Hz output, if you watch a 24p movie it will switch either to 24Hz output - or 60Hz if your display doesn't support 24Hz input). Unfortunately Android doesn't let Apps control the display refresh rate, it is a system-wide setting (and some Android boxes won't allow you to switch from 60Hz - which makes 25/50Hz stuff quite nasty to watch). This means either you have to manually alter the refresh rate in Android settings depending on what you want to watch, or put up with a fixed refresh rate, which may not be ideal. If you are in North America or another 60Hz territory (aka "NTSC-land") and don't watch 25/50Hz content this may not be an issue for you, particularly if you don't have a 24p compatible TV. If you are in Europe and care about picture quality - this is a big issue.

But then further on it's mentioned that this might be fixed in 5.0 and later, still reading…

    • Thanks for the heads-up, samcro.

To others who have received their units, is anyone else experiencing these sorts of issues? Thanks.

    • Doesn't sound too promising.

    • +2

Update: I tried it on my other TV (A Soniq 32") and it played fine! My main TV is a Hisense 55". Am suspecting it's some sort of refresh rate mismatching problem. Will need to play some more…

  • I just received mine, and have the same Netflix problem. Can I install Hulu Plus and Vudu on this? I can't find them in the Android app store. Kodi installed ok, which is what I wanted this for.

    • Vudu is available here and Hulu Plus is only on the US playstore, so you can sideload it with the APK here. I haven't tested either of them, so you won't know until you try it.

    • Netflix is not going to work and there will be no quick fix soon either. The best this box is for Kodi use.

  • Guys do you have root on them ?

  • +4

    I have the Meta version.
    So far, it is great.
Plays mkv, avi, mp4 on Kodi without fault.
Using ethernet to access home network.
Netflix not working but its not the end of the world
Great little unit at a budget price (50% off)

  • Has anyone tried to install windows 10 yet?

    • Windows 10 does work on the RK3288, but it was only an experimental demo. Probably won't be on the RK3368 or at least not for a long time.

      • I see, ok.

  • +1

Just received an email saying mine won't be shipped until the 18th of August, definitely my last order with geekbuying.

    • +1

Got the same email, back to pre-order till the 18th.

      • If it gets pushed back again I will be canceling my order.

    • haven't received any email - what order number was yours ?

  • Would the SBS on demand app work on this ?

    • +1

Should do. ABC Iview works fine…

  • No netflix?! Wtf.. seriously?

Anyone have plex running at least?

    • +2

Plex is working on mine, as is Kodi.

Streaming apps like ABC and SBS are OK. They stutter and buffer all the time, so they're not actually any worse than on my PC, thanks to the tin-cans-and-string that's laughingly referred to as "broadband".

Hulu and other services - not an option for me. Probably need thicker string or bigger tin cans first.

Also loaded a couple of 16-bit console emulators for Sonicy goodness. Loving that. Must try and wrangle some MAME on there next.

      • Streaming is very smooth on mine, but I've got that lovely FTTP NBN though ;)

        • FTTP NBN

Hmmph. Nothing wrong with disintegrating copper and overloaded exchanges. Good enough for the 1950s, good enough for the next 50 years.

        • @NoPantsToday: Yup. It's called VDSL.

    • How about NBA game time app?

Anyone able to test this for me?

    • Netflix only allows approved devices apparently. Tronsmart and the dev community will probably release an update to fix that.

  • +3

Mine is still in transit and hasn't reached Australia yet apparently, and all I can say is I wish I hadn't ordered it. It had so much promise but doesn't sound like it meets expectations.

    • +1

      Me too.. what a sham

    • If you selected free shipping then it's going to take 3-4 weeks for it to reach you. The current issues with it so far are with the firmware and not the hardware. OTA updates will likely fix it and Freaktab will release custom ROMs too that are always better than stock ROMs ;)

    • +1

So far the only issues I've read about here are that the unit doesn't support Netflix (yet), and OzBargain member samcro has a possible timing issue with one of his TVs. All the other feedback seems very favourable. Have I missing something? Thanks.

  • just read on freaktab the 2nd batch has been delayed until 18th of august

    • Also read this and am considering cancelling my order. Will wait a few more days first and for member Clear to confirm this?

      • +1

Good luck with that. I have tried three times to cancel. Waiting four days per response doesn't help with communication to initiate a cancel of order. NEVER AGAIN will I make this same mistake with this company.

        • That's something to look forward to then.

Yeah will avoid these guys from now on
