I use CrashPlan. It's free, and you can backup to another PC locally over the LAN or remotely across the internet too. You can also install the software on your laptop and it'll backup to your desktop.
Thanks eug. very interesting option. I will give it a try.
got 4x disks today Sydney
put them in a netgear 104 nas seems to be working as it should
My 5Tb just arrived.
Got the delivery notice last Thursday but I wasn't home to sign for it so will try again this week
my drive arrived, packed in a large box with no padding, but its here and working OK.
EDIT: Fixed the problem. Must have been because I wanted to keep the cables in the packing and use my existing WD cable. When I used the official cable it worked properly again :).

My drive arrived.
Except it writes at 20 megabytes per second
and reads at 30 megabytes per second
obviously something is wrong. Will try again tomorrow.
My two drives finally arrived in store today (ordered 20 days ago). No email or SMS - I rang them a week ago and they said it will be a few more days and they'll ring. Heard nothing all week so rang this afternoon and they said the drives were there waiting for me. Two drives floating around in a big cardboard box with no padding, so I hope they run OK.
Copying files to the first one as I type (only getting 15-20MB/sec but that's probably the cheap USB3 PCI-E card I have in my 6 year old PC - will try a native USB3 port on a laptop later).
3c per GB = win. Thanks OP.
Not that I'd open them (because that would void my warranty), but hypothetically, any tricks to getting the drive out of the enclosure without ruining the enclosure?

utoobs is your friend. plenty of instruction vids on there
it comes apart surprisingly easily.
Indeed. No screws. A butter knife or metal ruler is better than using a screwdriver to pry it apart as a screwdriver will scratch and bend the casing.
What is the model of the actual drive inside the case?
Are these SMART enabled? e.g.

Thanks, looks like this SMR archive type drive is SMART enabled:

Or this one from acronis that sits in the tray and alerts you of issues.

Finally got it last week after several attempted deliveries. Just wondering is this okay to hook up to my set top box to store tv shows and movies?
If anyone if Brisbane is kind enough and ordered too many, I'm looking for just one hard drive to replace a failed HDD on my NAS!
Thanks in advance!
I use Free File Synch to backup my TV shows and movies because it's simple to do incremental back-ups. Great free software.
